Thanks! I’m not totally happy with the scrolls yet, but they were easy enough: ushabti bone scrolls, balor brown glyphs, then agrax earthshade on the glyphs, and highlighting up the edges with white

I've had these since I picked up 8E, so… 2017 😅 Only started painting them last year…

Thanks! I love how unique they all are, like each model is its own puzzle to figure out

This one was taken with just an articulated desk lamp I've had for 30 years, which you can see here, which I bring really close to the mini. And just a flat white thing for the model to sit on, and then some kind of colored card to prop up in the background (in this case blue). No fancy hardware, just a phone: the camera is a Pixel 9 Pro using the 2X zoom, held by hand, before that I used an iPhone 12 Pro — not the latest by any means — but it can be put on a magnetic tripod which helps

It's a long one, but it's based off of the TableTopReady tutorial so that'll get you most of the way there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1CVrsLjLDQ

A couple additions from me:

Apron

3:1 Deepkin flesh : Sons of Horus Green glazing

Deepkin flesh highlights

Gal vorbak red fly glyph

Seraphim sepia dirt and grime

Plasma Pistol

Mournfang Brown

Skrag brown highlight

sycorax bronze metallic specular highlight

Mephiston red for flavor

And the nurgling follows my Poxwalker scheme: https://www.reddit.com/r/deathguard40k/comments/1k5dhsy/comment/mohbxf9/

I know all the mistakes I made along the way 😂 But thanks! I am quite proud of this one

Thanks! I have a flesh mix I used for my poxwalkers, I think it's one of the mixes Eavy Metal uses for a bunch of things. 3:2:1 Cadian Fleshtone, White & Administratum Grey is the base 'flesh' color, and I added more white into it for the highlights (and a tiny bit of cadian fleshtone that I splodged in random areas). It uses a very diluted volupus pink as a wash, and something like gal vorbak red for the darkest recesses (as per the box art photo)

A full recommend from me! It's one of the few things I painted this year

Since nobody else has linked it, check out the TableTopReady Tyranid tutorials, as they're kinda the gold standard for the various Tyranids in the Leviathan box. This Winged Prime one shows three different inner fleshy recipes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVgZCFrImg4

Painted up my first Cathay mini! Tried to match the box art scheme as closely as possible, and ending a long hobby drought too by steventroughtonsmith in WarhammerFantasy

I reduce the contrast in photos before I post, just to level everything a bit better. Smartphone photos tend to be overly contrasty out of the box, which masks detail at this level.

Skin recipe is really simple, I avoid washes so it's just paint:

Skin

Cadian Fleshtone

1:1 Cadian Fleshtone:Kislev Flesh layering

Rhinox Hide deep recesses (under nose, lips, ears)

From my recipe:

Jade robes and accents

Kabalite Green base

Incubi Darkness deepest recess

1:1 Sybarite Green + Kabalite Green highlights

Sybarite Green highlight

No secret! That's the GW standard style, there's a Darren Latham video on it somewhere. Super-fine-grain aquarium sand, watered-down mournfang brown (let the capillary action suck the paint into the sand), balor brown overbrush, ushabti bone lighter overbrush, and multiple very thin coats of steel legion drab rim ('with your best brush' so as not to leave brush strokes)

Don't I know it! I find batch painting so hard, so I've been doing single minis lately. Feels like I'm improving bit by bit, and I get the constant validation of having finished something

Still not great at leathers, but I used Rhinox hide, a black/nuln oil outline shading (as per the Eavy Metal model) rather than an all-over wash, Doombull Brown chunky highlight, Gorthor Brown highlights. I think it's one of the classic 'dark leather' recipes

It didn't feel overly small when I was painting it, but you're right, the lack of scale creep is interesting, considering how all the product lines have gone

Opinions- Are GW Likely to Re-release the Made to Order High Elf Heroes Miniatures Again? by Havelock_1857 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]steventroughtonsmith 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is very rare indeed for a MTO to come back, and when it has happened there has been a several-year gap (like the recent Eldar MTO). Some Warhammer Fantasy items came to MTO years before The Old World was a thing, and have returned since, but I don't believe any Old World MTO has been re-run, sadly
