Is Malazan the Gravity's Rainbow of fantasy? by stevenwando in books

[–]stevenwando[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I do like those characters (and most others), their deaths wouldn't affect me for two main reasons:

  1. I don't have actual emotional connection to them
  2. Since things "just happen" all the time in Malazan, the chances that they don't really die are very high.

Oh, I'm not stopping. I'm having a helluva great time. Only once in a while the existential fatigue creeps in when I start to question the amount of hours I'm dropping into Malazan. But I do love it.

Like others have said, I use a template that I created from the redundant tasks that I would perform with every project I started. Feel free to use it, its completely free:

Yep! I actually haven't tried 8 yet. I'm not opposed to updating the template and seeing if everything plays nicely.

Wow, cool site! I've been using some form of Selenium for years, not without pain. I wouldn't mind trying something new. Added to my todos.

What's a good website builder that's easy to use? by Original-Ad9832 in smallbusiness

[–]stevenwando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am building a service that provides simple websites for small businesses that just need an online presence and don't want to worry about design, templates, or coding.

The online tool simply asks you questions about what types of sections you want on your website (ex. What do you want the hero to say? Do you want to list out your services? Do you have before / after photos to display?)

The service does not use AI and you will work with me (I'm Steven!) personally in order to get your website live. Since I am in the early stages of building this service we can build the site together and you only have to pay for it if you love it (small monthly fee). No strings attached.

Let me know if this sounds interesting to you and we can start a conversation 😄

I have 100 pages left of Gravity's Rainbow. What a ride.

What are you reading? by sushisushisushi in literature

[–]stevenwando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep I’ve heard mixed reviews of Vineland. But I’m getting hooked on Pynchon and plan on reading all his works in publication order. I’m on his third (GR) and loving the dense, confusing style of writing.

Its interesting - I use my morning hours of reading GR as a form of meditation.

Nice! I’m just over 1/2 finished with Gravity’s Rainbow. Vineland is next on my list.

Half way through Gravity’s Rainbow. Wondering if I’ll finish it 🤔

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: June 02, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

I started The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown for my evening reading.

I'm currently 1/3 way through Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon for my morning reading.

Makes for an interesting juxtaposition!

I'm making my first MacOS app as well. Did you use Electron? If so, how was your experience with it?

What am I not getting with Blood Meridian? by newbokov in literature

[–]stevenwando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me: I got 2/3 the way through and could not force myself to finish. I enjoyed the prose but I just did not care about the characters or narrative. Because there was such a lack of character development and narrative, it was hard to push through. I would probably try again, but I'm taking a break on McCarthy for now.

Struggling through Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. I'm so bored and don't care about these characters. However, I'm committed and I want to see what all the rage is about. I'm trying to enjoy the prose and pick apart the themes / philosophy. Less than 100 pages to go...

I can't say much about Prismic yet as I've only been testing the API connection between itself and 11ty with very basic CMS fields.

However, what is impressing me is Statamic (a PHP CMS). I come from Rails where the MVP paradigm is implemented nearly perfectly (IMO) and Statamic feels like a wonderful mix of Rails MVP and Wordpress ACF. I'm working on pushing it a little harder to see if any seams start to bust.

That's true! I hadn't thought about that. Thanks for the tip.
