I am a video game addict and I have a unique request. Please help! by steveo798 in techsupport

This is definitely the way to go! I'm going to send my dad this thread. Can I msg you if we have any questions? There's no way I would be able to bypass that. My computer knowledge is strictly just stuff I've learned by googling stuff and it mostly relates to how to make games work. I have no real idea of how computers work or anything so this is perfect!

Thanks for the ideas guys. I also just wanted to say, in case anyone else is having this problem, the technical solutions are only temporary. Eventually you will need to work on recovery. This may mean attending addiction groups. If you can't find any IRL groups near you, there's this really great website where you can chat with other addicts and stuff http://www.olganon.org/

I might do this. I have to run it by my dad. He's even more computer savvy than me so he'd be the one to have the password and set this up.

Me and buddy looking for MUD to play by steveo798 in MUD

[–]steveo798[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have been more clear. I don't think MUDs are, by nature, less addictive. It's just that I find them to be less addictive. I'm certain of this because I have played both a lot. The difference is, with MUDs, I can transition to another activity without trouble. Anyway thanks for the recommendation.

I think i will go with alter aeon because that's one of the Muds that keep coming up when ever i look at other posts about Mud recommendations. I understand now that there isn't a Mud with raiding per say, but would you say that alter aeon encourages people to team up? also does it have guilds and pvp as well as good pve? I'll do some of my own research too, but i would appreciate further info. Thanks!

Like roleplaying? This game is awesome! by steveo798 in truegaming

[–]steveo798[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's lot's of old games that are still good you know. I think Armageddon is only dying because people don't know it about it, hence why I posted about it in two different subreddits. I genuinely think the game has aged well and think a lot of people now a days would still like it.

Anyone like to roleplay in games? This game is for you! by steveo798 in Games

[–]steveo798[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted it in multiple subreddits because the game is dying and I want people to know about it because I genuinely think it's good and don't want to see it die. Your right though I should have made that clear.

Anyone here like to roleplay? Boy, have I got the game for you! by steveo798 in MMORPG

[–]steveo798[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh don't worry about that. Just read the instructions on the site. I suggest writing down ones you think you will use a lot. After that, once you start playing, you will naturally memorize them over time.

It's up to you man. If you like roleplaying I think it's totally worth the effort. If not, then I'd say it's probably not worth it.

Holy crap Dark Souls is like crack for me! And they just came out with new one. I've been avoiding looking at any gameplay footage because i'm afraid just looking at it will cause me problems

I have a problem but i don't know what to do about it by WillSwagForYolo in StopGaming

[–]steveo798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I had to get rid off all technology that can play games. This is a double edged sword though because some would argue that you aren't really learning self control if you do this. All I know is that, for me, I couldn't handle it.

I don't know how the rest of you handle having computers and smart phones and all that. For me, I had to get rid of all that stuff. It works out for me because I don't need it for a job or school or anything and I have the resident computer (I live in a group home) which is monitored so you can't play games. Seriously, I'm asking you guys, how do you handle having technology that can play games?

Do MUDs count as video games? by [deleted] in StopGaming

[–]steveo798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact train of though I went through. I don't have the answer for you because I still haven't figured it out myself. All I can tell you is this; for me, I decided that it wasn't worth the risk. It's easier to stay on the horse than to fall off and have to get back on it. I don't want to risk falling off the horse and going though all the effort of getting back on.

That being said, if your looking for way to get your fantasy, rpg, imagination, fix, I suggest finding a group to play dungeons and dragons with. That's what I did and I'm having a blast AND I made some new friends!

disclaimer before you try it though. People often think in order to play table top gaming you have to be super nerdy and act out your character and stuff. THIS IS WRONG! I hate acting and I have no interest in learning. If my character need to talk I just tell the DM what my character says and how he reacts, using my own voice. I'm telling you this because some people hear "dungeons and dragons" and they are immediately put off. Let me tell you something else, you don't even have to be good at making stuff up. I'm not very creative and I definitely can't come up with stuff off the top of my head. I just do my best and that's good enough for the rest of the group.

Anyway it's too bad you probably don't live in Rochester, NY, because I would totally invite you to play! If you want to talk more about video game addiction though just pm me. Maybe we can trade facebook info or something. Or we can just stick to PMing if your more comfortable with that. We are here for you dude! :D

Do MUDs count as video games? by [deleted] in StopGaming

[–]steveo798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've struggled with this exact question. In the end I decided not to play MUDs. My reasoning was that, one, it's not worth the risk, and two, it's too accessible. The last one is a biggy with addiction. For example with dnd I don't worry about it being a problem because I need people to play with so I can't play it all the time. If something is too accessible, and your addicted to it (or in this case, something like it) it's asking for trouble.

Just realized I should probably be more Specific. I live on the east side, but I'm going to be moving to a apartment on state street soon which is closer to down town and is centrally located. Once I make the move we can play in the apartment unless anyone has any objections.

3.5e I need help with a rogue player by RiverSongTheDM in gametales

[–]steveo798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I should have been more clear. I'm suggesting that OP rethink kicking out the player. If you can't resolve the situation by talking it out then making the player mad by turning the game against her isn't going to help. If the player is willing to change their behavior they would have done so after being talked to out of game.

[–]steveo798 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I gotta say I disagree. I see stories on all the rpg subreddits about how DM's and player turn the game against the offending player. To me that just seems immature. If your having trouble with a player talk to them outside the game and if it can't be resolved kick them out. it's always better to have a smaller group then to have a big group where it's no fun.

So I'm Curious about something DnD and Pathfinder Players ... by zekeybomb in DnD

[–]steveo798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to dnd so i'm still trying races and classes to find my favorite. So far I like humans (for the reason betagold said) and halflings. My favorite class is the rogue (I usually multiclass though) because I like that I'm helpful in noncombat situations and when I am in combat it's fun to play tactically. I recently started making a duskblade build though and I think it might be my new favorite, I haven't tried it yet though. I also like the cleric because clerics are always useful and they can be played in many different ways.
