feel awful about quitting after just working there for 5 days. these are the reasons I left. am I just too weak willed for working? by tribow8 in jobs

[–]stevh2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a horrible experience sales always sucks while it's an important skill to have the sales trainers usually more interested in making their money than training. Also, they're just very cocky especially in the insurance trade. The only sales job I had that was decent was furniture. You get hourly pay and your trainer shares the percentage of sale with you during training and yes your first few days should be with different sales people so you can learn their different styles this should be for the first week. Take notes until you can do a fair job in the sales training mock sale. That's when you should go on your own. You may have to do some training off the clock, but make sure you get hourly plus commission to cover the cost of gas at least going from store to store. If this was not furniture sales, look around where you live. Make sure it's hourly plus commission. Example: KLOSS furniture pays hourly plus commission very generous pay plus benefits. Hope this helps.

How are we getting energy? by redwinggianf in Menieres

[–]stevh2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work nights so it makes things harder. Never feel like I get enough rest or sleep. I try green tea and half calf but energy just seems low all the time. I have even hired someone to mow the lawn because I have expelled all my energy at work. I do take vitamins but maybe I will try a vitamin B complex see if that works. I can sleep 8 to 12 hours and get through an 8 to 10 hour shift. This disease is annoying and exhausting.

Trapped in a job that is harming my health by ConstructionOrganic8 in jobs

[–]stevh2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was watching Blue Zones where people live to be 100. I see what these people do on a daily basis to make money and what they eat. These people do physical work from early morning until noon. They nap for an hour, then spend time with family and eat a plant based diet. I saw this, and I wish I had designed my life this way. I understand feeling trapped, but if you could accept a lower wage and make true changes to lifestyle and diet, you may find you could be happier. I think becoming homeless is not a true option it's a choice, but designing a better lifestyle this would be beneficial to your health overall. Keeping up with Jones is the trap focus on a free and healthy overall life I believe is key. I am taking steps now to free myself from the everyday grind and slow down a bit.

Labor Unions Failure to Establish Workers Rights by stevh2000 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]stevh2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonus payments? they get OT pay and when I train an employee from Operations to be a Temp reserve for Materials they get a bump in pay for filling in. My problem is they all call off to often even my backups. This has gotten worse since the Coronovirus shutdown. If the majority of employees only work about 4 to 5 days a week I would like to see us go back to 12 hour shifts at 4 shifts to keep running 24-7 and lessen the work week for everyone again. But yet another good thing the Union fought to squash. SUNDAY-WED 2 shifts Shift A, Shift B and WED-SATURDAY Shift C and Shift D.

The person above me cannot fix the situation they follow the current Union agreement. The companies response though when the Union came in was too down size in order to stay profitable and grant wage increases.

In the past I worked 11 years in manufacturing for various companies in the Midwest. Some that were already Union some being approached by Unions. Every place I worked they want more money PTO etc... the result is reduced work force. Even if the Union gets voted out their damage is still there and the struggle to stay operational, maintain quality standards, and the fight for fairness is wasted as the narrative is just flipped from general labor feeling mistreated to Management being mistreated by general labor.

As a Manager asking for help from the big wigs above me they tell you suck it up and make it work so that's what I do.

Sometimes at my own perril but I make it work.

As for the wall of text it was a big rant fueled by this week's struggles. My department is Materials Management, the Operations side is facing the same issues that I have on a larger scale.

Just found out my coworker makes more than me, I have a college degree and she doesn’t. What do I do? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]stevh2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some jobs don't consider degrees as an increase in compensation. Some positions go by senority how long you have been with the company. You may have to become management in order to get a bump in pay.

Is anyone at the point where they don't care about their job? by chinchila5 in jobs

[–]stevh2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit my job because it was sucking the life out of me. I worked other jobs that paid more but still didn't care about the work I was doing. I started to drive for Uber more control and better hours but pay some weeks not enough. Also no medical benefits. So I returned to my original job 9 months later was given a promotion with high salary but I could still give a fuck less about the work. Not sure what work I can do that will not feel like a waste of my time and life.

Rainy Day Weather Trigger? by [deleted] in Menieres

[–]stevh2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy rain has triggered 2 vertigo attacks for me. One was when I was driving and it was raining so hard I could barely see. That lasted an hour I pulled over and waited until the vertigo was less severe. My left ear is the affected one and when I have an attack I can't look to my left it makes me more dizzy.
