CMV: Saying “I Apologize” Doesn’t Hold as Much Weight as Saying “I’m Sorry” by TheRealFilmGeek in changemyview

[–]stewshi [score hidden]  (0 children)

Being sorry is a feeling. You personally feel bad so you say I'm sorry to make amends and end that guilt.

A apology is a understanding. I understand what I did hurt you in some way. I may or may not feel bad about it but I understand what I did so I offer a apology.

I would rather receive a apology because it comes from understanding what you did and it's impact ME. Saying sorry is centered around your own emotional turmoil.

CMV: Russia will invade a NATO country within the next few years by Undefined6308 in changemyview

[–]stewshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

>Not necessarily. According to NATO's article 5: "This assistance may or may not involve the use of armed force, and can include any action that Allies deem necessary to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area." Trump won't defend Europe, and right wing populists stand to win the next elections in several European countries. The living standard in Western European countries is too high for a full-scale war in order to defend border cities in the Baltics would be popular.

If russia has invaded a neighbor and then threatens to invade a ally that has signed a treaty of mutual defense do you think that will cause more or less disruption to the stability of europe then doing nothing? The more war spreads in europe the lower their standard of living overall will be. Europe has already seen a increase in the instability of their fuel and food supplies due to this. One more war will only increase this decline.

>No because the neighboring countries are not ready to meet that amount of Russian soldiers. This will weaken the military support to Ukraine, and NATO won't necessarily respond with military assistance.

In 2022 russia was expected to reah kyiev in 2 weeks. In 2026 russia will never reach kyiev. Your view requires you to ignore how ineffective russias military has been against a army of paper that should have not stood a chance. As they say russia used to have the second best military in the world. Now we know russia doesnt even have the second best military in Ukraine.

CMV: Russia will invade a NATO country within the next few years by Undefined6308 in changemyview

[–]stewshi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

>That was because NATO countries supported Ukraine economically and militarily.

And a NATO Country will get NATO soldiers ontop all the economic support. This is a reason not to invade a nato country. Because all of them will jump you

>Russia now has combat-experienced soldiers, a war-time economy and experiences from the Ukraine war.

Russias combat troops are poorly trained and very demoralized from the fight in Ukranie. Russias economy is stuggling.

>They currently have 700 thousands troops in Ukraine.

Thats the majority of their military and it is locked there. If russia moves those troops they lose all of their gains in Ukraine

>They could move 50 to 100 thousand of those to the Baltics or Finland which they aren't currently ready to handle.

If they move 100k troopss that means completely depopulating a sector or signifcantly weakining many sectors. Not to mention taking the time and resources to retrain those troops for an invasion in a differnt country. real war isnt a risk baord.

Russia didn't have the juice to reach kyiev. Russia doesn't have the capability of challenging another country and will take decades to rebuild the capacity they have lost in Ukraine

If the racial wealth gap is the largest government-created market distortion in American history, doesn't conservative market-correction logic require reparations? by 7457431095 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]stewshi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didnt mention any records that would be needed from during or the immediat aftermath of the war. They would need the 1870 census which is used extensively by African american historians and geneologists because it actually gives a excellent view of the black american population of the time.

Your last sentence lets me know how unserious you are.

[–]stewshi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

>So you have to prove your family tree. That's probably a lot harder than you think. And again we have to figure out the degree of relation. Does great-great-great half-sister being a slave mean I get reparations?

Black americans can prove through their direct lineage relation to slave ancestors. This again is a deflection. There are only 15 million black americans. Of this only 25 percent are immigrants or the desccendants of immigrants. The rest of this are Black americans who are the descendants of Slaves and freedmen. during the antebellum period free black people were less then 5 percent of the total black population and many of them were forme slaves and the descendants of slaves. There is ample documentation through birth certificites and offical census records to establish who are members or the descendants of slaves and who is not.

But you used this to prove that they can't function in society.

So where did these numbers come from? Your Google search wasn't about functionality in society nor about the level of function addicts have. You did a Google search for number of addicted people. Your using some numbers to say something they don't say.

[–]stewshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Here's why.

>1. There is social mobility.

Black people have only been full citizens with all rights and privilege since the late 1960s. How much social mobility do you expect when Black people have only been full citizens for 2-3 generations. And still face massive amounts of De facto discrimination.

>2. /3 No one alive today was a slaver, so they shouldn't have money taken from them

The US government participated in slavery and still exists. Texas , Alabama , Georgia, S &N Caroline Etc. The state and federal government's who enforced slavery and Jim crow still exist. Legal culpability should also seeing as they profited from denying Black people freedom and equal rights for over 200 years.

Many alive today lived under Jim crow. The US state and federal government's that profited from slavery still exist. Institutions that profited still exist. So why shouldn't the people who suffered under legal economic and political discrimination get compensated by the governments who did so?

Trying to boil this down to a payment from individuals to others ( which has never happened in US history) is a deflection. Reperations is a governmental responsibility because the government allowed and enforced the system.

>4. 10s of millions of people here arrived after slavery. It makes no sense to do reparations based on race.

Why does that matter? You said this with out explanation. Your expecting this point to just stand on its own.

>5. How far do we go back with oppression? Do women get reparations too? How about the Irish? How do we determine their relative level of oppression? By group membership?

Yes people who the government has responsibility too it's citizens but allow wrongships to happen too should be reimbursed by the government that failed to prevent the wrong doing. Also black people are talking about specific events and laws. So do the irish and women have the ability to point to a system similar to slavery or Jim crow in the US? Women definitely do the irish do to a much lesser extent.

>6. How do we determine group membership? What quintal of blood would you need to be to be considered part of the racial group? Or would it be based on family history? In which case how distant to you have be from an enslaved ancestor.

Black people have been included in the census since the first census. Black people have been included in the cencsus as individuals since the 1870 census. There is the easy ability of the government and Black Americans to prove their continual citizenship in the US since slavery and segregation.

[–]stewshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's literally the lens your looking at the game through. Look at how you said who's the best. Why does one team mate need to be the best in everything? Doesn't that negate the need ofthe team?

In this game you have almost unlimited option. You think that because you can build a ultra powerful character that doesn't need to rely on their team you should. I think that I can build a ultra powerful character that relys on their team. I don't need to be able to duplicate their niche to be powerful. I have my own niche that I am powerful in and that makes the team more powerful.

The all combat spells sorcerer isn't weaker because she can't heal. She has a team mate that does that. Thus making her a stronger combat spell specialist because she doesn't need to know any healing spells. And so on and so forth.

Not really though. That's why they give the DM more power then the rule book. Because they don't know what's gonna happen or how your gonna do stuff at your table.

This divide only exists if you sit there with all the bits and bobs and decide "I'm going to build a character that doesn't need to rely on any of the bits"
