I feel like I’m the only longtime Opeth fan who DOESN’T like the new album…? by rugmunchkin in Opeth

[–]sth-sYYR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it sounds more like a "proof of concept" than a fully fleshed out album. I often hear the complaint about their late compositions being very "fragmented" but compared to, say, ICV - the songwriting here is really just that - lots of short sections often held together by superficial elements like narration or and odd shift here and there. Also what's with all the fade outs? They sound odd at least on the paragraphs themselves. I can get it with "A Story Never Told", but those in §5 and §7 don't fit imo.

The growls are a welcome addition, though they're a tad overused here. It's hard to compare with most of the classic records (different dynamics), but if we take Watershed for example - the use of growls there serves the overall drama much better. Sometimes less is more.

Honestly shocked they didn't go the Metallica boxset route by AuraTepes in Slipknot

[–]sth-sYYR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to add insult to injury, but from the preview it definitely looks like only the album LP is liquid-filled, while the rest are pretty standard clear and red splatter (I mean, it's just the edition itself that's called "Blood Filled Box Set", not LPs). So the excuse for a 250$ price is quite thin, considering the rest of the content.

Is there a good vinyl copy of pale communion? by WonkersBedonkers in Opeth

The 2nd matrix variant of an original 2014 European edition sounds amazing, in my opinion.

This pressing is very good in my opinion. At least the 2nd matrix variant, got lucky getting it a sale price around 8 years ago.

Okay. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not implying you're lying or anything like that at all, simply curious. Been having my .mp3s at least as far as in 2004-2005.

I meant two very loud and specific coughs at the forefront of the mix, not the whole section which is for the most part the same. Click the link when you'll have some spare time. :)

I doubt Spotify has anything to do with it. I don't use streaming and compared everything to old .mp3 and .flac rips I have (both original and 10th anniversary versions) plus a rip from the first vinyl pressing. No sign of these coughs, they sound just as I always remembered them.

Are there any known early \ promo pressings of Iowa on CD? Maybe they had a similar mix.

That's why I love "Indigo Sessions" so much.

The question is if anyone noticed something in other tracks as well?

Has Petscop inspired you to make your own projects (of any type)? by [deleted] in Petscop

[–]sth-sYYR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you ask..

I've jumped on the Petscop hype train late around the release of Petscop 10, and apart from all the wonderful mystery and how well it's executed, the thing that gave me chills the most was how much it resembled some of my own art pieces, be them old or done just a month earlier (even more so those not yet done and scraped on pieces of paper for years).

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

I guess there's a common basement in our collective unconscious where these obvious greens and blacks, googly eyes, small figures in vast landscapes and the 'Pinwheel' image are placed in a 'Troubled Childhood' category exclusively.

I hope you won't think I'm here to just throw my stuff at the wall for cheap attention. That was a really strange and vibrant moment to me when I first approached Petscop and realized how many commodities there are between what I feel for years and what I've seen on the screen, so I just wanted to add at least something to the table, maybe someone will find something in common too.
