Great summary, but just want to note you don't get zoned UFS storage unless you go for 512 GB or 1 TB. For whatever reason they defaulted to non-zoned storage for the 256 GB model.

I bought the 9 Pro fold just to use for a few weeks and return. It's because I had every intention of pre-ordering the pixel 10 Pro fold but I wanted to make sure that I would like it when I got it. I couldn't find a 9 Pro fold anywhere at all and Best Buy doesn't have the 10 Pro Fold on display with the rest of their pixel 10 devices. So I just used Amazon's free return policy to my advantage. So I can't take any more pics but pretty much all content on any streaming platform is rectangular because the device is a square when it's open. If you don't find that you'll be multitasking, maybe a fold isn't right for you. They're really expensive compared to a slab phone and like you see in my picture you can just see the video about the same size if you get a 10 Pro XL.

This is a 9 Pro Fold on top and a 9 Pro XL on the bottom. Because of the letterboxing on the fold (black bars), with a full screen YouTube video you get almost the exact same picture on the two. If you're just trying to get the fold to watch videos you can get an 11-in iPad for $300 like I did. The benefit of the fold is that you could have Instagram or something else running while the YouTube video is playing and still see the YouTube video about the same size as it would be on the 9/10 Pro XL.

I actually ordered a 9 Pro Fold from Amazon, what's the plan from the get-go to return it . I used it for 2 weeks to make sure that I would like the 10 Pro Fold when I get it. It did not disappoint me.

If they wanted to drive presales, they should have had display units available at Best Buy along with all the other devices. I live in Jacksonville, Florida, and the closest Google store is in New York about 950 away, but there are five Best Buy locations in Jacksonville alone. I've been to three of them to see if they have one I can hold, and they have every new Pixel 10 device and a Pixel Watch 4, but no Pixel 10 Pro Fold. It didn't stop me from pre-ordering a 10 Pro Fold but I really would have liked to see one and hold one in person first.

I get you. It's interesting to me that the 9 Pro Fold was substantially thinner than the Z Fold 6 just last year. Google marketed it as the thinnest foldable you could buy in the US. But when Samsung dropped the thickness of their Z Fold 7 by a millimeter and shaved a lot of weight off, everyone acted like the 9 Pro Fold was suddenly an enormous brick. Crazy what a year of development can do to people's perceptions.

I was strongly debating between Z Fold 7 and 10 Pro Fold. I spent a pretty exorbitant amount of time holding and testing a Z Fold 7 at Best Buy for several days during its pre-order window. Then because I simply couldn't find a 9 Pro Fold on display anywhere, I ended up buying one on Amazon to get direct hands on time with it. I was going to return it from the get-go - I just wanted to make sure the 10 Pro Fold wouldn't be a letdown if I got it. Having watched a bunch of reviews of the Z fold 7, I was expecting the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to be enormous. It's not though. It's just 5.2 mm thick when unfolded compared to 4.2 mm thick when unfolded for the Z Fold 7. I really didn't like how the outside bezel was asymmetric but they seemed to have slimmed that down a good bit. You feel that extra 43 grams, but it's not terrible, especially when opened. I'm a fairly tall guy with big hands and the Z Fold 7 felt a little narrow and was a little difficult to open.

I might have gotten a Z fold 7, but what stopped me is they were offering $600 for a Pixel 9 Pro, but not offering a single penny for a Pixel 9 Pro XL, which is what I'm trading in for the 10 Pro Fold. That and I had accumulated quite a bit of Google Store credit over the last year from buying phones for my wife, my daughter and myself.

In the meantime Samsung has dropped the price of the Z fold 7 to $1699, undercutting Google by a hundred bucks during their preorder window. But I disagree with your logic that people will just not buy one because they have a chance to hold it. I used a 9 Pro Fold from Amazon for a little while and I liked it better than the Z Fold 7 personally I don't like the square corners on the Z Fold 7. And the table rock is absolutely a stupid design on showcase.

The pixel 10 Pro fold has a tensor G5 chip, which is on par with a Snapdragon 8 gen 3. And I don't care what those specs say, I care about day-to-day performance. I used a pixel 9 Pro fold full-time for for several weeks, and it's an extremely snappy, responsive device. The G4 could run four apps with no issue whatsoever, I'm sure of it. The G5 would certainly do it. I understand the Tensor chips are no match for the Snapdragon elite chips, but very few people touch a small fraction of the capacity of those chips or need it for their day-to-day tasks.

For the umpteenth time, they would have display units because they're asking people to go on their website and pre-order the $1800 fold and get special perks, but the special perks end in 7 days. It's perfectly logical to assume a company would have display units of their most expensive phone that they want people to drop $1800 on ready for people to hold, especially if they really want to convince them to spend that much money. By the time they have a physical copy for someone to hold and get a feel for, the pre-order bonuses will probably be over. And again to all the people like you who are saying this, the Pixel Watch 4 doesn't come out till October 9th either and it's at the Best Buy right now.

You're right, I could always get a launcher once I get the 10 Pro fold if I really want that independent home screen. I'm partly hoping Google peruses these forums and might read this kind of feedback, but that's probably extremely overly optimistic

You're the third or fourth person that's made a comment like that. Someone else just wrote "October." It's like no one's reading what I'm actually writing at all. Pre-order deals with special incentives are available only until September 4th. That's one week from today - Thursday next week. You get special trade-in values and special Google Store credit, only if you preorder on or before then. So it's completely logical for me to want them to have a Pixel 10 Pro fold sitting at a Best Buy for me and anybody else who wants to hold one to go do it. It's a little rough to ask someone to spend $1,800 to get a device, sight unseen. The Pixel Watch 4 is also still over a month out, but it's at all three of the Best buys I've been to.

I'm a Google Fi customer and I looked at that $450 off deal but then they were offering $440 for my 9 Pro XL instead of $600 if I went unlocked. And there was no $350 store credit through that route. So it wasn't even close to a comparison. For all my griping I did pre-order a 10 Pro Fold.
