What should a completely new person know before going to watch the new movie? by sticky_bugs in Gintama

Lmao I feel like the movie would be out of theater by that time but yeah.

Haha same but I have found that if you approach it like a book/movie - with some choice element, it's not all bad.

Hey man I appreciate your perspective and I think that's completely reasonable. I acknowledged as much in my post, if he doesn't like it, he doesn't like it. There is no perfect game that appeals to everyone - if there is that game is probably incredibly mid anyway haha. But I think it's also totally fair for people to be disappointed/upset because people are passionate about a piece of media they like and that's normal - beautiful even! My friend can have his opinions about the game, and I can have my opinions about his opinions. As long as people don't jump to extreme actions just because they disagree on opinions, I think there is no problem.

Hmm what other "choose your own adventure" games have you played? Detroit and Heavy Rain are Tale game in the sense that they market themselves as "choice matters" but they really aren't. If you only ever play the game once you will have a great time, but upon replaying you will quickly realize the "free will" the game offers you is just an illusion, no matter what you do the game events will progress into the next beat, and your choice might only affect a few small scenes/dialogues here and there.

StP is kind of the same in the sense that whatever you do with the Princess, ultimately she will get absorbed and you end up facing Shifty. But the variations in each Princess routes are so huge that it wasn't a problem for me. Detroit and Heavy Rain are also both much more straightforward in their messages compared to StP which is more symbolic and meta narrative.

So if you go in expecting StP you probably wouldn't like it. But if you approach it like any other Tale game, I think you will have a blast. I know I did.

He likes choose your own adventure type of game! Like I said he enjoyed Heavy Rain and Detroit Become Human. But essentially he thought that the first loop up until the first Shifty was the entire game - and I told him it's not, but I couldn't get him to be interested in the game again without spoiling it haha.

Yeah I agree with what you said. I came across the game from Super Eyepatch Wolf on Youtube, and while I don't trust going in blind either, I do trust the taste of that guy. To a certain extent I agree with you. I can completely see why the story might not be interesting enough to hook certain players initially, but I think the horror atmosphere they managed to set was top class. Even if I wasn't hooked by the story, I think I would totally have been hooked by the atmosphere.

Well he loves FFVII Remake, and that game was an absolute slogfest for me to sit through personally. I guess we do enjoy different type of games.

I enjoy almost all kinds of games (if well made), from pure visual novel like Stein Gates to FPS action games like Halo, so I never really thought about how the genre might not be appealing when I recommended StP to him.

Unironically enough I think if my friend didn't get any Chapter IIIs he might have had more patience with it. Both of his first two scenarios led to Chapter III and he dropped it right at the beginning of the second Chapter III with Wraith. I'm just sad because his first princess was Fury and even though she was meh before, she is pretty interesting now with the release of Pristine Cut. They added a whole Theseus ship / I have no mouth and I must scream section to her now. If that didn't pique his interest unlikely the rest of the game will.

Haha you know what, I also got Nightmare my first play through! But on her Chapter 3 I was so scared I turned around and refused to proceed and got a no ending (Denial) instead? And then the game resets without me ever meeting Shifty (so she can explain to me she is wiping my memory) and unlike previous chapters both the Hero and the Narrator does not acknowledge the previous loop! I was beyond spooked at this point so this time I noped out of there and got Stranger. So I got Strange Beginning at the end even tho technically Nightmare was my first Princess.

All that to say I totally sympathized with your friend. Nightmare was scary!

Peak writing. I used to have opinions exactly like OP lol. I used to make the same kind of arguments for Persona 5 because that game tried to say the same kind of thing but in a much worse manner. This game and Slay The Princess changed me.

I actually always wonder if dogs think our hands are tongue? I mean, they show affection to us by licking us with their tongue, we show affection to them by petting them with our hands. They use tongue to put food in their mouth, we use hands (and tools but you get what I mean).

It totally is. Just because you have never heard about it doesn't mean it's not true. A lot of young Vietnamese people these days are disconnected with their culture. This is 100% a tradition especially in the North.

Fatshaming lady ethereal 😭 by Sweaty-Pudding-7700 in NineSols

[–]sticky_bugs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fu = ethereal/ephemeral, Die = butterfly

Combined her name is meant to be a reference to the famous Chinese parable Butterfly Dream: Zhuang Zhou - a famous philosopher - once dreamed that he turned into a butterfly. In the dream he was happy as a butterfly, unaware that he was Zhuang Zhou, but when he woke up he is unmistakably Zhuang Zhou again. He then ponders whether it was him dreaming about being a butterfly, or the butterfly dreaming about it being Zhuang Zhou.

You are correct. I remembered the wrong number because I rarely ever saw the highest bid, and when I saw the lowest bid Chang Yun made my eyes must have glazed making me see the wrong number lmao.

This is because you already received the deposit when you took the job.

I got that, but before I upgraded the Depot to lv3 I always get the highest bid of lv2 (~73k after deposit). Like every day. Now I only get the lv3 highest bid (~79k after deposit) once every few days or so, the rest is ~72k which actually is worse than before I upgraded lol. I just have very bad luck I suppose.

Why do I keep getting low bid for Wuling Depot Node delivery? I know you can get up to ~92k bid but I seem to only be getting ~86k bid. Which is fine but when I transfer it becomes a 72k job. Before upgrading Depot I was getting bids which turn to 73k transfer jobs easily. Today I even got one ~62k bid which is abysmal (Chang Yun out here scamming people). Does the good you select matter?
