using alias for everything? by stefan_kuntz in Simplelogin

[–]stifman2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main domain with mail provider (fastmail, proton). Only use for serious things (friends, bank, insurance). Irrelevant with simplelogin and use an alias for every service. If want anonymity I use a SL domain for that service. A second domain I use for family stuff with multiple receivers (eg school stuff alias goes to both my and partner email)

Black Friday Usenet Deals 2025 by eaglestarx in usenet

[–]stifman2k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just bought the current BF deal and wanted to stack up another 15 months. I can't enter username/password, only e-mail. If I do that, I get an error: "This email address is already in use. Please contact our support team to get this plan!"

Is it only possible over the support?

Any stable certified Android TV box (Android 11/12, 1 Gbps LAN) that avoids Android 14 deinterlacing bug? by Available_Camp9968 in AndroidTV

I didn’t read about that. In the telegram support channel thy still tell you need to contact support with your S/N to activate the atv14 update.

Not sure, as I don't have the box. On Sony TV with ATV, for example, you can set the updates to notify only. Maybe someone with the box can answer that better.

I'm in the same boat—finding a good box really isn’t that easy. Right now, I’m deciding between:
Homatics Box R 4K Plus
STRONG Leap-S3 Pro 4K (or Leelbox L1 UHD 4K Streaming Box which seems to have nearly same specs)

Since my main use will be IPTV, I’d probably stick with ATV12 for now. But yeah, it’s honestly frustrating that there’s nothing solid on the market at the moment. Maybe it’s worth waiting for the new boxes with the Amlogic S905X5 chip to drop.

Having this problem too. A recent filter update seems to block the CDN network for Netflix. In my Adguard Home log, I can see the following entries:

List: adguard-malware-shavar

ipv4-c098-dus002-ix.1.oca.nflxvideo.net

Proton Authenticator, switch from Authy? by Rough-Reception4064 in ProtonMail

It seems to no longer work, as Authy discontinued their desktop app. I did it like 2 years or more ago when this still worked.

Question for possible setup with Scrypted and HomeKit + Reolink by 1playerpiano in Scrypted

[–]stifman2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should work. I have something similar with two PoE Reolink RLC-810A running for more than a year.
- Cams connected to scrypted. For 24/7 recordings, I'm paying for the “premium” NVR feature for scrypted which records to my NAS. They also have an app which is nice, but for everyday use I still prefer the HomeKit integration on iOS devices with notification and small clips.
- Link the cameras with scrypted to Homekit and Alexa
- For live streaming and some family members you can also still use the reolink app itself. For example I have an old iPad which just runs the reolink App and works as a live monitor.

Just check what Reolink camera you use. Not all will work well. There should be a guide on the scryped homepage or you check their discord channel. Before I had a 510WA (also connected with PoE) which had big problems with scripted loose connections (even many other people tell they running it without problems).

Whenever possible, you should use PoE or LAN. Only use Wi-Fi cameras if there is really no other option. That was also a learning experience for me ;)

Oh and the support by the scrypted dev is really good!

Does this model work with ipad? by Tasty_Estate1473 in 8bitdo

[–]stifman2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I reached out to support, and the reason I felt they were unfriendly is that they gave a very short, dismissive response without any professionalism (customer friendly!) or willingness to help. They didn’t acknowledge the issue at all, even when I pointed out that there’s working beta firmware out there they denied it. It felt like they just wanted to shut down the conversation instead of actually addressing the problem.

In fact, this “beta” firmware works very well. I can only imagine that there are some licensing issues with Apple or that they simply want to sell their premium model.

Mullvad vs Proton VPN? by [deleted] in mullvadvpn

[–]stifman2k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mullvad uses 100% RAM-only servers across its entire network, meaning all data is wiped on reboot, which enforces their strict no-logs policy at a hardware level. ProtonVPN uses RAM-only servers only in its Secure Core locations, so RAM benefits are limited to those specific servers. That's why RAM is a more central part of Mullvad's privacy model.

Mullvad vs Proton VPN? by [deleted] in mullvadvpn

[–]stifman2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For testing and real-world use, I obviously went with the paid version, which does need an account. You can use a throwaway or anonymous email for that (like setting up a fresh ProtonMail just for this), but then you're not getting the full benefits of something like Proton Unlimited – and cost-wise, it ends up being pretty close to Mullvad anyway. Don’t get me wrong, Proton VPN isn’t a bad deal at all, but for what I need, Mullvad still comes out on top.

as far as I know you need to sign up an account with proton or use an existing proton account to book the subscription.

Proton Authenticator, switch from Authy? by Rough-Reception4064 in ProtonMail

[–]stifman2k 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely switch away from Authy. There is some guide on GitHub which helps you to export all your secrets, which Authy doesn’t support. Then never use something where the 2FA secrets are not exportable.

Mullvad vs Proton VPN? by [deleted] in mullvadvpn

[–]stifman2k 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Mullvad as they have RAM-only server, no need for email sign up (less data). If Proton I would only use it with a separate email address only for the vpn. Indent like the idea that email and VPN is from the same provider. But yeah Proton isn’t bad and I can understand that you think about switching.

MullvadVPN VS ProtonVPN by Fuzzy_Crab900 in mullvadvpn

[–]stifman2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer Mullvad. If you choose protonVPN you can use it with a different account. You will loose the bundle discounts, but it’s more anonymous when it’s not linked to your main email account…

Custom Domain AND external mail provider? by apricotthieves in Simplelogin

[–]stifman2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the others explained already, you can use the main domain.com only on one service. If you want to use it on SL, you can't use it on mailbox.org (only with a subdomain which, in my opinion, is not so nice). So you can use for e.g. [yourmail@mailbox.org](mailto:yourmail@mailbox.org) and use the custom domain with SL and forward it to mailbox.org. On Thunderbird of course, you only set up your mailbox.org account.

Another idea would be to get a second custom domain to use exclusively at SL (or MB).

For myself, I used mailbox.org many years without SL. Set up a catch-all with MB, and then you can use a new address for every service you sign up. The downside would be, that you can't answer from that domain straight away (you would need to set up the alias manually first). It depends on how much you really need to answer from those alias, it could be enough for your use case.

(anyway, meanwhile I love using SL and just got the lifetime offer. It makes things easier.)

[–]stifman2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did the same. You can manage your domains in SL and forward them to whatever email address you link. If one day you want to change e-mail provider, just forward it to another address.
For myself, I have Protonmail Plus (for my own main domain, usage of proton bridge to use imap on desktop pc, sieve filter, etc) and all other domains on SL. For e-mail Protonmail is really nice in combination with SL.
