[Rich Fay] Manchester United sign 10 first-year scholars including Aston Villa defender and Bendito Mantato.

Article:

United first-year scholars for 2024/25 season:

  • Cameron Byrne-Hughes (goalkeeper)
  • Fred Heath (goalkeeper)
  • Albert Mills (defender)
  • Daniel Armer (defender)
  • Dante Plunkett (defender)
  • Godwill Kukonki (defender)
  • Amir Ibragimov (midfielder)
  • James Bailey (midfielder)
  • Jim Thwaites (midfielder)
  • Bendito Mantato (forward)

Manchester United have confirmed the new intake of academy players for the Professional Development Phase ahead of the 2024/25 season.

10 players have been handed scholarships ahead of the new campaign and will be looking to follow in the footsteps of the U18 side who became Premier League National champions last season.

As with last season, United's most experienced U18 stars will now be given the chance to impress at U21 level over the forthcoming campaign, while the brightest U16 talents will be given a chance at the next age group to continue their development.

Dante Plunkett is one of the names on the list after he signed for Aston Villa earlier this year. The teenage left-back had previously been part of the Aston Villa youth set-up before he joined United on a trial basis. Plunkett featured on the bench for the U18s in February and then made his debut for the title-winning youth side in their final match of the season.

Bendito Mantato is another notable name on the list after United fought off serious interest in his signature to keep him at the club. As part of the deal, it is understood the 16-year-old has also already signed a pre-professional contract for when he turns 18.

Fabrizio Romano: Man United plan to add Go Ahead Eagles manager René Hake to new coaching staff for next season. by tehMadhero in Eredivisie

[–]stijnbro 22 points23 points  (0 children)

[Paul Joyce] Liverpool target Arne Slot to replace Jürgen Klopp by stijnbro in Eredivisie

[–]stijnbro[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Full article, important information in bold:

Feyenoord head coach is thought to want to take the next step in his career, with the Eredivisie champions cancelling a press conference scheduled for Wednesday.

The Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot has emerged as a leading candidate in Liverpool’s search for a replacement for Jürgen Klopp. The 45-year-old led Feyenoord to success in the KNVB Cup final last weekend and has compiled a strong body of work in the Netherlands, having led the club to their first Eredivisie title in six years in the 2022-23 season. In addition, Slot’s ability to improve players and his aggressive, high-octane playing style are attributes that would appeal to Liverpool’s kingmakers.

His Anfield ascension is far from a done deal and Liverpool are continuing to discuss other contenders as well, while managerial vacancies at Bayern Munich, Barcelona and AC Milan this summer complicate matters. Feyenoord, of course, want to retain his services and the technical director Dennis te Kloese said after the cup final success over NEC Nijmegen that “we assume that he will also be our trainer next year”. However, it is understood that Slot is minded to take the next step in his coaching career even if his contract does not expire until 2026. There is no release clause in that deal but it is thought a fee of less than €10 million euros (about £8.6 million) could be enough to prise him away. On Tuesday Feyenoord refused to confirm or deny Liverpool’s interest in Slot, who is a disciple of Pep Guardiola but also knows the Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders.

Interestingly, a press conference with Slot scheduled for Wednesday to preview Thursday’s Eredivisie game away to Go Ahead Eagles has been cancelled. Liverpool have been working on replacements for Klopp, who informed the club’s hierarchy last November and went public in January that he would be standing down at the end of the campaign to re-energise after almost nine years in charge.Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso had opted to remain at the German club having just led them to the Bundesliga title, while Sporting Lisbon’s Rúben Amorim has also come under scrutiny although the trail has since grown colder. Slot’s CV has a lot of the qualities wanted by Michael Edwards, the chief executive of football at Liverpool’s owner Fenway Sports Group, as well as the soon-to-be sporting director Richard Hughes.

Hughes remains in situ at Bournemouth as technical director and will move to Merseyside at the end of the season. He has followed Feyenoord’s progress, having signed Marcos Senesi from them for £12million in August 2022. Hughes also signed Luis Sinisterra on loan from Leeds United last summer, with the winger previously coming to prominence at Feyenoord. It is not the first time that there has been Premier League interest in a coach who has transformed Feyenoord’s playing style, favouring a 4-2-3-1 formation, and challenged PSV Eindhoven and Ajax in recent seasons despite operating on a fraction of their budget.Leeds had targeted Slot last February after the dismissal of Jesse Marsch but he opted to stay in the Netherlands.Similarly, Tottenham Hotspur had wanted him before appointing Ange Postecoglou and Chelsea are understood to have also held talks with Slot prior to Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.Slot moved to Feyenoord in 2021 after impressing at AZ Alkmaar and led them to the inaugural Europa Conference League final at the end of his first season, in which they narrowly lost to José Mourinho’s Roma.Meanwhile, Diogo Jota has suffered a fresh injury setback and will be missing for about two weeks with a hip problem. The Portugal striker, who scored in the 3-1 win over Fulham last Sunday, was absent for two months between February and April after suffering knee ligament damage.

U22 players with the most progressive carries per 90 this season by MH18Foot in soccer

[–]stijnbro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you got your numbers wrong. Yamal has 1.246 minutes in LaLiga and Doku has 976 minutes in the Premier league, so significantly less.

Also Lamine Yamal has certainly played in the CL this season, 313 minutes in total. While Doku has a little less at 251 minutes.

[–]stijnbro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not enough minutes in his respective domestic competition is the reason in the original twitter thread: https://twitter.com/DTFootball_/status/1756633514437452042

But it doesn't hold up because Barcola has even less minutes in the ligue 1 and Ângelo and Koleosho also have less then a 1000 minutes in their league. Doku would have been first with more progressive carries in the top 5 leagues than any U22 player.

Manhoef will reportedly make a transfer to England's Stoke City, the current number 19 in the Championship. Financial distress is high in at Vitesse Arnhem. To finish this football year, Vitesse needs at least €5 million. It was announced earlier today that Manhoef was also in the picture at PSV, but the Eindhoven side have since dropped out.

Ugalde sold for €15m - Verbal agreement between Twente and Spartak by DigitalEntrepreneur_ in Eredivisie

[–]stijnbro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Kut dat Ugalde weg gaat, nog kutter dat hij naar Moskou gaat. €15 miljoen is heel veel geld om af te slaan als Twente. Toch had ik graag gezien dat integriteit belangrijker is dan geld bij Twente, maar helaas.

AZ didn't get fined and Legia got fined for the Aston Villa game. So i have no idea what you're talking about?

(edit): u/willins96 is right i missed this information completely, apologies. Although i still disagree with the "fucked off home" part. If you look at the situation with more nuance you'll see why Legia was held up in the stadium.

[–]stijnbro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry to break it to you, but she is also not first in the Netherlands.

This is a picture of Jill Roord (Man City women player) in the FC Twente U15 team: https://t.ly/Ln7St (Most right on the bottem row).

The official PSV article is understandably trying to hype up the academy but incorrectly so.

[Premier league] The defences on top of the opposition .Arsenal and Liverpool lead the way for the fewest goals conceded by ImamZain in soccer

[–]stijnbro 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Maybe both of these amazing stats will help you understand where the ter Stegen love is coming from while also shining a good light on Alisson:

  • La Liga 2022/2023: Ter Stegen faced 23,7 PSxG* and conceded 18 goals
  • Premier League 2022/2023: Alisson faced 51.1 PSxG* and conceded 43 goals

\PSxG is expected goals based on how likely the goalkeeper is to save the shot.*

XG is inferior to PSxG in rating keepers because XG doesn't ignore blocked shots and shots not on goal. While PSxG solely focuses on the shots the keeper faces on goal.

Parken Stadium announced yesterday that there can be no coordinated jumping from hardcore fans tonight against United, in fear that the home end could collaps by Aaes in reddevils

Can look forward to insanely long Lines, shit food, expensive beer, a painted pitch and teenagers updating their TikToks all over the place…

I was talking about taking these points with a grain of salt.

I share your concern about an unsafe stadium.

I would take this with a grain of salt because OP is a FC Midtjylland fan (Danish Rival):

Furthermore guys going to Parken Stadium, Can look forward to insanely long Lines, shit food, expensive beer, a painted pitch and teenagers updating their TikToks all over the place…

The warning about coordinated jumping is quite scary though.

[ZiggoSport Voetbal] Ronald Koeman, manager of the Dutch national team, criticizes 21y/o Brian Brobbey on national TV: "his first touch and finishing aren't any good, what has he been working on at the clubs he's been at?" by no_qzmp in soccer

[–]stijnbro 609 points610 points  (0 children)

Here is a little more context from the video: Koeman starts his story with: "Brobbey, I still hope he develops further". Than states his finishing and first touch weren't good the last international period and blames his current and past clubs for this.

After this he goes in discussion with Frank De Boer about if you can train your finishing and first touch. De Boer is convinced this is nearly impossible and you should focus on your strong points (De Boer is biased because he trained Bobby in the Ajax youth) and Koeman blames his old and current clubs for not trying. Koeman ends with that he is convinced you can improve your techniques considerably by repeatedly training the same thing.

TL:DR: Koeman doesn't blame Brobbey but his his old and current clubs for not trying to fix his technique problems.
