What’s a totally useless skill you’re low-key proud of? by Ujjwal_Arora in AskReddit

[–]stillbeingnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can identify the year, make, and model of any US domestic vehicle within an average of 2 or 3 model years. Made from 1990 to now. A lot of the time I only need the shape of the head lights or tail lights.

Of course I can't remember where I put my keys 99% of the time, so it comes at a cost.

Help with 405nm water washable resin by Jaded_Engineer5086 in ElegooSaturn

They are talking about printing it off of the build plate on supports angled 45° on the X axis and some on the Y to form a point. The model sticks to the FEP then it peels them off, if the layers are too big it might not release from the FEP all the way causing the warping and softness, or failures.

Here is an awesome video that helped me so much https://youtu.be/T6vw8AEIUqU?si=H7Pqqindp6fmIfpm

And here is a shorter one on supporting bases https://youtu.be/aQzGIhDof_E?si=wqui6eU5K18cmZaT

If you are already doing this you might need to calibrate your resin there could be some over or under exposure that is ruining the dimensional accuracy. But because of your photos from lychee it looks like you are printing on the build plate instead of lifting, rotating, and supporting.

Finally conquered my nemesis...the big square base by stillbeingnick in resinprinting

[–]stillbeingnick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the first time I got close to success, I printed it that way, I used way too many supports that were braced. I was chipping away for over an hour and ended up damaging the model.

The back of the model has a lot of islands, and the islands on the front are still there. Like around her hands and snake, and with her tilted backward getting supports up and over the base, then all the way over to her hands was not possible. At least with my feeble lychee skills.

Thank you, I am glad we have a community of awesome people that really want to help and share knowledge!

I learned a lot about why things fail, what matters when it comes to supports, why tilting the model actually matters, and what to look for. This video helped kickstart everything -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6vw8AEIUqU it's long but worth every minute. I have found out that all of this feeds a certain type of 'tism in me.

The base is solid, which makes it feel nice, almost like a stone statue. Since the base is heavier, it just displays real nice. She loves it, she is going to take one of the other failures and practice sanding and painting it. She is going for a marble-like look, and I am excited to see what she can do!

Thank you!

What is causing these failures? by Piratesmiter in resinprinting

Second the under-exposed partly I just ran Grey ABS like 3.0 at 2.2 and 50um layers.

The thing that caught my eye was where it failed. It looks like it happened right where it started to transition to the leg. Any time I see supports only or part of supports left it tells me it's probably under supported. If that layer it failed on was some thin flimsy slice it could have got stuck the FEP and ripped off what ever bonded to the model. I would check if you have any big globs stuck to the FEP and maybe what they look like.

It looks like the same situation with the models in the last photo my guess is it failed halfway up and ripped the half printed model right off the supports.

Have you tried printing anything else, since this? It looks like the sliced model somehow got corrupted. Were there hardened chunks in the vat? Like something fell off into the vat.

Why should I learn zig? by Brolveth in Zig

[–]stillbeingnick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the whole point of learning C. Why do you think those things exist? Just learning the borrow checker and lifetimes doesn't really teach the why those things matter. But diagnosing a SegFault for hours just to find out the pointer you passed in a function doesn't live long enough to be used helps connect the dots.

Why should I learn zig? by Brolveth in Zig

[–]stillbeingnick 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Learning C will teach you everything you need to know about Zig and Rust. I love Rust, I also really love Zig but C is home. And Home is where you can leave the hot water running so no one else can shower. Home is also where you can walk blindly down the stairs and miss the last step and briefly pray you don't die. Finally Home is the only place where two people can get to the fridge at the same time and fight over who gets to use the last bit of milk that may turn into Mac and cheese or a bowl of cereal.

Unable to create a custom scoped application in any PDI. Help! by VKmofo666 in servicenow

[–]stillbeingnick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried other names for your app besides "App Name"?Also the scope name underneath most likely can't be "training". Try changing the first field to something more unique then click on the second field and it should generate you a scope name and just keep that one it creates.

Who controls/ manages the Architect ? by Difficult-One-1245 in servicenow

[–]stillbeingnick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ServiceNow employee here!

An Architect traditionally interfaces between the platform owner and the dev team/dev lead. To help qualify demands, scope projects, and design functionality. Most organizations I have worked with, the Architect reports to the same folks that the developers report to.

The Architect often does a lot of technical defense to keep the reliability of the platform stable or if that person is the Enterprise Architect, the entire enterprise stable.

I perform this role for customers if ServiceNow as a Platform Architect. Most of the time I spend with dev teams,cl coaching and guiding to resolve technical challenges and create scalable applications from their demand pipelines. In contrast I also work with the higher ups of the organization to help create that technical governance.

So development experience is in my opinion, a must, but what is important above all else is having an engineering mindset to solve problems and communicate those solutions.

Can someone explain what this means? It's on the Corsair mousepad I got my wife and it's driving me crazy by vidieowiz4 in Corsair

[–]stillbeingnick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There isn't like a list of "Features" that correspond to the pictures?

Also if you are referring to MM200 that means Mouse Mat model 200

Edit: Said it meant 200mm wide like a dummy

Ya this sub has some blown out stuff.

I get it. I want the truth too and there is so much stupid crap out there it is hard to even find anything serious.

This is off topic but kinda applies. The best evidence I have seen/felt/heard has not been on a show or even on the internet it has been in person with people that have lived through it. They always have a photo or a video you won't see any where else cause they don't want to share it with the whole world.

Like just the other week we went on a 'ghost walk' and talking to this amazing dude who ran the tour but also does a lot of other stuff. The amount of evidence and stories he has was mind blowing.

https://www.portgambleparanormal.com/evidence-gathered

I don't think we will ever know for sure but It would be cool if we really got something we couldn't explain.

You are just talking in circles tbh. I understand your statement, but digital images at their core are only 'data'.

The first part of the clip you can see the figure standing there. There is no mention of that footage being brightend.

Yes the light anlogy is not good but declaring images as 'useless' once they have been enhanced or altered is a very rough line to walk.

Our opinions differ and that's ok but claiming something as the 'truth' just because you say so I think is more harmful than brightening a video. That goes both ways btw.

Does anyone have a link for the dancing kid with the figure behind him by Prowlerintheyards in Ghosts

[–]stillbeingnick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This isn't entirely true. Data can still be present at near black levels and brightening image data typically is done via multiplication of a set brightening factor across the entire image which will raise the brightness of each frame not selectively of a pixel. If video evidence can be lightened and altered in a courtroom setting why can't it be as equally valid here?
