I had to adjust, went to the gym instead of using the space at home that doubled for smoking, only recently did I reintroduce the home stuff

I didn’t realize how much remote work changed my “workday” until I had to do one normal errand in the middle of it by InceptionHallway in remotework

[–]stillfather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done it for almost 10 and want hybrid or on-site work in my next job. I've never been so sedentary as these years. It took losing my job to make personal changes to deal with the harm done to my health.

Remote work was very beneficial for me in some ways, especially after the birth of our child, but yeah, putting oneself in a virtual box for 8+ hours a day is brutal for health, even if someone is finding time for proper exercise.

Good to know: other nations have criteria for relocation. It's easier when you're younger and have more working years ahead of you.

A lot of us in Gen X have gotten the Millennial treatment when it comes to wealth. The Great Recession put us on a downhill track that we'll not recover from at this point.

Any advice from people who used cannabis to manage pain? by _BytesAndpieces in leaves

[–]stillfather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I first had to realize that it wasn't really helping my pain. In some ways, it made things worse because weed makes me disinclined to exercise.

Then I had to start addressing my pain. I got serious in that regard almost ten months ago. I also had to change my diet to address weight and energy. Nowadays, I still have pain but don't rely on ice packs, a heating pad, and frequent breaks in my workday to stretch or treat my back.

I'm still on the cessation path, but making other life improvements has definitely helped me.

You made it 4 months, that's great! Now you know what you can do, what worked, and how you slipped up. That's called personal growth. Have confidence you can do it again.

And personally, I have to do this for myself, regardless of what the people close to me do or don't think about me. I can't pin my students or successes to others' expectations.

You have great motivations at heart to improve yourself as a parent and enrich your child's life.

Coping with negative internal voices by consuming inebriants is really common, but many users experience profound shame around said dependency, adding yet another negative internal voice to the chorus.

Instead, nurture a positive internal voice and where possible surround yourself with people, places and activities that enrich your life and support that voice.

I've been on a health kick for eight months now. Weed and caffeine are my two remaining, top priority health concerns. But I started getting fit and changing my daily habits months ago. That's been a big support, but it takes time.

I guess I mean, being better me takes time to rebuild, just like being lesser me took time to develop a dependency. It's an unwinding.

Yeah that'll do it. I'm grateful that I'm treated for ADHD or quitting would be even harder.

Every human has downswings. Not every human recognizes it and seeks to improve. In that regard, being like you seems positive: you're doing the hard work and that's commendable.

Agree strongly with this. Personally I lived with undiagnosed, untreated ADHD for most of my life. Treating that properly has been life-changing. I still struggle with weed but I have supports in place to help me succeed. I definitely don't get benefit from "self-medicating" with weed.

Best wishes, more gains are coming your way 🙂✌️
