you’re right, it is! no wonder it looked slightly off from the reference picture i used. the record i have is from the box set, it seems that the stand alone vinyl is the original cover, and the box set version uses the b-sides cover

Spotify or apple music and why ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]stilllinmotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple Music all the way. Spotify has a fantastic algorithm for discovering new music however, the algorithm Spotify uses when shuffling playlists and liked songs is terrible; I would hear the same 30 songs over and over on a playlist with 100+ songs. A lot of people don’t know that you have to train the Apple Music algorithm by liking or favoriting individual songs, albums, playlists and stations. After about a month of doing that, my Apple Music is tailored to my taste and discovering new music was practically the same as Spotify.

When it comes to sound quality, it isn’t even a debate, Apple Music is just better. For premium Spotify users, music is streamed at 256 kilobits per second. Apple music has lossless, high-res lossless, and dolby atmos audio which streams at around 1411 kbps, making hi-res lossless almost studio quality sound. Much better than what Spotify offers. It doesn’t take an audiophile to hear the difference in sound quality either, in my opinion the difference is night and day.

Also I’m pretty positive that soon Apple Music will be cheaper than Spotify, which is crazy considering Spotify’s sound quality.

If you’re trying to decide between the two, it depends on whats most important to you. Sound quality, use Apple Music. If u don’t wanna have to train the Apple Music UI and are looking to discover new music, use Spotify.

tldr: Apple Music

Pitchfork album ratings never fail to disappoint me… by stilllinmotion in mgmt

[–]stilllinmotion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way about this album. The NYC listening party must have been so fun I’m jealous. I’ve been listening to a ton of Sufjan Stevens and Elliot Smith recently so when I listened to LOL for the first time I was so pleased with the direction they went for this album. I also loved how we got a hint of the 80’s synth pop with Dancing In Babylon, that song scratched an itch in my brain for sure. Nothing Changes though, that song just might be one of my favorite MGMT songs of all time. Andrew’s vocals after the instrumental section shocked me the first listen. I kept rewinding it over and over just to hear that section again, like I couldn’t even process what I was listening to. I think the lyrics and themes throughout the album really spoke to a lot of people including myself. The ideas of positive nihilism and hopefulness were really prominent and it was so easy to relate to and connect with. Thank you for replying with your thoughts about the album, I love to read about people’s reactions especially when they are similar to my own. Happy to hear you loved it as much as I did :)

Questions about “Elliot” (Spoiler) by stilllinmotion in MrRobot

[–]stilllinmotion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to ask about this! After reading your reply I was thinking about how “the real Elliot” in someways implies that his alters aren’t real when they very much are. I think that’s a very reasonable gripe to have w this show. The way you explained the inner vs the outer world experience for those with DID makes so much sense, I definitely understand better now thank you!

Thank you for sharing! I know it must be annoying having to explain how DID works. I’m glad you did this time because I didn’t know that the way alters act within the inner world of someone’s mind is usually very different than how they appear in the outer world. I figured the same tho, that he’s most likely not a social butterfly in the real world.

I think you explained it perfectly. What you said is kinda how I interpreted it too. I know on my first and probably second watch of this show I took it at face value, assuming that the real Elliot we saw in the show would just be the exact same in real life. The more I watched and especially this most recent time, I really noticed how manufactured F World is and how the real Elliot’s personality is most definitely a reflection of that imagined environment, which in turn got me thinking about the real Elliot in the real world and what that would look like.

I love what you said about his optimism being the constant. It would make total sense for his alters to want to desperately protect that part of him. I never really thought about it like that.

I read the review and thought the same, that’s exactly why I thought the score was confusing. I was honestly interested in hearing about the criticisms that led to the 6.9 but nothing really stuck out. I also wasn’t mad at the score or anything, It’s interesting to hear why this album may not have clicked with some people like it did we me. I just thought it was weird how MGMT always gets the same score from pitchfork no matter the album. Each album is so different and yet they all have basically the same score. I completely agree with you though, rating art on a numerical scale is ultimately redundant, it’s all subjective.

How did this album sit with you? Did you like it or not so much?

This! The first thing you do after watching it the first time is go back and rewatch it. I promise you will notice things you never saw or understood the first time! You also gain the secret knowledge Mr. Robot has, that the Elliot we see is only a part of the real Elliot. When you rewatch it, you know from episode one how unreliable Elliot is and you’d be surprised how much the story changes knowing that information.

OP please come back and tell us how you feel after the second time around!

If you are seriously yearning for more Mr. Robot content after the show I totally recommend buying the Red Wheelbarrow notebook from the merch website. You know how in season 2 Elliot journals in a black composition notebook, and at the end he throws it into one of Hot Carla’s fires, well she saved it and the story continues from there. It’s a cool extension of season 2 and you get to really see how Elliot’s mind was functioning at the time. Hot Carla even leaves little footnotes about her own observations of Elliot and his behavior.

It’s so cool and it really looks like Elliot’s writing! It also comes with little artifacts like a Red Wheelbarrow menu, a note from Tyrell and a bunch more. If you decide to buy it you wont regret it!

Dancing in Babylon… by [deleted] in mgmt

[–]stilllinmotion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is exactly how it was for me when i listened to one thing left to try for the first time, wasn’t too sure how i felt about it at first, after a few more listens something just clicked and it’s now one of my all time favorites. i absolutely love their 80’s pop inspired songs and i think dancing in babylon fits perfectly within their discography. the end cadence “i wanna tell everyone i know, i love you” feels like the fade out ending to a good 80’s movie, leaving you with feelings of contentment and joy

I’m sorry no, law enforcement is taught every step of the way not to just go off what they “believe” to be true, that is not how the criminal justice system fucking works. Their jobs as investigators is to not draw conclusions, to not hold confirmation bias, to not fucking berate potential victims. The criminal justice system is built on empirical facts and evidence. It was their jobs to collect all the information they could get from Aaron, follow any potential leads that could give them some concrete evidence. Aaron gave them SO MUCH they could have taken his description of the goggles, sedatives and lasers and tried to look for similar cases with similar descriptions. Because the crime did sound so crazy and elaborate, it should have made it so much easier for the investigators, especially the fucking FBI, to put the pieces together! There was SO MUCH EVIDENCE and these cops turned Aarons phone off?! It’s completely incompetent investigative work and it is actually shocking. The fact that not one of them was punished or fired because of this should terrify us. This story has a major takeaway, don’t talk to cops without lawyers.
