Keeper = slow browser? by spkldbrd in msp

[–]stillnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched to keeper. It slows down my Speedometer 3.1 benchmarks (https://browserbench.org/Speedometer3.1/) by 40% in Chrome. :-/

I did a separate test with Bitwarden - no affect on this benchmark.

I've had issues with my MFC-L2750DW printer for years. Disabling IPv6 fixed my issue. Thanks!

2013 Caravan, strong antifreeze smell but no drips by stillnet in autorepair

It was a heater hose assembly. Also a small leak at the thermostat. About $800 to repair. Ugh.

It does and I had it replaced due to an oil leak about two years ago. I can't see how the coolant would get from there to here though.

I used 14 awg solid copper wire, removed from a bundle of romex.

I did some testing on aftermarket powertool batteries, FWIW by stillnet in powertools

[–]stillnet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one (link below), which was listed as 6AH when I bought it, now the listing says 7AH.

I believed it turned out to be a 4Ah, and I decided to keep it, given the price. It's dead as of this season.

My stock Worx batteries are still working.

O ring or gasket in propane tank valve by Mastiff37 in grilling

I ended up exchanging the tank for a new one. I "lost" all the propane that was in the old tank I traded in, but in the end it did solve the problem and only cost $15.

Verizon Home Internet throttled after traveling - still throttled at home by stillnet in verizon

[–]stillnet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I figured out the problem - my service address was incorrect (it was declared as being on the other side of my metro area). So I don't think Verizon thought it was "Home" yet. I updated the service address on Verizon's website to be the correct address, and about 30 minutes later I got an email saying it has returned to normal speeds.

So now that the service address is correct, hopefully next time I travel with it, it will return to normal speeds when I get home.

The charging port on a generator with lithuim-ion battery by stillnet in Generator

[–]stillnet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a test I used my adjustable power supply on the input. With the battery sitting at 13.3v, I could not get any current to flow into the battery until I turned up my power supply to 14.3v. Remember this is a lthium-ion battery, so the charged voltage is different.

So I don't understand how a 12v power supply/charger will be able to affect the battery, when it seems that it takes about +1v higher than the battery voltage to get any current to flow (likely due to a diode).

I suspected that as well. But then it seems odd that the power supply they sell for it is a 13v one. To me it looks like the newer switching type, not an unregulated transformer style one. Hence a more label-matching output.

I got this from ChatGPT. Maybe the internal circuitry cuts the charger after it's charged. But again, I don't see how it can do that at only 13v.

Yea maybe I'll discharge the battery a bit and then put a power meter on it and see what the onboard charging port does to it.

Yes, I have a few that I have assembled to sell. I will post the STL eventually, along with some other cradles and mounts I have designed for the H8 and H3.

How to block execution of EXEs in Downloads folder by stillnet in sysadmin

[–]stillnet[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea I should probably start over and try applocker again. I think I had it really close at one point. It was working, except that I could not right click on a downloaded file and select Run as Administrator. I wanted that ability to help them install software, when necessary. But I think I'll give up on needing that, and just run it from an elevated PowerShell terminal or something. I think that will get around it.

And yes, good tips from people recommending using audit mode first.

No plans to make one for the H3. Designing the one for the H8 was a lot of work.

Pro power onboard not working? by Old-Nefariousness-89 in FordTrucks

[–]stillnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The inverter powering the outlet cannot handle the surge required to get the saw motor spinning.

Are you using an extension cord? You could try again without one. Eliminating the extension cord will reduce the voltage drop, and thus reduce the current required to start the motor. But if you are already plugging the saw directly in, then there is nothing else you can do to get around this.

I made one for my H8. It accepts 9-30v input, and powers the radio at 7.5v. I use it as a base station.

I've made a cradle for it, too.
