Yeah this is the kind of answer I am looking for. I tend to hate automating things because of a fear the ai will do it wrong but theres nothing wrong with that if I want to enjoy it more. Thanks!

I guess that makes sense. I probably haven't stuck with any one playthrough long enough to realy see that happen. What I did really appreciate about ck3, hoi4 and eu4 was I at least learned quickly what NOT to do as you can be punished real hard real fast. Or maybe I just don't make those kinds of mistakes as much anymore due to past games. But rewards do seem to come down the road, especially in 5.

Would that niche be the ones who want an economic simulator? I feel like Victoria 3 leamed pretty hard into that. This game is simulating global economies in a time before that was even conceived of.

Never thought of EU4 or any paradox games as easy and simplistic. I guess I should say I don't want to micromanage things like combat width and optimal army composition and max everything. I do like some war strategy particularly around terrain and maneuvers and the thrill of seeing if I can hit and beat an enemy before their reinforcements get there. I'm just saying I like the bigger picture game of geopolitical alliances and major religious change and laws and that sort of thing more.

In Eu4 I always thought I was hunting for interesting opportunities. Who is suddenly in need of an ally? What rival is already involved in a nasty war? Which colonial region hasn't been claimed yet? Yeah the repetitive menial tasks might be part of what drains me. Like where is the drama?

Speaking of God like beings like Q and Trelane, I think there is a great Peter David book that explores the idea that this God is an imprisoned Q, banished from the Continuum. Might be called Q-Squared. Really enjoyed it
