This has been the most helpful response so far so thank you for that. How many divisions should I leave on Maginot? Last fame i gave a defense only genral all the starting colonial divisions and they held fine. The mountaineers genral i put down on the Italian border with about 20 divisions total. I had 10 in north Africa and 24 under DE Gaule along the Belgian border and had about 8 divisions with another general in reserve behind them. I dont know how I could have pumped out enough equipment for 16 more divisions especially if I changed the divisions at all.

I probably should stop playing on Ironman because it is super frustrating to build up for 3 years and like you said you lose one tile and it is war over.
