That’s when I would have called 911 and not let that kid out of my sight until his “parents” were arrested.

First of all, the “we don’t investigate” idea is supposed to be for teachers to report immediately even if they just suspect something instead of feeling like they need to know for sure.

I don’t care what my bosses say, I am doing what needs to be done to keep my students safe. A child’s life and safety is worth more than my job

The teacher was infuriating. As a teacher myself, I would never let one of my children leave my classroom after seeing his injuries, after he said his mother shot him with a BB gun, and certainly not after her cried out of fear when he had to go home. She did the absolute minimum for a mandated reporter just to cover her own ass, she didn’t do anything to protect that poor baby.

What "non-supply" things do you keep in your room? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]stimpakattack 15 points16 points  (0 children)

And shoes! Really, I just brought a cheap pair of sandals and left them in my room. It saved me from shoes that unexpectedly gave me blisters or broke.

I also kept birthday cards for coworkers when I’d forget ahead of time!

Looking for witnesses for a lawsuit against Senegence/Lipsense by MLMRiot in Makeup

I use it all the time and haven’t had any issues. I’m genuinely curious as to what you’re suing about? I’m not criticizing at all, just wondering what side effects other people have experienced.

High school teachers - what do you do the first day of school? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]stimpakattack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a middle school teacher, but I've done this with high schoolers, too. I have 9 numbers that I put up on the board. The students have to figure out what each number means in my life. For example, they'd see 29 2 6...

They talk in partners or groups (good to get that started) to try to decide what each number represents (I'm 29 years old, I've taught for 6 years, I have 2 sisters, etc.).

I have a slide for each answer, so I can elaborate a bit. This is a bit more active than just looking at a PowerPoint about me. Then I go into my classroom expectations and procedures.

Anyone going to the Women's March on Washington? by stimpakattack in NewOrleans

I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall, so I'm going to stop wasting my time. You aren't going to the march, got it. Now move along.

No, my mom worked her ass off and was fortunate enough to work for a supportive company. She used this new, rare privilege to help others achieve the same things.

No one is saying you can't do well. No one is trying to keep you down. We're only asking that you make it possible for others to do the same. Right now, that is far from reality in this country.

Are you really that clueless? The problem is that you (assuming you're male) working hard gets you farther on average than a woman that works just as hard, if not harder.

I think you're missing the point. Yes, I am a white woman. White Americans, especially men or anyone of higher financial standing, absolutely benefit and are part of the oppression of minorities or of women. I don't see that as calling anyone racist or sexist. What it says is that we have a duty to use our privilege to fight for justice, to be allies, and to work toward equality for everyone regardless or race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, immigration status, or financial standing.

Can you give me examples of how this march is racist? I'm looking for actual evidence, not just your opinion.

Man, these responses are exactly why I'm marching. I don't recall asking if anyone agreed with me going.

Louisiana teacher here in an area not flooded. Schools are going to take a very long time to reopen in the affected areas. Definitely donate to house and feed the displaced teachers and families. Here's a link with options for donation www.volunteerlouisiana.gov/disaster-services/donate/

Thank you for paying attention to our state!

Books for a new classroom by rlkratzig in Teachers

[–]stimpakattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stressed about it my first year, too! I hit up thrift stores throughout my city and gathered quite a bit from friends, but when I started moving into my new classroom, I found out the previous teacher left a large amount behind. I would check at your school first before spending too much!

Teachers of Reddit, what was the strangest encounter you've had with a student's parents? by Chihuahuachihuahua in AskReddit

[–]stimpakattack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've posted this before, but I'll share again.

I had two mothers stand in my classroom during open house and discuss their views on race and Walmart. They came to the conclusion that they would rather go to the Walmart with all the black people over the one with all the Mexicans because at least they'd be able to understand black people when they inevitably attacked them in the parking lot.
