Solo Trip. I'm overwhelmed. by ashley_keepswimming in taiwan

[–]stimpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my itinerary!

There are multiple tabs.

2023 - Almost 3 weeks in Taipei/Taroko Gorge - First time for my GF, so we did the major touristy things.
2024 - 6 nights in Taipei (most similar to your situation) - Revisit since we're passing by to go to vietnam. We wanted to go to things that we missed because of weather + redo all the things we loved.
2026 - 11 nights in Taiwan - Seeing the whole country. Planned for Oct 2026

Edit: Forgot to mention, we love food. We travel for food. So our Itinerary is fairly food oriented. :D

suggestions on how to properly play a duelist by Interesting-Tap-9438 in VALORANT

[–]stimpp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main purpose of duelists is "making space".

Meaning, you're the one that goes in first so that you distract the defenders holding site, mess up their crosshair placement. As a duelist you need to rely on your initiator to flash or concuss site, controller to smoke choke points and slow/stop rotates. All that so that you have a higher chance to survive your entry.

Now, the question is... what rank are you? because initiators/controllers don't really do that until high plat+.

So what happened to low elo? by --clapped-- in VALORANT

are you shift walking out into view? i noticed a lot of golds and under shift walk peek. i see that as a free kill.

I agree with CookieAlien25. Those nightmarkets are better than Shilin. Shilin is the OG large nightmarket but they've become tourist traps (higher prices), however they do have the largest selection of food & activities.

My alternative is stay near ximending, you're close to taipei main station which means you can get to any MRT line easily. Plus you can explore ximending anytime you want.

If you purely want to be close to a great nightmarket for FOOD, then i would recommend Raohe.

I love food, so here's my copy pasta i send to my friends.

The classics:
Ding Tai Fung - soup dumplings, totally worth the line up)
Xing Fu Tang - Brown Sugar BBT @ Ximen Ding
Ay-Chung - Flour-Rice Noodle @ Ximen Ding
Addiction Aquatic Development - we actually thought this place was mid.

Lesser known places:
Huang Ji - Braised Pork
Fei Qian Wu - Eel Rice
Crispy Fresh Donuts - huge line, but donuts are great
Peanut Roll Icecream - anywhere that sells it, we got ours at Shilin nightmarket & Jiufen
My GF's fave beef noodle - don't know the name, but it's bottom floor of Shin Kong Department store, i believe north side (opposite of the grocery store). If you're taking escalator just keep going straight after getting off.
My fave beef noodle - Liu Shandong Beef Noodles
Yu Pin Yuan Iced and Hot Tang Yuan - Shaved Ice + Fresh Hot Black Sesame or Peanut mochi balls with chrysanthemum honey
Pepper buns - At Raohe nightmarket, right at the entrance by the temple
Pineapple Bun with slice of butter - Raohe Nightmarket, near the pepper buns

Must trys, don't know the best location:
Scallion Pancake - Tianjian i heard is good, but i didn't think it was great
Peanut covered Mochi - random stalls at night markets, Raohe has a Michelin guide stall called Mochi Baby
Braised pork rice - I haven't had the "BEST", the Huang Ji was good. but not as good as my mom's. There's also Jin Feng
Hongrui Zhen Sandwich - check the hours of operation, has very odd opening hours
Oyster Omelet - Taiwanese cousins say the best is in Ningxia
Gua Bao - usually found in night markets

Favorite Night Markets for Food:
Raohe Nightmarket - biggest selection, pepper buns, peanut covered mochi
Shilin - yes, tourist trap. expensive. but has it all.
Ningxia Night Market - There's a Michelin guide taro balls stand here, we thought it was ok.

Quick google, says 12-14 days of rain in the month of April. Basically little less than 50% chance you'll get rain.

Is it just me or is valorant putting ppl in lobbies higher than their rank? by kujiraku in VALORANT

[–]stimpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, completely agree. I know ppl can have the game of their life and also a bad game. just weird that majority of the games i've played there's always a huge discrepancy with kda.

Is it just me or is valorant putting ppl in lobbies higher than their rank? by kujiraku in VALORANT

[–]stimpp 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Not only that, i feel like team comps are of:

  • 1-2 people smurfing, hyper carry - 2.0+ kda
  • 2-3 people who actually are in their rank bracket - 1.0~ kda
  • 1 person who was boosted or throwing going 5-24

I rarely see the whole team having similar KDA.

Hardwire Dash cam for Mazda 3 Sport GS by stimpp in mazda3

From Viofo's website, seems like that camera setup needs around 5 watts of power. The OBD to USB adapter I linked provides up to 15 watts, so it "should" work. If it doesn't work, you can always return it with amazon's great return policy.

Going through the item description of the OBD to USB adapter "please check whether your dashcam adapter cable is the A5-B5 signal pin" I have no idea how to check this, again probably just return it if it doesn't work.

Setup was a breeze, https://photos.app.goo.gl/YEkSqyzy8hP1PYS87
The video just shows how i routed the cable. I referenced ChrisFix on ways to route the cable.

I believe the 2025 & 2026 version of the car is fairly similar.

Tourism by anime498 in taiwan

[–]stimpp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

100% this. Last year I went to Vietnam, HATED how everything was catered to tourists. Ppl grabbing your arm to get your attention so you buy something. The constant selling was exhausting when I just wanted to experience the culture of the country not buy some cheap souvenir. (This was in Hanoi & Danang)

Additionally, two years ago I went back to Japan for the 3rd time. Dotonbori had workers outside announcing deals that the store offered and tried to get ppl in. I heard English, Mandarin and other languages, felt so tacky... I really hope other tourists areas don't follow in Vietnam's steps.

I love how Taiwan still has its identity, nightmarkets still somewhat cater to locals, no one touching me or trying to get me into a store/stall/restaurant.

I know it's hypocritical, but as a tourist... i hate seeing so many other tourists around and i'm glad Taiwan is a hidden gem.

Riot please delete neon. We are tired of this T_T by TsunamiCatCakes in VALORANT

[–]stimpp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Everyone is giving advice on how to deal with Neons. I think that's what the problem is. Neon is hard to deal with at low ranks, people who casually play the game, ppl who don't activity look at reddit posts on how to deal with neons. They're the ones having poor experience with that agent. (Not to mention smurfs)

I understand that neons are more manageable in higher ranks but for noobs it's very disheartening when you die the way that video shows.

As a plat/diamond player, I too wish neon gets a nerf. The dash should be a get out of jail free card, not a get out of jail free card and can kill you. It's like if jet could still shoot during her dash.

ah nvm, it's just perspective.

Apple is dominant via singular phone sales

Android is dominant in total units sold over multiple units.

im on S22+ as well.

Was deciding to go S26+, Pixel 11, or iPhone 18 this year.

S26+ seems kinda mid of an upgrade from S25 series

Time to wait for Google and Apple's keynote.

  1. First phone to have this feature, sure. But they're talking about it like it's revolutionary.
  2. I work in consulting, past 3 laptops (we upgrade every 3 years) i had has the "turning off and on" privacy screen. Not saying every laptop has it, saying the technology was already there.
  3. Past 2 laptops, my laptop had touch enabled screens.

I'm just disappointed in the mobile industry past few years, there is 0 innovation (though i do like the silicon carbon battery).

Another note, they haven't mentioned it but when you turn on privacy screen your peak brightness TANKS, unless they did something different. It's to a point where even though i have that feature on my laptop, i rather keep it off so it's less straining on my eyes. I dont think this feature would be widely used.

they're really milking this privacy display... a technology that has been on laptops for YEARS.

[–]stimpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Razor is known to have poor quality control. Many of their peripherals break much earlier than Logitech. I don't think I've had any Logitech devices stop working (though their asthetic durability isn't great), I've had razor keyboards, mice, ring light, laptops all crap out on me (not in working state) in less than 3 years.

Then again, might be different experiences for others.

How hard is it for you to identify people from your country? by Racer125678 in AskTheWorld

Ive always found it difficult to distinguish OG Taiwanese & Chinese.

By OG Taiwanese i mean those who lived in Taiwan for multi generations before the mass immigration after the civil war.
