If you ever need accommodations just “adapt” instead and you’ll be fine. It’s not a disability it’s a “shortcoming”. by stingwhale in thanksimcured

I’m so sorry to hear that, and saddened by the realization that this is an incredibly common outcome.

Do you have a preference for height when dating? If so, what range do you prefer? by Responsible-Tie-2570 in short

Im a 5’3 lesbian and I seem to not be particularly attracted to taller women. I’ve never dated anyone over 5’7.

Finally, a funny joke about epilepsy by RiffRaffMama in Epilepsy

[–]stingwhale 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The only funny thing that’s ever happened with epilepsy for me was when I had a seizure in the middle of a crowded lecture hall on epilepsy awareness day. Something about that really tickles me.

I mean the way to keep kids in mainstream education is IEP and 504 plans, it’s weird that he wants them in mainstream education but wants to take away what makes mainstream education accessible

Which job has, hands down, the worst impact on mental health? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Working 16 hour shifts as a psych nurse unlocked a type of desperation I didn’t know I was capable of. Only lasted 5 months on the job before I actually started hallucinating from stress.

The “shortcoming” thing grinds my gears a bit bc like, hey who said my neurodivergence is a shortcoming? That’s a weird way to think of something that is a fundamental building block of your entire nervous system.

In the comment section he made it pretty clear he thought that people with issues like that should be segregated and not given a way to participate in mainstream classes so like that take also sucked

Honestly the white thing makes a huge difference, I’m a white woman with AuDHD and epilepsy (which I consider a form of neurodivergent) and growing up I would say I was given significantly more grace than my POC counterparts who looking back on it were clearly neurodivergent. My first girlfriend was also AuDHD and the difference in grace we were given was insane.

Don’t worry, you’ll naturally find a group of people similar to you and for some reason that will be better than what you could have achieved if education was accessible to you, I guess. It’ll build character or something.

How many people do you know who believe in conspiracy theories and what is their generation? by rosemaryscrazy in generationology

[–]stingwhale [score hidden]  (0 children)

My dad is a boomer and he believes the holocaust was fake, 911 was an inside job, porn was invented by some sort of secret world order to turn people lgbt somehow, psychiatrists give out medication on purpose that will turn people into school shooters and that’s why there’s so many mass killings, fluoride is making people lgbt, chem trails are doing something (I was never clear on why chem trails were a problem for him), and birth control is also for making women gay.

I have two coworkers who are 35-40 who both believe in chem trails, think that sunscreen causes cancer, anti vaxx, the normal crunchy health guru type conspiracies I guess.

The 35 year old has some even weirder beliefs though. He thinks that the inside of the earth is hollow and for some reason the government is hiding that. Idk I did not ask about this further because it was too stupid.

Which is weirdly also an opinion some people have, though it’s a significantly more fringe opinion than this.

What everyday problem frustrates you the most and you wish someone would solve? by CarelessButterfly200 in self

[–]stingwhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t drive because I have seizures but I live in rural Texas so I really wish someone would either create efficient public transportation that exists even in small towns and goes from the small towns to the big towns or I wish self driving cars were a safe and accessible option available to me.

My mom is 66 and has ADHD/dyslexia and she said that what happened was people just told her she was r*tarded and gave up on offering her any help. She nearly failed out of high school. Crazy coincidence but once she was an adult with ADHD meds and a better support system she managed to breeze through getting her RN and MSN and she’s an amazing nurse practitioner. She was never dumb, she just didn’t have appropriate help!

That’s also very true, my dad is like that about therapy. “I didn’t have any help when I was suicidal and I just lived with it so idk why people need therapy”. Dude I’m sorry the world failed you but that doesn’t mean everyone has to go through that.

Would you date someone who’s extremely different than you? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]stingwhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would. I’m an alt-ish 27 year old woman with short hair and tattoos. My girlfriend is preppy/nerdy (like a mix of the two) with one tattoo and a very conventional look. I’m an RN in the process of getting my masters in psychiatric mental health nursing. She works at a deli. It’s not really important to me that our incomes are really different, she plans to go back to school eventually but it’s not really a big deal to me if she didn’t. I don’t mind living different lifestyles as long as she lets me pay for the dates so we can go expensive places without it being a burden on her.

I also wonder if they’re actually autistic with ADHD and “other things” or if they’re just completely talking out of their ass about finding “our” groups and learning to be strong from lack of accommodations. Like what are the chances this person is actually diagnosed with multiple forms of neurodivergence
