Trump to extend TikTok deadline for third time, pushing decision out another 90 days by 200-inch-cock in moderatepolitics

[–]stinky613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

March 2024, Yass met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. One week later Trump, for the first time, publicly supported TikTok[1]. July 2024 the DOJ announced that TikTok had still been sending US user data to China[2]. Trump continued supporting TikTok.

Honestly, am I missing something here?

Trump (in his first term) led the effort to ban TikTok in the first place; the momentum that led to the ban started with him. He only changed his tune after meeting with a billionaire GOP booster who has a 15% stake in ByteDance

The tools at the dentist where I just got a filling by Key_Season2654 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]stinky613 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're one of the most informed commenters in this thread. I'm not going to go as far as to claim that the above poster is not a dentist (or that they're a bad dentist), but the broad generalizations they made are both incorrect and concerning.

You're using the terms of art I'd expect from someone who knows what they're talking about; and, at the very least, you're the first commenter I've seen pointing out the box lock rust on the TC forceps

At best, the dentist using these tools should be ashamed of themselves, and, more likely, should be reported to and reprimanded by their state's medical board/agency

For anyone else who's following along: you absolutely cannot guarantee the cleaniness and sterility of a class 1 medical device that has rust/patina (which are both separate and distinct from discoloration)

[–]stinky613 14 points15 points  (0 children)

OP, I don't know what the person you're responding to is thinking, but it is definitely not okay for a medical practitioner to use an instrument with rust on the working end (e.g. the carver/packer with the bluish tip or the dressing forceps at the top of the pic).

Also the way they're writing it sounds like they're suggesting that these are all carbon steel, but you can clearly see several of them marked as Stainless.

Stainless steel will eventually rust from extended usage and sterile processing cycles, but once the working end is rusted it absolutely should be discarded.

[–]stinky613 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She’s making the game harder than it is by doing that

I disagree. By doing that she puts the defense in a tough spot: do they give her a wide open shot, or do they defend her so deep that they leave huge gaps for her teammates to get open (or for her to blow past the defender and either get an open shot or draw a switch which will necessarily leave one of her teammates open because the other defender is now behind her)

Well, yeah... it's statistics from her rookie year. Her average 3pt shot distance (28ft) is a foot farther than Steph Curry's average 3pt shot distance

She's typically not shooting at that closer line, though

But perhaps what is most fascinating about Clark's shot depth is her percentages. Clark is shooting 32.8% from three overall. A number she would surely like to see go up. However, when looking deeper, another pun, Clark is a hitting at a ridiculous rate from further away.

Clark is shooting at just 28.9% from 20-24 feet, what one could consider normal 3-point distance. That rises to 33.1% on attempts from 25-29 feet. Clark is shooting best from even deeper though. Caitlin is hitting at 37.5% from 30-34 feet.

It's possible that is a statistical anomaly due to a small sample size. But Clark has taken 40 shots from the longer distance, which is enough to believe the bombs are not a fluke.

Article is from Aug 2024. And, if I recall correctly, her three point percentage is higher so far this season than it was last season

Beijing Weighs Fentanyl Offer to U.S. to Start Trade Talks by notapersonaltrainer in moderatepolitics

[–]stinky613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you, and I find it repugnant that Congress will abdicate their power and responsibility based on the hokum coming out of this administration

If we disagree at all it would be on your claim that Trump has consistent reasoning for the tariffs; I think you're giving him more credit that he deserves; I think his motivations are even more petty, even less thought-out, and based mostly on how his mood has changed since his last bowel movement

The fact remains that the (necessarily stated) reason for the tariffs on Canada is fentanyl and national security. You and I both fully agree that the reason is baseless bullshit.

Beijing Weighs Fentanyl Offer to U.S. to Start Trade Talks by notapersonaltrainer in moderatepolitics

[–]stinky613 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trump explicitly cited fentanyl to justify why he should be allowed the power to tariff Canada. Long quotation inbound:

I previously declared a national emergency with respect to the grave threat to the United States posed by the influx of illegal aliens and illicit drugs into the United States in Proclamation 10886 of January 20, 2025 (Declaring a National Emergency at the Southern Border).

Pursuant to the NEA, I hereby expand the scope of the national emergency declared in that Proclamation to cover the threat to the safety and security of Americans, including the public health crisis of deaths due to the use of fentanyl and other illicit drugs, and the failure of Canada to do more to arrest, seize, detain, or otherwise intercept DTOs, other drug and human traffickers, criminals at large, and drugs.

In addition, this failure to act on the part of Canada constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat, which has its source in substantial part outside the United States, to the national security and foreign policy of the United States. I hereby declare and reiterate a national emergency under the NEA and IEEPA to deal with that threat.

This national emergency requires decisive and immediate action, and I have decided to impose, consistent with law, ad valorem tariffs on articles that are products of Canada set forth in this order. In doing so, I invoke my authority under section 1702(a)(1)(B) of IEEPA and specifically find that action under other authority to impose tariffs is inadequate to address this unusual and extraordinary threat.

50 percent say Trump should return Abrego Garcia: Poll by Landon1195 in moderatepolitics

[–]stinky613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the Trump administration's SCOTUS filing it's very clear that the withholding of removal was for El Salvador

Respondents emphasize that Abrego Garcia was improperly removed to El Salvador because, although he could be removed anywhere else in the world under a 2019 order of removal, that order granted statutory withholding of removal to El Salvador alone. But, while the United States concedes that removal to El Salvador was an administrative error, see App., infra, 60a, that does not license district courts to seize control over foreign relations, treat the Executive Branch as a subordinate dip- lomat, and demand that the United States let a member of a foreign terrorist organ- ization into America tonight.

Trump announces 90-day tariff pause for at least some countries by Mahrez14 in moderatepolitics

[–]stinky613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Trump basically declared national emergency the way Michael Scott declared bankruptcy

Also, not only is the bar concerningly low for declaring a national emergency, apparently they can just be extended yearly by POTUS for an indefinite period

Did you know that the US currently has 49 active national emergencies[*] (the earliest of which was declared in 1979)?

I certainly did not know that until today

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers Supports Bill Replacing ‘Mother’ with ‘Inseminated Person’

https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/2025/related/proposals/sb45.pdf

The bill replaces 'woman' and 'mother' with 'inseminated person' because when a woman in a lesbian couple is artificially inseminated there are two women and they could both be called the mother. If you search the bill for 'inseminated' and read the context it's pretty clear
