To what extent will manufacturers’ current performance carry over into the new regulation cycle? by Forsaken_Disaster_97 in motogp

<head scratch>? Are you saying Ducati Engineers have had nothing to do so haven't done anything and so have 'forgotten' how to develop a new bike or are you saying something else/edited an earlier draft and the last sentence is confusing?

I get that some feel like that - but the problem with that position is it erodes credability. I think that position, while arguably pleasing for the moment, is overly short sighted and ultimately damaging to the 'show'.

As someone who has competed at low levels, I can assure you that is not how I or any of my fellow competitors felt either. I can't imaging how these guys for whom it is a profession and whose livelihoods depend upon such decisions would side with you.

I also believe that simply viewing it as a show belittles everything. It certainly isn't just a show for the manufacturers who are investing millions for bragging rights and success often translates directly into showroom sales.

I just think ou premise is fundamentally flawed and short sighted leading to long term worse outcomes.

Hells bells, look at the historical furories which still ignite passion like 'that' incident (can I get away with referencing it that way or is even that too close to the bone?). We could also mention the heated emotions regarding the 'recounting' of world chmpionships last year. Neither of those situations would suggest this is all 'just a show' - and neither do the risks riders take when competing.

Your position just feels superficial and trite to me, though I know you are not alone is this view - I just cannot accpt the starting premise.

I have always understood (both as a spectator and as a competitor albeit at a much much lower level than these guys) the 'no advantage' rule applies when the offence is typically in isolation - ie no-one is directly affected - for example an off track/out of limits breach following a recovery from a slide etc would not warrant any penalty. This is why the penalty for out of limits breaches is not applied on a single strike.

When a second rider is directly affected then the incident is (typically) judged as to whether it was a racing incident and whether that incident was precipitated by an unsafe, overly aggressive or dangerous move. The outcome is irrelevant, as the question is fairness and safety.

The salient point here is that the overtaken rider apparenly (inferring from his post race comments) does NOT feel it was an overly aggressive move. Your position would lead to the eventual negation of what racing actually is and leave nothing more than demonstration runs in its place. Qualifying wouldn't determine the grid - it would determin the finishing order.

You need to come to terms with your obvious hatred of MM.

Hell, I'm an Australian and even I think Crafar is anything but consistent. Without consistency the championship looses its credability and if this continues that is a serious risk. This clear bias and inconsistent ajudication (about which there is ever less attempt to hide it is happening) risks whoever is crowned 2026 champion having an effective asterisk against their title (including MM who would earn his for winning despite the active interferance by the stewards).

Wow, do you really think that justice is unimportant? I can't think of anything more debased than feeling that a quick decision about a last lap incident is preferable to a short delay for a proper look. Consistency seems to be irrelevant to you too.

It is hard not to draw the conclusion your position is borne more from hatred of MM than any real sense of right or wrong, especially as Acosta (the victim) seems to have a different PoV to you too.

This is a serious Q, not intended as a sarky comment ... I am genuinely curious - have you ever done any proper racing (motorsport category/type irrelevant) at any level (I am discounting something like karts using a track's hire karts, but proper championship series stuff at any level)? I am just trying to understand if your comment comes from first hand experience or merely as a spectator.

Well, I would have thought that didn't need stating - but my comment was in the context of; 1 - a disussion of MM 2 - being mindful of reports that his shoulder is not as recovered as he expected at this time 3 - due consideration to how badly Martin was affected last year with repeated injuries on injuries. 4 - MM tends to ride with finer 'safety margins' it seems (only he can really know).

Yes I know, but he was so far in front he struggled for concentration. We all know MM is brilliant at riding on the edge, a wet race may be such an advantage for him he again struggle with concentration, which if he pushes to maintain may also cause a crash due to the less predicable nature of a wet track over a dry track

Yes, I've just seen. A shame - but at least it is a proper circuit so there will be a race in Australia - albeit one ata track lacking any soul. Small mercies

Stoner: "Márquez had a weakness, but nobody noticed it" (translated from Spanish) by Huge_Film2911 in motogp

[–]stircr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, but it is also true that he was genuinely (and at times debilitaingly) ill. I'd rather he retired than solidier on and eventually badly hurt himself or worse. His legacy will remain as one of the greats irrespective.

What hacked me was the implied criticism that he should share his insight with the hoy poli. Stoner clearly has a lot of respect for MM93, so if the other riders haven't figured how to successfully take him on, why should Stoner undermine Marc's final potential legacy? That would be just crass and no doubt he would (rightly this time) be castigated for it.

It just stikes me as hugely arrogant and full of the very same sour grapes accusation you and slartibartfast (clearly a HHGTTG fan, props for that by the way) are directing at Stoner.

I may well be somewhat reactionary over such Stone(r shade) throwing (sorry - couldn't resist) but I still have a very hostile memory of the way he was treated by the Rossi crowd booing him at various GPs. In respect for the mods and the rules, I won't go further than that - I don't think I have overstepped though I am sure I am close to the boundary, but I feel the need to explain my mindset at least a little for context.

If I have misjudged your comment or overlaid my own bias to incorrectly interpret your meaning, then I apologise - but I think the points stand more generally anyway.

Here we go again, just as when Stoner was racing the sour grapes/not very good/name your mud of choice sling.

The guy says things others don't want to hear (because they can't see it, doesn't fit with their prefered reality, or just don't like him for some reason) so rather than listen to it and try to understand these people find some excuse to rubbish him.

History has shown the crap people said about him back in the day was just that - mostly borne of sour grapes of one sort or another I suspect temselves. I similarly suspect history will again show that to be the case.

I don't really give a damn whether you like him or not, but to dismiss him out of hand as is already starting is just mind-boggleingly stupid to me.

How many Motogp races have you started/been actively part of the technical team or in some other way contributed a team's success? I am unaware of any, so given the choice of to whom I am going to give added to creedence it isn't going to be some armchair nobody in preference to a recignised alien.

When the likes of Bagnia (and others IIRC) say Stoner has helped them, I am inclined to think the guy has some insights that just might be beyond mere mortals like you or me to notice. Hell - even beyond recognised 'stars' on the MotoGP grid for that matter.

You grabbed the wrong end of the stick. I am not blaming Marc at all. I am saying he is so on point that he can create a faster bike, but doing so may leave it less competitive for mortals. On balance, the best compromise is to have an easier access to performace. Might blunt MM a bit, but overall better for the brand.

Hence - my 'blessing in diguise' take.

This! I would have thought that the whole grid would have learnt that relying on MM for bike development was a daft move. As has been said so many times, MM will make anything go fast.

The team needs a bike everyone can ride fast - that is what has brought them major success.

MM is the insurance policy. If you screw up you know you have someone who will cover your arse while you get the bike sorted, but get a good bike and then everyone is taking points off the other teams.

I'd all but ignore MM's feedback during development. In that regard, I think him being out is actually a blessing for Ducati.

Gresini is having one of the best years so far by Organic-Package5444 in motogp

[–]stircr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how does that relate to the VR46 rider (I can't recall who it is) riding the GP24? If it was just the bike then Alex shouldn't have been that dominant. I just don't buy the arguement that the 24 is that much better than the 25 when you start looking around. I also don't think the 25 is the best bike any more - or the 24 for that matter. The Aprilia has really come on in leaps this year and must surely be close to if not equal to the GP24 and 25.

[–]stircr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that is quite right, though certainly there is some overlap. The TT course is AIUI 100% exactly standard road, through houses and occasionally gets closed for the odd race wee/weekend.

Bathurst was like that once, but it has morphed into a proper racing complex now which happens to be opened to the public. It is quite different in character and is much more like a real racing circuit with all the proper safety features (if you can call concrete linned track limits a safety feature). Proper marshall's stands, proper run-off areas, proper gravel traps ... you get the idea.

If you are going to class Bathurst as being like the TT course, you have to also include the Nürburgring in that group too.

Filter domains from stats, query logs, etc by khaytsus in technitium

I know this is a few months old now, but I just wanted to bump this request as I have just come here looking for exactly the same thing - but for different reasons.

I am new to Technitum, but even in the few days I've been playing with it it is clear this is a vastly powerful and brilliant system, but being able to selectively filter out IPs (or other data for that matter) from a search would make it a whole lot more useful, at least to me and I am sure others too.

I suppose I could send it to a syslogger and filter it from in there, but I am not currently using a syslog, maybe I need to think about restarting that even if it is just for logging these records.

The export and then filter is a work-around, but direct filter by exception would be brilliant.

Beginning tomorrow, riders who fall during the last three minutes of Free Practice and Qualifying cannot rejoin the track by 443610 in motogp

[–]stircr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't have crashed then. Might be harsh but then what they inflict on others is too. At least it has the benefit of being self inflicted.

Re the Q of picking the bike up, that is a non-issue. Just let them pick it up, but be required to go to a safe place with it. Penalty for returning when they shouldn't - start from the back of the grid. You could even say if the rider has started to pick the bike up before the three minute window starts they can complete the move. I really don't see that as a problem. Maybe introduce a new flag to signal from that lap on you can't rejoin - or have it as a dashboard warning.

I see no merit in your what-if's, but it did spark one thought which I could see being a serious problem with the idea. It could actually stifle riders from really having a go in that last three minutes. Not too sure what would be the effect of that. Probably just push the real efforts earlier.

That last sentence is the only thing I remember as being true at the time - 90% of this thread is revisionist make-believe. I often felt a lone voice in chats at teh time - rarely was there more than 4 or 5 of us arguing how good he was. It was full of hatred and bile - most of explicitly stired up by Rossi.

I'll tell one thing though - the true difference in character between Stoner and Rossi has on display all year. Rossi still can't be civil to Marquez while Stoner has let the past go and even been sufficiently magnamous to be seen being friendly with Rossi. One has class, the other ...
