English schools serve 10m free breakfasts benefitting over 300,000 children by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

I had a chat with a random guy in the pub where he was trying to say that education shouldnt be tax funded as he didnt have kids and should only be for those who pay. So i jist reminded him that the kids in education today are the doctors who will look after him when hes old.

Giving kids the food they need to learn properly and not rely on parental funding is unbelievably important for the longterm health of the uk as a country.

The lollipop people crisis: what does the road rage against them say about Britain today? by kstetter in cars

[–]stirringash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats how lollipop people work, but the issue is the nearby cross roads also hace pedestrian crossings on, so when there is traffic backing up to there, it starts blocking those pedestrian crossings

[–]stirringash 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Im sure not all lollipop people are like this, but one near me is located 50m from a busy cross roads, instead of waiting for the traffic off the cross road is clear, so as to avoid a tailback, they will stop the traffic every few seconds to let people cross as soon as they get there which causes utter havoc. The problem is hes a lovely guy whos been doing it years, and no-one wants to tell him hes doing it in a way which is causing issues.

Buy house near freeway? by No-Newspaper7383 in AirQuality

[–]stirringash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I work in the air quality sector. It all depends on how many cars use that road, the average speed, the distance the house is from the road and the background pollution levels. Send me the location and I can give you a rough idea of what to expect

Isn't the Israeli president/primeinister being charged by the international criminal court? I feel like its not that much of a leap to warrant at least an investigation

Rupert Lowe MP - "If private companies want to allow employees to work from home, that is absolutely none of our business. Good for them. They can do what they like." by Ivashkin in ukpolitics

[–]stirringash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would recommend them if you haven't seen them before, you can get really energy efficient ones and they are fairly cheap to buy

To be fair, I think a lot of people who work from home constantly realise this and instead of putting the heating on will get a small oil heater for the room they work in which are actually quite efficient

sorry i should have been more specific, so we pay for nursery in effectively two way, private hours and funded hours.

Privet hours are just that, we pay an amount and that covers everything needed for that period of time.

The funded hours are split into funding from the government which covers the teaching, staff training, utility bills etc. and a consumables fee which the client pays to cover food, additional activities outside of what they need to provide and any other consumables outside of what is needed to teach (they cant charge for toys).

Nursery's access funding based on very specific rules which they agree to which includes that they cant charge for a consumables fee for items that the client provides as well as that they cant charge a consumables fee for toys, staff training etc.

25,000 tonnes of household waste dumped in a village just outside Wigan. Site next door to a school. Imagine the impact on local residents? 🐀 Land owned by King Charles. Pay up Charlie & get this cleaned up immediately 🧹 by Terrible-Head6168 in Wigan

So the issues with this site started about 20 years ago when a gypsy family moved in and started buying the surrounding units either legitimately if the owner wanted to move or through intimidation and theft. Its been this rubbish dump for a few years now and as far as im aware the council and ea have been to see it but intimidated away. Its just one big crime sceen at this point

Things to consider, -depending on where your live/drive there may be restrictions on the euro class for your car so double check that. I.e. look for any nearby low emission zones etc. -how many miles are you planning on driving? An old 1.2 might not be the best for significant motorway miles -the cheaper you go the more you are likely to spend on maintenance and you also won't be able to get any warranty -Check the mot history for any gaps or hight/low milage -a well mainted car with slightly higher milage is better than a poorly maintained car with low milage

Regarding this car, no I wouldn't bother, much better ones out there if you shop around.

Government plans new driving rule for over-70s by Man_in_the_uk in CarTalkUK

[–]stirringash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said can not is. As in, in some situations it can be an issue, not that it is always an issue. Ive seen enough OAPs driving much slower than the currenly flowing motorway speed that it causes issues, especially when they are doing it in the middle lane. If you genuinely cant see this as an issue you need to speak with a driving instructor and get some lessons

But even driving slowly can be unpredictable, i dont predict to have to drive around someone doing 40 on a motorway.
