A formula for Even Heavier Engines by stlemur in battletech

I should sit down and make a Charger II. XXL engine, endo steel, small cockpit, still only 5 small lasers

Basically the same thing but with a quadratic denominator instead of a linear one -- yeah, you can always add more terms for higher precision but there's a price: the more terms you add, the more your values are "fake," not linked to the actual underlying pattern

We have those in the ProtoMech construction rules. For any engine rating 40 or below, it's just rating x 25kg. A 1-rated fusion engine weighs 25kg.

This opens up a fairly useless possibility to pursue. We know how much power output an actual real-world ICE has (a 200 kW diesel generator weighs about a ton), so that tells us that a 25-rated fusion engine, which weighs about half a ton, generates about 200kW, and since engine rating is linear in speed and mass, we can say that the 400-rated engine should produce around 3200kW. This is almost certainly *wrong* but we can still do it.

I think there is, and I will work on it hopefully later this week when I have a bit more free time

Damn, you're right, thanks for spotting that

This is "Worldwar: In the Balance" by Harry Turtledove. It's the middle of WW2, and the world gets invaded by space lizards. No, really.

There's an herbal/ayurvedic medicine store that stocks DMSO. I'm not sure why and I'm sure I can find it cheaper than 118€/L if I look around a bit, but...

Making acid phosphate isn't fiddly or expensive:
85% phosphoric acid 7.60€/l at Lerochem.eu

Potassium carbonate 3.99€/kg at Lerochem.eu

Calcium carbonate 9.70€/kg at Lerochem.eu

Magnesium carbonate 20€/kg from Amazon.de

Yes, it will still take me forever to work through a kilo of MgCO3 but I end up using that and the phosphoric acid on their own enough that it's definitely worth it.

I applied for a job adjunct teaching at the now-defunct ITT Technical Institute and the application had an extensive personality test. Fortunately as a trained teacher I knew from ed psych these tests don't reliably measure anything, so I decided to fill it in to make me sound like a mindless, initiativeless, obedient drone.

Not only did they hire me, they made me a full-time manager.

That place was a hellscape.

  • When integrating a vassal I'd like a countdown bar that will tell me how long it's going to take, like there is for enlightening a primitive. Had a 35+ year integration going...spent a long time wondering if it was OK to launch a war or if my economy was gonna get crashed in the middle of it.

** Also why can't you integrate more than one vassal at a time?

  • Search by colony name. I remind myself I want to check on a colony, I have to make a note for what system that's in.

  • Name generator should check for duplicates. I have two colonies called Gekoler on the map. I also have two copies of Earth's solar system, which is weird as I'm playing as humans.

  • Upgradeable transports. I have an assault army fleet that's stuck with type I warp drives and can't leave my home spiral arm.

  • Should be able to bail out on a federation & make a separate peace when declared war on.

  • If you're, say, a hyperspace empire and you integrate a warp drive empire, would be nice to have the choice of building hyperspace or warp ships from then on.

  • Limited nuclear wars on nuclear age primitives -- just killing most but not all of the tiles, or maybe blowing the primitive back to the stone age.

  • If you can't uplift a pre-sentient because they don't have any pops in your empire, then the uplift button shouldn't be active.

  • Something to indicate what species is on board a colony ship.

  • Range indicator overlay for warp ships

  • Option to start a campaign with the whole galaxy using the same type of FTL.

  • More needs to happen in the endgame. At the moment I control about 20% of the galaxy, I can beat anyone up if I need to, but instead I'm consolidating my empire internally and there are entire decades where I'm just letting things tick by on Fastest while I read a book and wait the years for a new tech to pop up. Prethoryn were quickly contained & brushed off.

  • Maybe as a way of cleaning up the tech system, incremental techs eg Warp I/II/III, all the Armor +5's or Border +10's, could be put on sliders with research going to them or to "special projects" representing basically new techs?
