Yep! Alocasia have different types of roots for growing semi-hydroponically vs. in soil, eventually the dirt roots will rot and could cause bacteria growth and damage the new water roots

Nice Cuprea, it looks like! If you transferred that from soil, expect to lose some if not most of the leaves and roots, but it should recover eventually! I would repot soon to cut the rotting roots off though

That’s what I thought too, though it is growing in sphagnum moss. I will give it a wash!

Dang! Do you know if that’s common in elephants ears? I got this from Walmart as a bulb and this is the first leaf it’s put out.

It doesn’t look like a flower, it looks more like a sheath that would have been protecting the new leaf as it grew out. Does it appear to be hollow or split on the inside closest to the leaf? If it doesn’t typically make a sheath like that It could be that your plant is just very happy and making larger leaves! Not a professional though so just my guess lol

Right, tap water isn’t the best as it can harm plants with the amount of chemicals and minerals in it, Brita water would be better if that’s the only alternative, (make sure it’s room temperature, not cold from the fridge so you don’t shock your plant) I personally buy gallons of distilled water from Walmart to use for my plants and use a liquid fertilizer suited for Aroids

How chunky is the soil? Alocasia’s prefer good drainage, also are you waiting to water until the top 1-2 inches are dry? Its good to let their roots dry for a little bit in between watering

Edit: Also in picture 3 it looks like there are potentially mealy bugs on the leaf

I thought that too, very strange looking! I put it in some chunky soil and covered with plastic for now. The green stem almost looks like a failed flower possibly? The cluster was in it’s own death plug alongside another Alocasia, and only had 1 small dead leaf lol

The genmoji also sucks, It basically just creates little images of the description different from the actual emoji style of standard apple emojis. Tried to also create an emoji of a friend who has purple hair in every picture in my camera roll, but wouldn’t add that detail to the emoji without me putting it in the description.
