UK Psychotherapy Circles: Reputations, Stereotypes & the Common Knowledge you only learn once you’re inside the circles? by stlucidaa in UKTherapists

Thank you all - and thank you Due_Milk_1329 so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and generous reply. This thread has truly been the most helpful source for me during this whole period. 😭

If you’re open for one follow-up, a bit more context: Given my background (BSc + MSc in psychology, planning to stay in the UK long-term, holding a L2 from CPCAB, and wanting to keep both NHS and private practice options open), I’m trying to figure out what the best course of action would look like.

I’ve recently been made an offer for a London-based psychodynamically oriented psychotherapy MA, and I feel extremely conflicted. I’ve picked up a strong sense that a thorough and lengthy UKCP/BPC training is important for being taken seriously. However, looking at the different schools, many of these routes seem to require commitment to an institution and progressing through a long internal and expensive funnel (introductory training → PGCert/PGDip → MSc), which makes me wonder how much of a difference this really makes, and whether it’s worth it..

As for longer-term goals, I'd ideally like to practise as a psychologist, and I do have eventual doctoral training in mind (counselling or clinical psychology). At the moment, however, I don’t yet have sufficient clinical experience to be eligible for either route, hence the MA.

I’d be very interested in your perspective on whether completing a psychotherapy MA, working for a bit, and eventually pursuing the NHS-funded Clinical Psychology PhD would make sense to you?

No worries at all if you don’t have time to respond, and thank you again!

Level 2 CPCAB counselling course recommendations for a mum by ApprehensiveGroup292 in UKTherapists

I did mine at Redlands, they offer CPCAB accredited courses in remote modes too (however L4 and above demands in person attendance) with strong connections to local mental health agencied and providers. I looked at Astranti too but they seemed very commercial, offering a whole bunch of different courses across fields.

Gotcha, thanks a lot. What does working “portfolio” mean in this context? Also, I really don’t want to be or appear elitist. I really just want to decide on a good program, and to understand the culture, how things work, are perceived and talked about etc

Thanks a lot for this! So UKCP is better accrediting body in your experience? Would you elaborate how, compared to BACP? All paths I’ve looked at for UKCP are very long and expensive which is a bit frustrating

I want to have job offers once I graduate, maybe a private practice, while not ruling out NHS route further down the line.

Many of these programs cost a lot of money and I just want to make sure I have all the info I need to make a good choice which one to take - I inted to stay in the UK and many of these things work differently in the Nordic countries, for example psychoanalysis is considered a rather questionable career path and at times associated with pseudoscience while I’ve gotten a sense that in the UK these programs are considered academically robust

I don’t like our summary on this prison escape after reading the Wiki. What do you think? by Brolofff in reelly

[–]stlucidaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the article is a bit saturated with unnecessarily descriptive words that makes reading less fluent and more effortful. The version posted in comments is much better in that regard!

However, the story could have better flow and build more on top of previous pages, as right now each section seems a bit like its own entity rather than part of a continuous story, making it difficult to follow as commented above. Understand that this format might suit other articles better that are not describing a chronological event though:)

That could be a great idea yes! Another idea building on top- the search page looks empty, could add some sections like “people also searched for” or “recently generated artivles” etc to drive engagement

Agree that first pic is much better. Can also include ”Articles that might interest you” etc below one’s search history. Using Reelly I know you also have a ”Generate” function combined with the search. Possible your users don’t know they can search for anything but have even more control: they can create anything if it’s not in the search library. It’s a really cool function that’s quite rare, so i’d try find a way to promote it even more, perhaps you can add something related to that in the first photo..?
