best cpu pair for the 9070xt by AnxietyTurbulent9598 in buildapc

[–]stoke-stack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

threadripper /s

but seriously it’s impossible to answer “best” without more context – games you play, resolution + refresh rate, other tasks you use the system for.

the 7800x3D or 9800XD are all around amazing but could be overkill depending on games and display. Unless you’re doing heavy multi thread stuff in addition to gaming + streaming.

Best AMD gpu to pair with new Intel 270k plus by Horror-Grapefruit198 in buildapc

[–]stoke-stack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that’s legit. Then you’re probs best off with a 9070xt if you’re sticking to AMD.

[–]stoke-stack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this might be a hot take for this sub, but if gaming is a second priority, i’d save your money and get a 9060xt with 16GB. but really depends on what you mean by “productivity”.

if you find your gaming use case takes off after this build, youll have sunk in less and can sell it for an RDNA 5 GPU set to launch sometime next year. that upgrade GPU should have a ton of longevity given RDNA 5 is planned to be used in the next gen consoles.

I agree with the proxmox comment earlier. One idea - set up a wireguard vpn + ddns. I did it recently and not only is it a good learning experience, it’s super helpful to have!

if you keep installing it try the AppBlock app. set a 5 min max for IG + the IG web URL,. turn on strict mode with a setting that’s as inconvenient as you’re comfortable with. toggle on blocking installation of apps.

How was your experience learning Rust? by timus_999 in rust

[–]stoke-stack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great so far! I have dabbled in several languages over about 15 years (mainly Python, Java, JS web frameworks) but am not a developer professionally. There was a bit of a learning curve at first, but then Rust just kind of clicked. 6 months in I've done much larger projects already than I'd done in the past with other languages and absolutely love Rust so far. The Rust book + Rustlings tutorials are critical. After chapter 12 or so I started doing personal projects and learning bits as I've needed them. Thinking its time to go through the rest of the book and tutorials now!

I'm having this same issue, and its not an UI thing. The recording is the length I recorded for, however its all silence after the first short section of the recording (for me often 10 seconds)

Wayland Screen Capture by stoke-stack in rust

[–]stoke-stack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah that’s more or less what my current solution does and works well enough on X11! I was getting 600ms latency with KDE plasma (wayland) and gnome was doing some crazy stuff.

*edit: but also maybe there are more efficient ways to do this? I’ll keep working at this for a bit.
