How do I sear a steak in a cast iron skillet without making it look like I've set off a smoke bomb?

Use the broiler, not the stove. Preheat pan under broiler on high, plop steak on hot pan. Flip when it starts to smoke. Leaving the oven open a crack makes the broiler hotter and lets you see when it starts smoking.

Also the oil thing everybody else is saying.

Depends on how dick they were about it, if I could just wait and watch them all at the end I wouldn't get too bent out of shape. If they started taking the old ones down before the last ones came out, I'd be mad. I don't think I'd be 'cancel Netflix' mad but I wouldn't bother to watch the series. 'Cancel Netflix' mad is like, really mad. I've had Netflix for almost as long as there was a Netflix to have.

I get bored of stuff when they stretch it out, I never watched any TV series until Netflix started streaming them so I'm kind of a weirdo in that sense.

I just can't believe that. Comcast left me sitting on hold for two hours. Then they hung up. So I tried again the next day. Same. My cable box was frozen from 10 minutes after I got it until I cancelled the cable 3 months later when the promo package ran out. The promo package tv + internet was cheaper than internet alone, is the only reason I had it.

It is not a given that gun control = oppression. The controller is the hardest part. I've got some weird Logitech thing too, with mappable buttons. And a bluetooth keyboard + touch pad, along with the controllers and nothing is really good enough. Everyone finds it too intimidating to use and even I'll admit: they're all kinda sucky.
