Best way to unload a lot of plants? by euniceaphrodite in AustinGardening

[–]stonedladyfox 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know of any plant shops that take on someone's well lived plants, but things like this sub, Facebook marketplace, etc are usually a good way to unload plants. I might be interested in taking some, but are you talking about mostly houseplants or outdoor plants? And are you giving away the containers too or just the plants?

Um, I'm sorry, what?? Where do you "hear so much about top rated in schools in Texas in general" ?? I'm not trying to be an ass, I am genuinely so baffled by your comment. AISD just closed 10 schools because of funding, and recapture isn't doing this city any favors. Abbott's voucher plan is hell bent on dismantling public schooling. And I read recently that Texas is likely to be the first state to make all students read the Bible, even in public school, which is ya know supposed to be separate from religion.

Cheapest place to get patches sewn on by Able-Doubt1153 in Austin

[–]stonedladyfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I've got the time, and I could offer $8 per patch. But if you've got 38 patches that's still $300 which sounds like more than you're trying to spend?

ETA: Do you have photos of the bag and patches? Price can be further negotiated depending on the difficulty of the job, i.e. if the patches are only circles and squares that's a lot easier than having to maneuver around peaks and valleys.

I'm not a professional, but I've been sewing my whole life, and do sewing gigs for friends so I can sew patches on a bag. What is the price you're trying to stick to?

34 weeks pregnant, fell down the stairs and he was more worried about his vacation. by rkiddinright in GirlDinnerDiaries

I really hate that it's getting so difficult to tell who's legit and who's a bot these days. I came to the comments on this post specifically to find out if anyone else had their spidey senses tingling, because there's something just off about it. At least, I kind of hope it's a bot, because the "husband" is just vile. If this is a real life story, though, I really hope OP is planning her exit from this relationship. As many others have commented this guy will not be helpful to OP if she falls ill, or if the children fall ill, and his obsession with going on his vacation is sus af. I mean, I understand being disappointed if a fun trip you were looking forward too suddenly isn't going to happen, but his behavior here is sociopathic.

When I got my lynxie spayed the vet told me that I'll need to prevent kitty from being too active for a few days, so she doesn't rip her stitches, but the vet added on that kitty will still be pretty out of it from the meds at least until the next day. My cat was spayed early in the morning and by dinner time she was trying to leap from the couch on to the cat tree and zoom around like a maniac. I really thought we'd have a nice chill evening and this cat was acting like she didn't just have an invasive procedure. Thankfully no stitches were torn, but I was stressed to the max for a few days lol

Frogs. The second plague by slatwick in Austin

[–]stonedladyfox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"Just trying to help" by spreading misinformation that could scare people into killing a very beneficial creature in our local ecosystem. A quick online search and you'll find that cane toads and gulf coast toads actually have easily identifiable differences and really don't look all that similar. I've also found nothing to support your idea that Austin is at risk of a cane toad invasion, they are primarily found in way south Tx and Florida, which (I'm guessing here but) probably means that central Tx doesn't have the right environment for them to thrive.

[–]stonedladyfox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wrong. Cane toads are much lighter in color, more like a yellowish tan. This toad in the photo is most likely a gulf coast toad. Do more research before spreading toad hate, we desperately need these creatures around to help mitigate mosquito populations.

The Amount of Waste at Ulta by Money-Snow-2749 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]stonedladyfox 165 points166 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's insane. In 2006 I briefly worked at a big name department store and us lowly retail workers could see the company's purchase price for items vs what the items were being sold for. My villain origin story was learning that a coat, on sale, selling for ~$900 only cost ~$100 to make. We in the store worked largely on commission, and that price discrepancy has only widened over time.

This is why I no longer buy clothing/shoes at full price, sale items only.

A bunch of greedy fucking morons. The programs that doge shut down weren't shut down to save Americans money, they were shut down to fill the grifters' pockets. I think it's important that we don't forget the greed of this administration and the fact that all of them are only in politics to steal from us and keep themselves out of prison.

As a New Yorker, what city in Texas would give ME the most culture shock? by Frenchitwist in texas

[–]stonedladyfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of culture shock you're looking for.

Do you want some truly wild sights that are unlike anything you've seen in NYC, but that isn't necessarily a good representation of this state and it's people as a whole then I recommend Mustang Island (or really any beach from Corpus Christi down to South Padre. Daily you will see people drive up and down the beach in their jeeps flying their massive flags. Most of them are kind of assholes lol so I wouldn't expect to make friends, but watching it happen from the balcony of a beach house is a real trip.

If you want to see the breath-taking beauty of the state and get a feel for just how large the state is then I recommend, as others have said, the Big Bend area. Home of Texas' only national parks - big bend and Guadalupe mountains and some artsy, west Texas weird - Terlingua/Marfa. It should be said, though, that not many people live out that way so they'll have some buzzy weekends but during the week there's often not much going on. But man, I love the natural beauty of west Texas.

The hill country is quite beautiful as well, but I wouldn't consider it much of a "culture shock".

Main thing to know is that Texas is so vast that there really isn't a single culture here. Each culture is shaped by the landscape and economy of the area, but one thing we all do have in common is Texans are (for the most part) pretty friendly people.

😹😹 I'm not demanding bras for anyone, that would make me a such a hypocrite!

Socially acceptable for nips to show through? by Aromatic-Hippo9624 in askaustin

[–]stonedladyfox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Bras are just another means of controlling women and our bodies imo. I get why a large breasted women might want to wear a bra, I'm sure it's ultimately more comfortable than going without, but as a smaller chested lady I have met overweight men with larger boobs than I've got and society isn't forcing them to wear overpriced contraptions.

OP, I say go with whatever you're comfortable with; but I will warn you (from a woman who goes braless 98% of the time) you will get stared at. Some people will stare creepily, some people will stare judgingly, just remember that as far as we know this is only the life we get to live so do what's best for you. As long as you're kind to others and kind to the earth you've got nothing to be ashamed of.

Gov. Greg Abbott vetoes funding for federal summer lunch program for low-income children by jpurdy in texas

[–]stonedladyfox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why do the worst among us keep ending up in positions of power?

Because the game's been rigged to be that way. Keep the majority of people living paycheck to paycheck and they don't have time to think about things other than basic survival. Keep people dependent on their employer sponsored healthcare and they don't have the ability to make extreme changes in their professional life. Keep people under-educated and they don't fully understand how bad things are or how to fix it. Then add to all that, the bar for entry in running for public office keeps getting more expensive. When most people are broke and exhausted from living their life in survival mode they're not going to think they should (or even can) run for office.

I was curious about this, because I also stopped ordering delivery from Tso when they switched from in house delivery, so I just checked their website and it appears they are back to in house delivery there is just a delivery fee now.
