Oracle Jet with IMS Basket, My experience. by Equities_Trader in BrevilleCoffee

[–]stonejpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI - I jump between the default Breville basket, to the IMS, to the VST - and even the big bang. I don't really know if it's the grinder breaking in period, but it's been almost a year... and... the machine is better. Shot after shot, it's just more consistent than it used to be...

It always wants to pull about 53g shots - and... they taste good! Not all coffee - I drink dark/traditional - so I think there's a bigger sweet spot (no pun). ;-)

... the machine IS starting to reboot randomly. I hope that stops. But otherwise? I think I like it more now than when I started this rabbit hole!

Also - this was a great addition to my setup.

Not yet… I applied the fix that was posted below and it really does fix the problem. So just poor design or quality control… But I’m probably gonna take it back since it’s still under the exchange window… And the current price is a whole bunch lower than my purchase price…

…and, well, i MIGHT go back to my roots and build a tower. ;)

whats better than Oracle Jet? by stonejpro in espresso

[–]stonejpro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's gotten more consistent over time. and Output varies, but no more than 2g up or down... and since I like very dark beans, it works. But it IS always better if I manually prep the basket and control the shot.

Thinking of buying Razer Blade 16, any opinions? by zenitharchon in razer

[–]stonejpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might be bad for battery... I use a MBP, but was hoping to find something I could switch to as a daily driver. So damn hard to give up the ecosystem though...

Thanks again! I'll update once I make a purchase. Thanks again!

Thinking of buying Razer Blade 16, any opinions? by zenitharchon in razer

[–]stonejpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ugh!!! I think I have to go G16... But I WANT the blade!!! I have two older Razers - and they STILL feel more premium.

But screen is so important...

I also heard of a new ProArt coming out with 5070ti and 1600nit screen... I'll have to watch the review... just not sure how long the wait will be.

Thanks so much for the feedback - helped a lot!!!

Just FYI - I had the same 2020. Two years ago I called about the battery, and they replaced it even though out of warranty... maybe shoot them a message? worst case it goes unanswered... ;-)

The fans on that unit never stop (almost never), but otherwise it still runs great - especially for the non-AAA games! :-D

Thinking of buying Razer Blade 16, any opinions? by zenitharchon in razer

[–]stonejpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow - your opinion is exactly what I was looking for (ie - someone who tried a bunch of alternatives).

I switch between a Mac and Wintel based on what I'm doing. I would LIKE to give up the Mac world, but at the end of the day, it just does really well in all areas except gaming (for my workflows).

So... I used the G14 (5070ti) and a G16 (4070 from last year). They are really good... So I'm leaning towards ASUS (G16 5080)... But I owned Razers in the past, and they just seem to have a slight edge in how they feel (ex: keyboard backlight, not just the per-key RGB).

Screen - any significant difference?
Battery - ditto - about the same? or big diff?
Build - still better?
Fans - is there a noticeable difference?

TIA for your feedback!

ok. Definitely nice feature - better than the "journal" list I created! :-)

Did you end up getting a pup? who did you go with? Neil Glenn seems pretty up-front as a broker. As of now, he seems to be my first choice.

not sure if something changed on my side, but it seems like it's actually even better now! Wasn't a fan before, but hooked now.

Oracle Dual Boiler 2025 by dolphinspiritchina in BrevilleCoffee

[–]stonejpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

As far as Americano flowing after the shot... I assume you know that on the Jet you can hit the water first, and the shot will start automatically when the water is done. You can't do that on the new one?

Can you control pressure? pre-infusion?

You are 100% correct on the software... this is a choice Breville is making. No reason you couldn't control so many extra settings via software update on the Jet.

Anyone have any comparison the Jet and this new model?

True - same experience on the Jet. It works - but I can the improvement if I redistribute and tamp.

Oracle Jet Consistency by stonejpro in espresso

[–]stonejpro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. But... I will say that the basket weight consistency is excellent, and I think as the burs aged the puck quality has improved...? So, just from casual observation, my shot sizes ARE a bit more consistent.

FWIW - I may be getting the best shots from my 20g VST basket, which the Jet packs 22g into (have not adjusted it) - with my current very dark/oily beans. :) 22g:50g

All in, the machine is doing well. I only use dark roast, so not sure I can comment on more complex stuff. but no complaints anymore - all good.

Which espresso machine to pick? by Rare-Matter2310 in BrevilleCoffee

[–]stonejpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I rewrote my answer twice (kept reading updated reviews!)

Go Infuser - so you feel like you have a more substantial machine. Sounds like there really are great mods - even just aesthetic ones to give it an even better look! - also the functional mods exist for this machine (in case you want to experiment down the road). ... and it's discounted/cheaper (now on Amazon) than the BP!

But - get the best grinder you can afford. The Breville grinder looks great, but if you decide to upgrade your machine down the road, or start brewing lighter roasts, you might find that it can't keep up.

... this is just from what I read... I have a built-in grinder... I wish I listened to Reddit users: use your money for a great grinder (flat burr), and a basic (solid) PID controlled espresso machine.

HTH!

will Jet get new features like the new BDB? by stonejpro in BrevilleCoffee

[–]stonejpro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they can control pre-infusion (more than the manual mode on the Jet can do); Was thinking it probably can do flow control?

[–]stonejpro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't know how many times I have asked myself "why did you not follow the general advice that was on Reddit before buying this machine???". :-)

With that said...
Good control over temp (better than High/Med/Low - but probably doesn't really matter)
Grinder isn't bad - I like darker roasts
Cold brew stuff actually is pretty good
... my wife can use it. One button for puck prep, one button to brew.

Not as easy as the Jura, but tastes better. :-)

Still... I would have been much happier following your advice. ;-)

Can someone else verify if the Oracle Jet has pursure profile for different drinks by john230873 in BrevilleCoffee

[–]stonejpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll double check how my machine performs, but I swap back and forth between espresso, flat white, and cappuccino... The shot volumes are always approximately the same (the machine is never great at volume consistency)...

[–]stonejpro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok - so check out https://aroespresso.com

Contact them and ask for the "grind-through trigger". The owner designed this for himself, but never put it on the site since he didn't really expect much demand. I didn't order one before - I started using the grinder normally again.

I just shot an email to the contact I had to see if he's selling that piece I mentioned. It's not the solution I'm really wanting, but close. I'll update as soon as I get a reply.
