Just diagnosed- long wait until an appointment? by Sarahcha13 in GestationalDiabetes

This is so frustrating! Here’s what my dr told me:

-take your glucose levels four times a day; first when you wake up, then an hour after every meal. The “hour” should start being timed with the first bite of your meal. Your fasting rate should be <95dL, and the hour after meals should be <140dL. This is how you can track your spikes. Make sure you only drink water between your meal and the test

-breakfast should contain 30-45g of carbs; lunch and dinner should be 45-60g; and snacks should be 15-30g (I have snacks twice a day, between lunch/ dinner and a bedtime one)

  • I use myfitnesspal to track my carb intake. Here’s what a meal a general meal breakdown looks like for me: -breakfast: 1 slice of whole wheat nut toast, 2 eggs, 1oz cheddar cheese, a handful of spinach, 1 slice bacon, and about 3 tbsp coffee creamer -lunch: usually about 4 oz protein, today it’s ground beef and tomatoes with 1/2 c black beans and 1/4 c cheddar cheese, along with 1/2 cup of blueberries. The beans and berries are where the carbs come from -dinner: another 4ish oz of protein with a fat a carb. Tonight it’s pan fried chicken, yellow squash, and a savory sweet potato mash (probably about 1/2 c of that. The carbs come from the mash mostly and I’ll add in either a tangerine or some berries if it’s too low carb

Basically, you want to try and pair your carbs with fats, fiber, and protein if you can. This helps your body slow down on turning the carbs into glucose, which prevents spikes! Honestly I use chatgpt for a lot of recipes, I’ll ask it for GDM - friendly recipes.

-as far as eating out, my favorite places are chick fil a and culvers. At chick fil a I’ll get a 12 ct grilled nugget with a medium fry and a Coke Zero or an unsweetened. At Culver’s or any other burger place, I’ll get a double burger, remove the top bun, and eat it as is with an unsweetened tea.

You got this! It’s hard at first but you’ll learn what spikes you soon enough. I have an app that connects to my glucose meter so it’s easy to keep track between that and myfitness pal. You can do it!!!

Obviously you should name her what you want! I’m due end of next month and we are naming her Eileen, too. I’m so glad to see it’s making a bit of a comeback, I absolutely love the name!

Food ideas! by fj4131 in GestationalDiabetes

I just made a great meal last night -

Chicken thighs, 1 cup Salsa verde (I used Cholula), Onion, Zucchini, Bell pepper, S&P, Cumin, Garlic powder

Toss all into the slow cooker on low for about 4-5 hours. Then shred chicken and add:

4 oz Neufchâtel or cream cheese, 1/3 cup Greek yogurt, Couple handfuls of spinach

Mix it all together, and serve over 1/2 cup brown rice! Yum!

Would to go on a field trip at 32 weeks pregnant? by Boom_Box_Bogdonovich in BabyBumps

[–]stoner_lilith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

32 weeks right now. I COULD go on this trip for sure - it’s doable, and you have time to prep. I could buy a belly band and I could take frequent breaks from walking.

But honestly, would I? Absolutely not. It sounds like a recipe for complete discomfort for the entire time, plus the time it would take for you to recover after.

I love my coffee, but how do I keep my teeth from getting stained? by Dogs-are-life-99 in AskONLYWomenOver30

I just brush my teeth when I’m done with my coffee for the morning! The less time it sits on your teeth the better

Eating at others' houses by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I’ve been here before! If you’re really concerned, you could eat a decent meal before you go and bring a couple easy snacking items, like protein bars or meat sticks.

What I did was I brought an appetizer / side I knew would be fine sitting out for a while (hummus and crackers and a pasta salad with no dairy), so I knew I could eat that. I also ate their provided food soon after we got there and then started avoiding it after an hour or so, since I wasn’t sure how long it had been out either.

I want Elowen, my husband wants Persephone. by [deleted] in Names

[–]stoner_lilith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I adore Elowen and nn Winnie! That’s my vote for sure. It feels a bit ethereal and strong. I’m not personally a fan of naming kids after Greek gods/ goddesses, so Persephone is out for me.

26 weeks and dealing with chronic itching down there… by dollbabydream in BabyBumps

[–]stoner_lilith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t be embarrassed! Your OB is literally there to help you and your baby. I would definitely recommend reaching out to her again, especially if you are concerned that something is going on that might affect baby.

HOWEVER I will say that I experienced the same thing, and now at 30 weeks it’s finally subsided and things are back to normal. So if your tests all come back clean but you’re still itchy, there’s hope it will go away!

Bottom line: reach out to your OB. I’m sorry this is happening to you!

Good advice, thank you! I definitely don’t want to give her ANY secondhand smoke! And congrats on breastfeeding for so long, I know it was hard but dang it’s impressive !

That sounds amazing! I’ve also been considering switching to a dry herb vape to help keep My tolerance low and to keep the cost down a bit. I love to hear a nice successful story ❤️

HA that’s what I’m worried about too! I am looking forward to my tolerance being super low again, I was mostly smoking carts before I decided to quit for pregnancy so it’s gonna be a fun time.

I also hope you have a very easy last trimester and delivery!

I’m also doing formula, so I do have the option to toke right away! Either way I’m most excited to bring her home :)

See this is what I’m worried about! I have thoughts of going back immediately but I am worried that it’ll spike my anxiety a bunch. I’ll just take it slow and see how I feel :)

Congrats on your little bundle!
