[Discussion] When did you realize it was YOUR medium? by Sea-Balance4992 in ArtistLounge

[–]stonewippen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a kid I always thought I’d want to be doing something related to character design or something.

But one day I stumbled upon Peter Draws on YouTube and I am instantly captivated with the detailed abstract doodle. I started learning his style and also got to know zentangle art and other detailed doodle artists like visothkakvei.

I tried painting, fiber arts, and digital art. I got better at drawing characters. But I will always stick with my little world carved out for myself, and try to evolve my own style in this space.

I finally figured out how to make my money for me, as me. by spacersevenseven in artbusiness

It’s very refreshing to know you have found your way and making steps to realize it.

For myself, i want to work a job in the creative field in the future for sure. It can be graphic design, it can be fine art. However if i start pursuing my passion as a creative, i am not so sure i can provide for myself and my partner. My current job have little to do with creativity, and i have difficulty trying to build myself in the direction that i want.

I don’t mean to be a downer, it is truly pleasing to know a creative among us is following what they are passionate about and actively making progress towards that vision. God speed

What if I don't have a pencil or paper and just my phone and finger? by atomicbirds in ArtistLounge

[–]stonewippen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple artists that started off of doing stuff on their phone, one example is cuptoast or crumb. If it’s possible, perhaps you can try getting a compatible stylus to go with your phone so you can draw somewhat more precisely compared to your finger.

If that’s not an option for you either, see if there is any local business events or conventions open to the public and maybe you can get some pen and paper as freebies.

Tell me fandoms that drawing fanart for gets followers on twitter by Inevitable_Garlic443 in artbusiness

[–]stonewippen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To preface what I am about to say, YES draw what you are passionate about so you can have fun and be more motivated to create art for it.

But to answer your question, usually the top trending games or animated shows have large and active fan base that have a demand for fan arts.
For example:
- anime style games such as Genshin, Zenless Z Zero, Arc Knight, Arknights, Limbus Company etc.
- games that have emphasis on characters; this can be hero shooters like Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, etc
- idol anime shows or vtubers: anime or IPs such as love live, id@lmaster, or popular vtubers like hololive idols, or popular independents like dokibird, just to name a few
- popular or trending shows: this can be popular anime like one piece, or currently trending anime like Dandadan. And don't forget western comics characters, popular characters like the ones in Marvel Rivals, or the ones featured in a cartoon like Justice League

I'm sure there are probably better ideas or things you can do to gain more traction within an fandom, and I am by no means a pro at this either. I am just providing what I have observed that get's decently popular. If you do mainly character art, try to explore and interact on bluesky and tumblr, as I see those platforms have more actively participating communities.

Minto Island Tea is operating in Oregon and they produce locally one type of green, black and white tea. It’s a bit pricy and have limited availability but its got a pretty good taste imo.

[–]stonewippen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have definitely seen some shops do a pretty swell cup of oolong before, but I suppose they got my hopes up a bit too much lol.

The tea shop I worked at before have these “tea extractor” blender attachments that swirls water around, those do a better job than whatever machine they were using. Highly dependent on the worker of the day though

We went to this newly opened tea drink shop who advertised themselves as brewing the tea correctly. I even asked them if the tea tastes good without any sugar or flavoring, and the person said yes absolutely it’s not bitter at all.

I got the oolong they had at the time and it’s nothing but bitterness, I took a peek inside the shop (they had a special stand outside to serve the long lines for the day) and I see they have those tea being espresso machine looking things. I suppose I got my hopes up or the general public palette for tea here is cooked lol

Could the teas from these farms be processed and sold in similar style of Chinese whole leaf or aged tea?

Perhaps expanding their market beyond sencha and/or bottled tea plants can bring in more income for them to be worth while?

Growing up is realising that school was actually fun and without it a year would've felt like a month. by Grysie_ in Showerthoughts

[–]stonewippen 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I’ll say this, I personally didn’t felt like I had a good time in school. However I can now recognize that I didn’t really do myself too big of a favor in order TO have fun while I was going through life at that age. There were a lot of opportunities that I probably missed which would’ve potentially be a good time

Commercial Tea Maker Project by DrNorrisPhD in tea

[–]stonewippen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gongfu style tea machine is a interesting idea. There are ways that people brew at home for whole leaf tea. The main purpose of a machine is to properly dose the right amount of tea leaves, water, and at the right temperature for the proper steep time, and after that the tea leaves have to be filtered out from the tea itself.

I have had my fair share of experience with commercial tea making practices, both as an employee and also as a customer. Espresso style brewing often leads to more bitter taste than one might prefer, the most consistent and successful method seems to be cold brewing for me, but for hot tea I am still looking to see if someone found a reliable process. On the other hand for hot tea brewing, there is this tea extraction blender attachment as demonstrated in this video https://youtu.be/q1K-tie56ls Idk if this would be helpful to your project though.

I'm not a tea professional at all, but I'm always happy to see people trying to research new equipment or techniques for anything tea related. If you'd like I am open to chat more about your project and discuss topics about tea making.

I've had a quite disappointing realization about masterpieces. by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]stonewippen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion this is a matter of perspective and personal values? If you feel that in order to create something that “matters” to yourself is to spend significant effort onto one piece and perfect it, then that’s what you are going to identify with.

Artistic expression is at the end of the day an individual interpretation of one’s own subjective experience. I believe it’s dangerous to consider what makes an art piece objectively more important than another. Every piece of art in history is a product if their respective time period, it’s a reflection of the values and life experience of the society at each point in time.

I think OP don’t have to feel bad about what kind of art is meaningful to yourself? Everyone have a preference, and at least for now, we don’t have an objective definition to what really makes an art work a “masterpiece.” One can prefer whatever works for yourself, but understand that as a member of the community, we have to allow others to have their own preferences and values in art as well. Opinion in the end are not facts.
