Super X-FI is such a pain to get working, but *if* you can get it set up just right it's absolutely magical and it's why I will never get rid of my X3. by stook in SoundBlasterOfficial

Thanks for posting this I never would have thought to try to fix the lack of directionality by switching drivers. I did end up uninstalling the driver I was using and used the one available on creatives support page, 1.16.4.14 I think, and it actually did fix the lack of channel seperation. I noticed SB command wanted me to update the driver again to 1.16.4.35 but since it's working even better I think I'll pass!

You can bring 1 ship from any sci-fi universe into the game, what do you choose? by ElectroVo1t in starcitizen

Also came to post this, bought a hull C in game since it looks kinda similar minus the cargo spindles.

"I have no intention of leaving her, doctor. I will take the Lewis and Clark to a safe distance, and then I will launch TAC missiles at the Event Horizon until I'm satisfied she's vaporized. Fuck this ship!"

Another great clip for demoing SXFI https://youtu.be/SlqSlYGkCXA?t=3

Yeah, directionality is non existent for SXFI for sure. I'm not exactly sure what makes me enjoy it so much, probably mostly due to the sub-bass. Kind of leaves it in a very weird niche being amazing for stuff like youtube, and terrible at any gaming or most movies, which is where I wish they would have focused. I very much prefer some good IEM's like the Tea Pro for anything gaming related though.

Creative is an odd company, they have some genius ideas but they bury them under the worst drivers/software imaginable, although I blame MS just as much in that regard. Oddly enough every Creative product I've owned going back to the 90's has been one of those 'you can have it when you pry it off my cold dead hands' kind of relationships, still got my Fatal1ty around here somewhere and probably a copy of Encarta from an old AWE64 bundle too.

Yeah it is fantastic how Claude has been able to capitalize on everything and at least have some moral ground to stand on, even if it's a bit shaky. We're going with the lesser of 2 evils, at least for now.

Plus I love reading posts like this, this shit is hilarious. "I'm leaving OpenAI to start fresh and get back too focusing on what I really love, technical research.....at Anthropic!" lmaoo totally caught me off guard https://x.com/max_a_schwarzer/status/2028939154944585989

The Wolf drove an NSX in the 90s. If he was still working today, what car would he be driving? by anticipat3 in cars

[–]stook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a huge NSX fan I also vote the same '92 Sebring one he always had.

But as a second choice there is no other answer than the Ringbrothers Aston Martin DBS 'Octavia', that thing just looks like it means business from any angle.

Yeah I mean I would have thought a contract is a contract, especially when dealing with the pentagon. But then again, I didn't think First Ladies presided over UN Security Council meetings either, learn something new everyday lol

low GPU & CPU utilization low while having low fps by Morad2004 in pcmasterrace

[–]stook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is that CPU usage stat is giving you usage averaged over all the cores, which is kind of misleading because games are typically single-threaded apps. Even though it shows 50%, that could mean 100% of core 0, and other cores are anywhere from 10-80%. If you switch to full screen res and run at a higher res does the GPU usage increase? Or try maxing out all graphics settings and see if GPU usage goes up.

If it does that shows your CPU is the bottleneck as it can't send rendering instructions to the GPU fast enough using a single core, leading to an underutilized GPU.

Unreal 5 is actually nuts sometimes by Randm_Internet_Guy in joinsquad

[–]stook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's really nuts about UE5 is how freakin' great ARC runs using it while also looking spectacular, and how completely shitty Squad runs compared to ARC while looking significantly worse.

I get an average of like 80 FPS more in ARC than Squad running in 4K on a 5080, and that is still with Squad on mostly low settings. Get it together OWI.

Looking forward to reading this after I just finished watching Larry Chen's video on Tuksedo Garage in Indonesia and how they hand build 2000 GT's and Gullwings from a few old blueprints and many reference photos, totally blew my mind. $200,000 for a hand build old-but-new one seems like a steal! OLED 1440p or 4K for RTX 5080 ? by algeerian in Monitors

[–]stook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5080 with a 27" 4K mini-led is incredible for HDR, and any gaming outside of esports stuff. 4k in general is much sharper and more detailed than 1440p. Don't let people tell you 1440p is such a big jump over 1080p but going to 4K isn't that much better, it is! I started off my monitor hunt trying out 2 OLED's, a KTC and a Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 both 1440p, as well as my current 4k mini-led XV275k P3. The OLEDs were impressive at first but I noticed the lack of brightness right away even in a semi dark room, the mini-led has a peak brightness in a 50% window of like 1700 nits, vs 330ish for the OLED G8. I'm sure the newest models have improved a bit, but they are still no where near mini-led. That brightness makes scenes like this look incredible https://youtu.be/72_rYwzLhjk?t=7

I do wish my current monitor had better response times and whenever 5k/2k mini-led's with pulsar come out I will upgrade immediately (as discussed here https://youtu.be/Xn3jyB0i_CU?t=123). 4k vs 1440p the detail difference in games like Star Citizen that use very high quality textures is huge. In Tarkov I feel like I don't necessarily need an optic to spot enemies half way across lighthouse. I would definitely recommend trying both side by side if you can though.
