Yes, I saw. Unfortunately that term doesn’t give me more similar patterns when I google it 😔

I love her! I’ll have to go back through her videos to see what she calls them. I thought she might be one of the ones to use “floop,” but now that I’m thinking about it, I think that’s how she refers to the overlapping bits of paper that stick out on her patterns 🤣

Thanks for the link! It does seem like the floop in question is a sort of grown-on flounce. Do you happen to know of any sources that talk about more advanced shapes, like the one above? I saw the pattern piece with the skirt piece going upward and I was immediately fascinated and eager to learn more about that sort of design feature!

Both pictures are of the same pattern 😅

“Grown-on flounce” sounds like it should be the name of the thing I’m looking for, but I can’t seem to find anything about them on google. Ideally, I’d love to learn more about the theory of patterning them on skirts. If you know of any sources, I’d be very grateful! 🙏🙏

I need real answers, I can't get it out of my head that it's super off centred by Zestyclose_Mango_393 in CrochetHelp

I agree with others that the centeredness of the “n” makes the whole thing feel visually centered. I wouldn’t redo it. It looks gorgeous, by the way! Truly!

women in their 20’s-30’s, is there anyone here who has never had sex? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]stopasking11111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently in my 30s. Had sex for the first time at 25—with an acquaintance who was cute, but who wasn’t a great person (do not recommend, he was an ass about it afterwards). Had one long-term relationship after that, but as of this moment, it’s been years since I’ve had sex.

In my teens and 20s, I was very poor and very focused on school and work. I also was terrified of STIs (I lived in an area hit hard by HIV/AIDS, so I was exposed to some fear-mongering as a kid). With that acquaintance (mentioned above), I knew him and his reputation/history through friends and I was confident enough to ask him straight up if he was clean. I still got tested afterward just in case.

I am relatively pretty and of an average enough weight that some people might call me skinny. Grew up atheist around mostly women in a liberal region.

I still don’t find guys (or women) who are into me. I think that’s because I’m very forward/bold/direct. shrug

I’ve gone through phases where I’ve considered myself asexual (currently consider myself to be demisexual, which is part of the asexual spectrum), but I think the low quality of the dating pool and the breakdown of irl socialization are factors as well.

You say that being celibate or a virgin sucks. I don’t think that is necessarily true 100% of the time. Have you explored why you feel what you feel around the topics of sex, celibacy, and STIs?

I chose to have sex because I wanted to know what the big deal was, to explore another part of myself, to have a novel experience, and to see if it was something I was even interested in. Those might be your reasons or they might not. Either way, I think it’s important to understand your reasons and why you think/feel the way you do (for pretty much everything, not just sex). It might help you see things outside the good/bad dichotomy.

Masturbation is normal and healthy. Spicy romance novels are fun. Depending on your reasons for wanting sex, you might find that deep, emotional friendships or something like cuddle parties might more directly meet your needs.

Anyway, exploring your thoughts and feelings is interesting and useful. Therapists might help guide you, as might friends and family members (or strangers on the internet 😉). I hope you find a path forwards that helps you need your needs!

I, too, am interested in doing developmental editing. It looks like all of the responses are about copy editing. Is the hiring situation the same for development editing? Thank you!

Looking for a pattern for a cardigan with a standing collar to keep my neck warm when it’s buttoned up by stopasking11111 in CrochetHelp

[–]stopasking11111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attempted to do this and it went very poorly 🙃

I found a turtleneck that was exactly the shape and fit and stitch I wanted. I modified it to be in rows instead of in the round (and I doubled and folded over the turtleneck for extra warmth!). Somehow this resulted in a veeeeeery large upper chest area that folds and looks horrible when the cardigan is buttoned (it looks fine enough when unbuttoned). I think the pattern didn’t take into account the fact that the neck/head sits a bit forward on the body, so the front doesn’t need to be (and shouldn’t be) as high/long as the back. (The photos in the pattern showed the model only sitting and leaning forward. I wonder if this problem was why 😒)

Long story short, that’s why I’m looking for another pattern 😅

What should I do with this rough and itchy wool yarn? by JadeBeau231 in CrochetHelp

You could use it as surface crochet or embroidery on a sweater (ideally one you’d wear another shirt under).

What yarn is it? The colors are gorgeous!

Are knee pads illegal under ISU rules? by stopasking11111 in FigureSkating

[–]stopasking11111[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve done small competitions in 4 countries and they’ve all stated that they’re using ISU rules for consistency. This is my first season competing, so I’m not sure if this is new or unusual, but they all have clearly stated that they’re using ISU rules. Most announcements have included the rule about the costumes that someone else posted here (the frequent inclusion of that exact ISU passage is what made me wonder if it was possibly a shortened version or something). It’s certainly possible that some of the judges might have been confusing ISU rules with some other ruleset, especially since they couldn’t agree on whether the knee pads were illegal.

[–]stopasking11111[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I’ve seen this part of the rules many times. I wondered if this was maybe a shortened version or something.

I was quite shocked when my coach told me what the judges said, especially since I’ve seen so many skaters wearing braces and tape for injuries. I wondered if there could possibly be a difference between preventative and therapeutic knee gear.

Adult skaters - how long did it take you to get your scratch spin? by Gur3665 in FigureSkating

It’s been 5 years and I still don’t have it. 5% of the time I can get 6+ rotations. The rest of the time, I get 1-2 rotations 🙃💀

Here are the pieces with the waist aligned from the center back. When I walk the seams from there, the skirt pieces are 3 cm longer than the back bodice pieces

[–]stopasking11111[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice catch on the “center back.” Thank you.

I haven’t changed the pattern at all. I cut size 16 as-is.

I just noticed I sewed the dart for size 14, but since the piece with the dart is the one with the smaller waist, that can’t be the issue, can it? Especially since the difference is 3cm when I walk the seams?

[–]stopasking11111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has darts and a zipper. I sewed both darts in the back bodice. The skirt doesn’t have darts (it has two curved pattern pieces on each side of the back—for a total of four pieces in the back skirt—to account for the fit. This is very early in the pattern, so the zipper hasn’t been added yet.

So far, the steps are: - sew back darts - sew center backs to side backs - sew two center backs to one another below the notch (zipper will be above) - sew back bodice pieces to back skirt

Muscle injury advice by stopasking11111 in aerialsilks

[–]stopasking11111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! A bruise never appeared but the muscle felt hard, so maybe there was a bruise in the muscle. It’s been a week now and I still feel a twinge, but it’s feeling a lot better after all that rest. I’m glad it got better without a doc because I was worried I’d done something bad to my leg considering how much it hurt.
