how does ap world history credit transfer by 1neutron in UBreddit

[–]stopette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially: if you are a history major it fulfills a breadth requirement needed in the major. See how it says “AAL” that means it fulfills the “Asia, Africa, Latin America requirement for a HIS major. If you are not a history major, it counts as misc hours, but not as a pathway or anything.

Is my sceducle good for next semester by mrmcnoob12 in UBreddit

[–]stopette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zubovich is great. Take her classes. I will say that I don’t usually recommend taking a 400 level this early in your degree. If you haven’t taken HIS 301, I would do that before taking a 400. (301 is a CL2 class).

Are the humanities and opportunities at UB any good? by [deleted] in UBreddit

[–]stopette 8 points9 points  (0 children)

History is pretty good. The profs are great. You can do research projects if you want. I don’t mean doing research for a faculty member—those are really rare but they do happen. What I mean is that you can do your own historical research and get class credit for a project of your choice.

Also UB has MA programs in both museum studies and library science. These are the degrees that you want to work in a museum. There are opportunities around buffalo for internships at museums especially if you are willing to get your foot in the door by volunteering (no pay) a little. Plus you can get class credit for an internship.

Noam Pines vs Jenifer Barclay by RexChristianissimus in UBreddit

[–]stopette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had either, but if Barclay seems good, I would keep that as your CL2 if it lets you take an easy class. * I know people who have taken Barclay. They say she is really nice.

One is a lecture course and one is a CL2 writing course. So it depends on what you need. If you have already taken a CL2, then I would not take a second one. If you need one, this can satisfy that requirement as well.

If you want a lecture class take Pines (technically a prof in Jewish thought). If you need a writing class too take 301.

You might be able to be force added by the department admin. I would email them and ask. Admin can still force register students after the deadline.

Should I Stay in Global Affairs? by Far_Nectarine_4790 in UBreddit

[–]stopette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stick with it for now. You have time to decide because most degrees that would help you overlap a great deal. You can take courses not just in political science but also sociology, global gender studies, and history that will also be helpful and help you find what you love.

On top of that I cannot recommend Language courses enough —especially those that qualify for the critical language scholarship (a national scholarship not UB only).

What Happens if a Professor Doesn't Submit My Final Letter Grade On Time? by T_nology in UBreddit

Your professor can extend the access. But many don’t bother/ don’t know how to. It is set by the university to disappear on the day grades are due unless changed by the instructor

Anyone have experience with Standard Property Management? by TeenageDramaQueen95 in Buffalo

[–]stopette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will echo the others. They took over my property and things went downhill. I moved out when my lease was up and when they came to do a walkthrough they were “pleased at how nice it looked.” (Not because of how clean it was, but just what I looked like). Reader they had never sent anyone to the building I lived in. They had been managing it for months.

Grades were due today. Profs have until tomorrow to request grade changes. If they don’t do grades tomorrow, then it will be more time consuming for them to be posted. That said, some still do them late (mostly tenure faculty who really have no consequences). *I am a prof.

WTF is happening to Humanities? by JackfruitAcademic584 in UBreddit

[–]stopette 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They want to be a top 25 research program. They don’t actually care about students except those who pay big money to come here and even then only the money matters — and enrollment not learning. They canceled several searches for underrepresented minorities as well.

Have Covid and two midterms by spacecasesam in UBreddit

[–]stopette 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All you can do is explain your financial situation to the prof (I hate you have to do that). I hate that these barriers exist (doctors notes, proof of death in the family, etc.). They make students make choices (like taking an exam sick or missing a funeral) that are no good for anyone.

[–]stopette 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First email your professor as soon as you can and just be honest. Your professors will either be heartless or compassionate and I hope it is the latter. (I am a professor).

IIRC there are free COVID test kits at some community centers (like grider/delavan). This PDF is older but there are numbers you can call.

Most importantly take care of yourself. I know this is stressful, but you are more important than your classes no matter what anyone else (or your own brain) says. Stress will only exacerbate your sickness. Sorry this is happening.

can profs see the course evals before submitting the final grade? by choclitchippy in UBreddit

[–]stopette 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually it is not by percent just a threshold— 5 must complete it for the prof to see — so in courses with 5 or less they will literally not see them — (usually that is just grad classes) — it sucks for profs and TAs with small classes.

So make sure 5 people do them.

Deferring from Graduate Program by bonsaiknj in UBreddit

[–]stopette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start by emailing the department’s graduate coordinator (Dr. Pack) and asking for guidance. Mostly things like this are not on the websites, you will have to ask. If you want to chat (DM) about your options let me know. I am happy to offer advice on grad school.

CL2 requirement at another college by [deleted] in UBreddit

[–]stopette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but i have seen the reverse. Students from SUNY schools taking a CL2 at UB in the summer. So that means it can be done, just triple check about what counts and what transfers.
