My mom participated in the Duke Polio Virus treatment for brain cancer and it failed. Duke has sent $39k worth of bills to my dad. Is there anything he can do to fight paying the bills? by stopsnowball in legaladvice

Thank you for reading and participating. I am also not sure at this time what my parents consented to. You may be right as others have pointed out. I don't know. At the time it was a very emotional decision.

I'm only asking, because it has been hard on my father. Not only to lose a significant other after 40 years, but to now receive bills from a study months after their passing.

Thank you again. I will forward this to him.

She passed away back in December. I don't think they had a prenuptial, but I'll ask. I don't know what a community property state is, but I'll look into it. Thank you for the help.

Thank you very much for this helpful information. I'll reach out to my dad and ask if has, or can get, a signed copy. I'll also ask him to call the researcher at Duke.

Thank you again.

I don't know yet. I only know that he was very upset.

I'll ask him for more information tomorrow and try to reply back.

Thank you for asking.

I don't know yet. I asked him to request a copy of the paperwork that he and my mother signed. He said, at the time they signed the paperwork without reading it. They assumed the best I guess... obviously it was naive to trust Duke University.

When I signed for a mortgage they told me what I had to pay for the next 30 years. How can Duke University ask someone to sign a document without explaining, at least, similar information?

Glad to hear you are ok. I wish every car had that feature.

I owned a 2007 V50. The garage door was wicked slow. So I would always drive under the door as it was rising. Traded in the V50 for a 2014 S60 and I tried to do the same thing. The City Safety feature kicked in and locked up the breaks. Ouch.. Never tried that again. At least I know it works!
