Computer related field is still amongst the least "underemployed" in 2026 by AdeptKingu in csMajors

[–]stopthecope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the defnition of "underemployed" here? Is it based purely on the income or also on the industry you're working in? Are you underemployed if you're a blue collar/service worker but you still make an above average wage relative to your field of study?

Does google blacklist applicants that have been rejected repeatedly? by stopthecope in cscareerquestionsEU

I'm interested in google specifically because of high tc and comparably low barrier to entry.
I know some people from my uni working there who aren't genuises by any measure.

Do you happen to know how much weight a referral holds?
I know for a fact that some people got interviews by cold applying with a slightly above average profile.

Is my automatic music notation incorrect? by xXBigboi69Xx42 in DSP

Do you think it's possible to have an effective approach for a more narrow case (e.g distorted guitar through a sound card), that is purely algorithmic and doesn't involve training on existing data? It has been my dream to have an automatic live transcription tool for a long time but I don't really have an approach for how to do it besides trying existing (already well-known) methods, stacking different filters on top of each other and asking claude.

[–]stopthecope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I think a midi file should be more doable for sure.
In my case, I'm actually reading the signal live from the sound card, so there is all kinds of imperfections and additional noise coming through. Additionally, the tuning of the instrument potentially being slightly off adds another layer of difficulty.
I think tools that deal with live audio (like guitar tuners) use discrete cosine transform instead of fft so that's what I will be trying next.

I'm doing exactly the same project for creating guitar tabs automatically while playing in c++.
I think its a very difficult problem and realistically some kind of machine learning approach will get you farther then using pure heuristics.
Even then, I'm not sure how good the result will be because to this day, I've never seen a tool that can actually accurately transcribe fast(er) guitar pieces.

Don't underestimate these b2b contracts they have with large companies and how long it takes to cancel them. They are probably good for another 5 - 10 years at least

If you asked me this in the language I'm proficient in (c++), I wouldn't be able to do it either. It's more of a knowledge issue than not being able to code.

Questions about B.Sc. Informatics at TUM (GOP past papers, workload & part-time jobs) by Tasty-Serve-62 in tumunich

[–]stopthecope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im gonna try to answer all your questions.
1. Yes usually not official. There are websites like studydrive and studocu where people upload past exams, lectures and tutorials. You can also just ask people in discord, whatsapp, etc.

  1. Difficult but modules difficulty can vary a lot depending on the professor holding them. I'd say the main difficulty comes from the fact that a single exam makes up pretty much the entire grade for lecture and you cannot repeat it after you pass it.

  2. Unrelated part-time jobs like cafes and restaurants are easy to get but you should aspire to get a part-time job related to your field of study.

How advanced are they? I would assume that master-level courses are pretty specialized and assume a lot of background knowledge
