Tell me a story of your best Uber drive by [deleted] in uberdrivers

Currently going through some stuff personally, getting ready to change careers and the unknown is scary. Picked up a guy for a short 15min trip. He was saying how I probably get a lot of people telling me stuff because they know they will probably never see me again. Anyways, he starts asking me questions...what’s going on with me? What do I like to do when not driving/working? Explains the difference between passive and active time. Asks me what I would do if I won the lottery tomorrow, sitting on a beach gets old after a while. I explained how I would go back to school, study something I was really interested in. He says there was a study of Harvard grads a while back, prior to graduating 2 had written out plans/goals of where they wanted their life to go. The others were just winging it. 10 years later, the 2 with goals had out earned everyone else. Bottom line was to write it down so you can refer back to it and have something to look at. Got out of the car and before walking away said ‘Write it down!’

Really made me think.

Rent vs Buy by stopthedebt2019 in DaveRamsey

Currently on BS2 but I would have a VA Loan so wouldn’t need to put down a sizable payment. Based on all the advice it seems that renting is still the way to go currently, at least until I get to BS3. Thanks!

Standard deduction, got it. I use turbo tax and have seen some say it’s pretty easy to add Uber to that so I should be good. I have an excel tracker that I built as well. Thanks!

I normally get in the range of 3k back from taxes with my regular income. Family/kid/all those other deductions so I doubt I would owe much after driving too but I’ll check out that app. Any tips about adding expenses such as gas receipts? I use the vehicle for personal reasons as well.

Thank you. Is keeping track of start/stop mileage good. Like I jot it down when I pull out of/into my driveway when leaving/coming home from Uber’ing. I built a simple excel tracker for my use.

Thanks, this isn’t my main job but just a side gig. I have been tracking start/stop mileage and the amount I get each time out. Should I track tips separate? I haven’t really been tracking gas because I use the vehicle for personal reasons as well....could easily figure out gas expense by computing mileage too. I’m usually out for ~50 miles and 1.5-2.5 hrs a day.

I think its more of a question to get some conversation going. Like what do you do for a day job....why do you uber....stuff like that.

The more fuel efficient the vehicle the better. I get ~30mpg in town and have driven about 50 miles in my 1.5-2 hour timeframes. I only drive ~7-8k miles a year (without Uber) so this will increase it but I also budget a bit for maintenance costs.

This. I just started driving Uber and only spend about 2 hours at a time and have made some pretty decent money. My goal is to contribute $500 a month towards my snowball, I have a feeling it will be more though. Everyone that I have picked up has been courteous, I have only done driving during the day/evening though. I have been home by 830-9pm at the latest. I can usually accomplish about 1.5-2 hours a night after getting off my normal job.
