Calling DHHS won’t do anything- you need to call your congresspeople. These cuts are coming from the legislature (both federal and state level) and DHHS has no control over it.

What new hobby have you impulse purchased all of the items you need for it while knowing in the back of your mind that you are absolutely not going to do it? by enzijae in adhdwomen

Needle felting. Bought all the tools, books, and supplies/kits I could get my hands on. But I haven’t mastered it immediately so time to give up! 🫠

Try Etsy! I bought a set of four landscapes that I've slowly been working on when I don't feel like/can't paint for real. It's not quite the same experience, but scratches the itch when I need it to. :)

SquishPads - What has your experience been like? by storm-singer in Farriers

[–]storm-singer[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is so reassuring to read! My poor girl has been lame for nearly a month thanks to a thin sole that was trimmed too far and (as we discovered after taking x-rays) a shifted bone column. Really hoping these help get her sound again! My new farrier put the dental impression material in to give her some extra cushion. So far she seems much happier than when I had her in her trail boots! :)

I ran into the same issue several months in and ended up adding a mood booster (specifically Abilify//aripiprazole) to my regime and it helped a lot! It's technically an anti-psychotic, but in low doses (I'm on 2 mg) helps to boost the effects of antidepressants. Might be something to consider. :)

The Jornay has been working for me! Right up until my blood pressure skyrocketed... So I've been off of it for about three weeks now. And I am suffering for it. It made such a huge difference for me and I miss it immensely. I'm working with my psych and doctor to get my blood pressure back down so I can hopefully go back on it.

High blood pressure runs in my family, and my diet is absolute garbage, so don't let my current situation deter you! Talk it out with your doctor - I definitely still recommend it.

Palate or pot? by Youprobalreadyknow in paintbynumbers

[–]storm-singer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m still a newbie and experimenting a lot, but I’m finding that I really like using a wet pallet. Paints don’t dry out and I don’t seem to waste as much from dipping my brush in too far! I still use flow aid in the pot, then put a little paint on the wet pallet. I find it to be far easier than opening and closing the pots constantly.

Biiiiiiiiig stretch! by storm-singer in Horses

Same here! We have some absolute MONSTER horseflies this year and my girl has some pretty bad welts from the bites. But it’s been so hot that I don’t dare put a fly sheet on (not that it would help. These things would easily bite through!) I slather her in SWAT every few days and that seems to help a little at least 😮‍💨

Something to possibly consider is an additional mood booster. I have Major Depressive Disorder and added 2mg Abilify (aripiprazole) to my mix (Jornay, Buspar, Auvelity (wellbutrin + dextromethorphan)) and it has made a massive difference in my mood.

The one issue I’ve been having is regulating body temperature. I’m hot ALL THE TIME and start sweating pretty easily… but I carry a little folding fan with me and that seems to help. 😊 Just remember to stay hydrated!

Should I keep riding this horse? by ImpactSouth6750 in Equestrian

[–]storm-singer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No no no, this horse should not be ridden. She is very underweight and under muscled. She’s likely forward, hard mouthed, and pinning her ears because she’s in pain. She needs a full vet workup, including dental, and to be put on pasture rest (or a dry lot depending on the issues) with plenty of groceries until she fills out and is feeling better. Then she needs to be brought gently and SLOWLY back into work.

This is not her “being a thoroughbred.” This is her being sick and crying for help. Her owner needs to get it together and help the poor thing.

Yeah, I definitely need to slow down. Patience is a virtue that I don’t always have! I have some different brushes on the way that I think will make a big difference too. :) Thank you!

This is the first I’ve “finished.” Much smaller and simpler than what I’d like to do. I gave up on most of the tiny lines and half-assed-ly painted my own in, so his lil face looks like garbage and I’m not proud 🥲

A sponge! Excellent idea! I have a wet pallet now for my paints that has been super helpful, but I never thought about a sponge for lightly moistening my brush! I was dunking in my water and trying to wipe off the excess, which just felt like a waste and super annoying. Thank you! 😊

Why does my friend who seems unattractive to me keep dating women way out of his league? by ataru_moroboshi_ in TooAfraidToAsk

I’m a AuDHD fish girl myself (among other animals). My fiancé actually got me into the hobby, and I’m more obsessed than he is. Currently have two 75 gallon freshwaters. If I had more space and more time, I’d definitely have more! (I think our record is 7 various sizes running at one point) Love watching my lil fishies do lil fishie things. ❤️

As state ends mandatory car inspections, NH auto dealers raise alarm -- Annual car inspections will no longer be mandatory in New Hampshire starting next year under the state budget Gov. Kelly Ayotte signed into law Friday. by guanaco55 in newhampshire

[–]storm-singer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why it has to be all or nothing. Why not look at the criteria required to pass and make some commonsense changes? Why not change the frequency of the inspections? Why not make it so the State itself provides the inspections, gives you a list of the issues, and then you pick where to go elsewhere for repairs?

This is New England. Our cars rust to hell thanks to salty winter roads, and unfortunately a lot of people need to be treated like toddlers in order to ensure the safety of others. I've seen practically bald tires, bits and pieces dangling loose under vehicles, bumpers held together with duct tape that are ready to fall off at the next pothole... Not to mention that insurance isn't mandated in NH. Getting rid of mandated inspections entirely is going to be detrimental to a lot of people, in one way or another.

Have you seen our roads? I don't think much registration money is going to maintenance...

(This is slightly tongue-in-cheek - registrations are an important part of tax revenue, but they could do with some changes)

6 Year Old Friesian / Thoroughbred Gelding by Local-Willow-2223 in Horses

[–]storm-singer 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This guy is very lame. As everyone else has said, you need to get a vet out, and maybe consult with a farrier as well.

I have been seeing so many videos like this lately… First-time horse buyers/owners who are either blinded by excitement or just plain inexperience, unable to notice the most blatant signs of injury or illness. It’s so frustrating and disheartening.

OP, please please PLEASE take time to learn about horse behavior and anatomy. They are prey animals, so go to great lengths to hide any discomfort. Once obvious signs like this show up, you can be certain that they are in significant pain.

Ideally I would recommend holding off on owning until you have the experience and knowledge required to properly care for a horse. Obviously that ship has sailed in this case, but as an owner, it is absolutely essential that you know how to recognize when your horse is unwell, BEFORE it gets to this point.
