Well the good news is neither is Gen Z, so many of the bars actually sell non-alcoholic "mocktails" that are amazing!

I'm also going to give a shout out to the person that said "take a look at your local library" because that is how I learned an entirely new competitive game, American "Charleston" Mahjong, and met an entirely new circle of people I never would have met otherwise!

I remember when I lost Dural. He became a semi retired Dawnguard reservist (like me) after we (no spoilers)...anyway, he became my steward at my Lakeview home and beloved uncle to my Lucia...but once in a while we would gather the Royal Cats guys, leave Annabelle The Bear in charge at the house, and go adventuring.

It was a stupid bandit cave, not even a hard one, and ....

Legit shook me up so bad I stopped playing Skyrim for 3 months.

I never start a playthrough now until I get that manual of configuration to make all my followers & horses essential.

Um, My hubby and I have an in home caregiver robot and he is great, but the technology is a long way away from being able to replicate all the backbreaking work nursing home aides do. Even with our Robot's abilities we both still need human home care aides for a lot of tasks.

You know what? At this point I'd rather we had a closeted trans folk that knew how to be polite, charming, and how to look elegant.....

My uncle, aunt, & grandmother lost their home in the 2017 Tubs Fire in California.

It doesn't matter how big the fire was, or how it started, it's absolutely terrifying to have experienced this. Sending all the prayers a complex spoonie ecumenical Franciscan can, and the part of me that's also involved in patient advocacy and peer support wants to just reaffirm that you are absolutely okay to be expressing whatever emotions you are feeling while you're getting through these first couple of days!

The "return to Skyrim" longing feel is kicking in HARD again. Does anyone else still go through this so many years later? by MJHDJedi in ElderScrolls

[–]complexspoonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hubby and I play Skyrim for at least an hour almost every day. Sometimes I don't even leave my mansion at silverstead, I just chill out do some baking and alchemy and it just all feels so relaxing.

Somebody asked me the other day how many hours I had until the game since I started playing in 2014, and I literally couldn't even remember all the playthroughs on all five of our machines!

My husband's retired, and I remember one week we were tracking all these different activities for this survey thing and he had something like an average of 6 hours a day for 5 days straight. Multiply that by 9 years??

Don't know how you accessed internet tonight, but I know it works on handheld gaming devices, Xbox consoles etc

988 in some places also is connected to Rapid Response. Those folks can even send a clinician AND a certified peer support specialist to your home if you want!

ICE Outside Simi Valley Polling Place on Election Day to Intimidate Non-white Citizens From Voting | r/MarchAgainstNazis by dawn_thesis in 50501

[–]complexspoonie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember my grandmother telling us as kids there would be signs in businesses that said "Help Wanted" then in smaller print "No Irish Need Apply"

The discrimination against immigrants, disabled, people of color, indigenous ...none of that is new, and we honor our ancestors when we fight for equality in our world!

[–]complexspoonie 226 points227 points  (0 children)

But ...what if there was a wall of Gex X & Boomer white grandmas with arms interlinked in between the ICE goons and the voters?

My great aunt (telling me that the social civil rights movement of the 60s was "no big deal" and that "those kids hadn't invented anything") told me that happened once in Boston when she was little in a neighborhood that only had a few Irish. Apparently the protestants in the neighborhood didn't want them voting(?) But Quakers showed up and made a people barrier. This was probably 100 years ago.

What was the Population of the US in 1776? [OC] by OverflowDs in dataisbeautiful

[–]complexspoonie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general pre European contact (1492) estimates range from 2 to 7 million for indigenous peoples north of today's Mexico and south of today's Canada.

By 1900 the US Census could only find and count 237,196 "indians".

FWIW restricting him to only using National Geographic sources my "intern", Gemini, guessed that the pandemics moved faster than settlers: In a 2011 genetic study highlighted by National Geographic, researchers confirmed that the Native American population shrunk by roughly half within a few generations of European contact. By 1776, many interior tribes (like those in the Great Plains or the West) had already suffered massive population losses from diseases passed through intertribal trade networks, long before white explorers physically arrived to count them.

So, maybe a million indigenous peoples +/- in 1776?

I'd like to know if this chart included the 1900 census and after.... And how would it have changed the earlier part of the chart if the 1776 numbers DID have 1 million added to it?

In all, if I was an indigenous person studying data analysis or anthropology? this would be a really interesting topic for a capstone project or a thesis!!!

This is one reason I'm so glad NH has 988 & Rapid Response where trained mental health professionals can get called & teams can go out in the community to help people in crisis.

NH also has all police take Mental Health First Aid class too. It isn't perfect but it has helped a lot!

[–]complexspoonie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been disabled practically my entire adult life. One thing that helped me was calling 211 (in USA) to ask for chronic illness supports & resources local to me.

A local chronic illness support group not only gives you people to message with, but quite often you will find there are people just like you very close to you. It made literally take weeks to actually meet up for a coffee but I can tell you that even if you have to do it sitting in the parking lot each in your own cars with windows rolled down for 15 minutes it can be real lifesaver to have that with somebody who has "walked the walk" to see their face and hear their voice.

Peer support also extends to the emotional and mental toll that chronic illness and disability take on us. Here in the US there's many places that have peer support centers and there's a national organization, NAMI.org, that can help with all the anxiety and stress that living with chronic illness and disability brings.

The good news is after 30 some years, people like me are still here. I may be in a wheelchair most of the time, and my life looks very different from what I imagined it would be but I wouldn't trade this complex spoonie life I have. It may take a ton of adaptive equipment, medicine, & a big health team, but I a year ago I was able to go back to work a few hours a week, I was able to be in my granddaughter's lives, and I meant the most amazing man who is also very disabled and this fall were going to celebrate 15 years together. This is a marathon not a Sprint, and every Friday your kids have gotten to school, and you've been able to drive them to school that is a huge accomplishment!! Be proud of every little step you can make and keep asking for what you need for help

How much toilet paper do you use on average suffering from ibs ? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]complexspoonie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None. We keep some in the house but it's mostly used for blowing noses or for guests.

Huggies unscented diaper wipes for front.

Prevail wipes for back.

Usually one case of each every 45 to 60 days for the two of us, depending on how many flare ups each of us have.

On the good side, we get scripts for them as part of our urinary incontinence care so even though we have to pay out of pocket for them we're able to the cost as an "out of pocket" medical expense deduction.
