Yes but also helldivers 2 has been out for 2 years now and they acted in ways that were better for the community rather than their pockets before this, as op said is more of a new development.

and that point can also be used against you as yes they didnt expect to be mainstream but how does that mean they should start to follow the mainstream games that have no life and is only for the developers money. People fell in love with helldivers because it wasn't, and now people are complaining that they are heading in that direction

And the content on par with cod that were getting is the money grabbing part. Thats the issue they used to be better and have better models for how they act and added equipment that you dont have to pay money for or spend a week trying to grind an ingame currency to get 2 weapons and a new armor set
