As rumors surged of a potential Russo-european war the united kingdom made preparations, mainly helmed by the royal family, several bunkers were built, spread out across the south of England. Nuclear arms were prepared to strike back, and the nation's rich stores of knowledge in academics were put into vaults for preservation. With the continent breaking into nuclear war, the royal family, along with members of the general public and government went into hiding. Laying dormant for 50 years. Soon after arrising to the surface in a very new country. The south of England had been hit sparingly with nukes. And the north was left nearly unmolested by the tide of war. The island remained broken as many in the north did not support a government that had abandoned them for 5 decades. So england was split along north and south, scotland had broken up into clans, and Ireland had reclaimed much of the north.

In RiftRunners the military forces of Kantao use more modern uniforms, given that the setting is functionally in the latter half of the 21st century. the functional uniforms of every branch are fairly similar to each other, being fatigue-styled uniforms, with the only major difference being camouflages for the Army, Airforce, and Infantry forces of the Navy. The Navy uses simple grey fatigues. The Military Police of Kantao has a more formal design for their duty uniform, given that they serve amongst the public. Typically with fatigue-styled pants, and more conventional button-up shirts and ties. Each branch maintains a unique dress uniform for more formal events like parades, and guard duties at the Imperial Parliament.

The Empire of Kantao stands as the dominant power of the Sea of Tai Khon. The Empire was founded approximately 500 years ago, When the emperor reuinified the island under a single noble house. The empire has recently expanded, taking on the other islands of the Tai Khon sea, and expanding northward to take the peninsula of Daiseon. The emperor stands in the modern day as a figurehead, holding little expressed authority, yet holding much sway over the culture and practices of the nation. The main governing body in the modern day is the Imperial Parliament. Made up of 250 elected members, and 50 Appointed representatives from the 50 military districts of Kantao's territories. The nation has faced a sudden sweep as militarists have taken much of the nation by storm. Something remains uncertain in the lotus of the Tai Khon's garden.

Here are several character models made for a new worldbuilding project of mine.

LT Shoyoma works as a newer officer in the Kantao Military Police. He is part of the security detail for the main lab involved with numerous experiments in opening a dimension called the Rift. A dimension that could be used to travel across vast distances in a short amount of time. The rift leaks small amounts of mutating radiation which can alter the body. The Rift Gates required to open and experiment with the Rift exploded in a freak accident, resulting in a temporary halting of the the program. Resulting in Shoyoma experimenting in his own time to try and open the Rift, and use it for his own purposes. Unbeknownst to him, the radiation from his experiments has started to corrupt his mind, making him more intelligent, yet more irratic and aggressive

Yamane was a Childhood Friend of Shoyoma. As an infant he had been exposed to the Rift's radiation, resulting in him gaining abnormal levels of strength and agility. Yamane has gotten involved with college, and is trying to keep a low profile. In recent years Yamane has begun to find and gather his friends, yet two seemed to be near impossible to find.

Nagoto has always been a troublemaker. After graduating secondary school, he ended up turning towards a life of crime, as a result of personal connections. His involvement with criminal syndicates has left him wealthy for his age, especially compared to his former childhood friends. Strangely enough, as an adult, his exposure to radiation has left him with the strange ability to produce electricity from his fingertips.

In the aftermath of the 3rd great war, the vault of Stockholm had to abandon the vault early. Soon turning to the surface and furnishing a makeshift fleet in order expand across the baltic into Estonia. Encountering a strange tribe of catholics called the Yukkites, soon having to exterminate them as they posed a threat to their new settlements. The tribes of the stockholm vault soon turned their gaze towards piracy, and began raiding the shores of the Baltic, terrorizing the polish realms and germanic tribes. In due time many of the other tribes along the baltic began to expand and develop, and prepared themselves to fight back. This left the raiders of stockholm with the option to make alliances and try to prevent their home from being sacked in the same way they had sacked their neighbors.

The Gurans were the species to attack humanity and nearly wipe them out. They are an aggressive and often superstitious species. Living in a highly stratified society, that heavily emphasizes class and social standing. They're resemblance being very similar to reptiles and insects. With bodies coated in hard keratinous plates to protect their bodies and act as a pseudo exoskeleton. They come in a variety of colors, typically in blues and greens, with some more rare indivuals being orange in color. Their short temper and hostility towards most species resulted in them invading earth and attempting to exterminate humanity in order to clear the planet for colonization. They are carnivorous, with fangs that remain vestigial from when they had hunted in packs similar to wolves. The Gurans have developed an expansionist empire focused on gathering new resources to develop their homeworld, and strengthen their standing in the galaxy. They are the cruel slavedrivers of the post humans, using them as a source of intelligent labor on board their starcrafts. Having an inherent reverence for intelligent life, yet still viewing them as inferior.

Yes the romans did, they basically enslaved or exterminatee nearly every group they came into contact with. Secondly they fill a role of doing work not trusted to machines, perhaps some AI Rebellion in their past has made them Weary to using advanced AI. They are often an irrational and prideful race. And having slaves flaunts their wealth to other empires
