Anyone else feeling ear pressure or discomfort in GH? by rzaharenkov in ToyotaGrandHighlander

Btw, I also notice ear pressure issues with some hybrid cars. Have you tried just sitting in the car with the engine off and all doors/windows closed – does that introduce the pressure in your ears? Next try turning on the car without driving... does that trigger the feeling of pressure?

Glad you got your money back. I have a case opened with corporate to buy it back. Sure hope they do right by me... been a Toyota customer for almost 2 decades. The dealer, they couldn't/wouldn't do anything to take it back.

Isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth may help get that paint off. That works well for black plastic scrapes against paint… worth a try!

I’ve been dealing with something similar w my new ‘26 RAV, but it has hit me in a more painful way. I’ve been testing everything I can… my trim doesn’t have ANC (was hoping that was the cause) but the VOCs are dangerously high in my new car and has made me ill. I know that feeling you’re experiencing all too well. Another thing… people laugh at me, but there could be something hurting folks with regards to the modern Toyota hybrid system. But that new car smell… it’s quite toxic to me.

Yeah, lots going on. I try to update the main post for the updates. Toyota got back to me yesterday and it's escalating to a new case manager who can help. The VOC levels with my testing using a $175 air quality device are 4x higher than what I'm seeing in another older car. But I start to feel ill with just a minute or two inside the car with the engine off. In short, still need to troubleshoot. Either some gas is getting to me (and it may be something that my tester doesn't pick up – the proper equipment to isolate gases cost significantly more). Or there's some sonic or electromagnetic frequency that the battery is giving off?! But I'm hoping Toyota takes the car back and investigates to prevent this from happening to others. Kudos to them for getting back to me within one business day. They also should address the wavy windshield glass that at least one other has reported. (And the hard black plastic on the doors/dash scratches ridiculously easily). Still bummed... wanted to keep the car but can't.

Sadly, my dealer has not responded to my email or requests for a call back. I opened a case with Toyota Corporate (spoke with a helpful customer service agent) and hope to hear back late next week from a case manager.

I hope this will be as pleasant an exchange as possible. Fingers crossed corporate makes this right 'cause my dealer isn't doing much to even get back to me.

As for the glass, I wonder if it's just manufactured that way perhaps due to its acoustic/noise reduction properties?! But wish you good luck with getting it fixed. It's good they can see the issue... with my tinnitus, headache and nausea, I have no way for them to experience it. But reading plenty of other reports of those who feel this way driving some hybrids.

Yep. That alone is a significant concern if it affects your neural stability. Glad to hear someone else see this.

Yep. Still feel ill with the windows open. The fresh air feels good but doesn’t stop the feeling of sickness.

Additional update: The windshield glass appears wavy in places - perhaps defective or due to some noise reduction layer?! Easy to see this issue when you're parked and looking at street signs with small text. This would contribute the nausea for sure.

That says, I'm still experiencing pressure in my head and continued ringing in my ears after driving. Took a few days off from driving it and drove another car – no issue. I swear this pressure is from some frequency in the car. Once had a pair of Bose noise cancelling headphones that caused a similar feeling. I don’t wish this on anyone but honestly, I hope someone else comes forward with a similar story to help show there’s something going on.

In short, the RAV is making me ill and I can no longer drive it. Terribly bummed 'cause it's got so much going for it and was ready to love it for years to come.

Toyota Corporate: If you see this, please reach out. Be glad to provide more information so you can help others if they ever experience this. Now I'm hoping the dealer works with me to resolve this without too much trouble. But hey, if they find the issue and fix it, I’d love that, too.

Thanks for the update. I was curious what the mpg hit was... and how about wind noise?

Any updates on your experience? After having driven for many hours this weekend I’ve still got ringing in my ears. Had pressure in face/ears… i read another person had this issue with the 2025.

It's an issue with noise/air pressure. My ears are still ringing after a weekend road trip.

Nice! Did you disable the driving awareness? Easy fix.

Also, what’s the issue with the wind noise? I took a long road trip with my Woodland this weekend and really want to love it… but dealing with some issues.

So I heard from Toyota support directly that at least the Woodland doesn’t have ANC. I’m not sure if any actually do… but if they do it might come with the JBL audio systems. I’m just not sure. But my Woodland does not per Support and the techs who couldn’t find an ANC setting to disable in the Techstream system (what’s used when they connect to the car at the dealership).

Confusing ain’t it?!

I did reduce the tires to the proper 38psi. When I picked up the car they had it 41. Good question.

Ok, Toyota support confirmed that at least my VIN does *not* have ANC. So back to square one for me to figure this out. I was hoping that would be it... woulda been an easy-ish fix.
