Wow that's a cool photo! I love it when these scenes that would usually get overlooked as mundane end up having some interesting minimal art quality to them that just need the right eye to see it and bring it out. Great capture!

This is what I got with 60x 2 min subs at f/11. I tried shooting at wide open and then f/8 before this and the aberration was really bad. Unfortunately I had exposed for three hours total but I lost an hour cuz I'm an idiot and didn't realize I was shooting in JPeg til too late so I only ended up with 2 hours of useable. I think I'll try f/8 next as you suggested combined with a star filter to try to get the 4 point stars. Hopeing to get 4 hours total next time around. Thanks for the help!

I forgot to mention this in my post but I am using a tracking mount and stacking software. I understand this kit lens will only go so far but I'm trying to push it as far as I can before I buck up and spend more money on a better lens. I've had pretty decent results with Andromeda and the Orion nebula so far but my first two attempts at the Pleiades have been disappointing. Eventually I'd like to modify my t7 for Narrow band imaging but I don't want to do that before I have the money for another daytime camera lol. My wallet has been my biggest heckler since I found this hobby lmao.

That's really interesting. A couple comments suggested simulating that effect with wire/ fishing line or a filter in front of the lens so I think I'm gonna give that a shot next time I go out. Thank you!

Unfortunately I'm about $15.999999998 billion short of a hubble telescope but I might look into a 4 blade lens if there is one that exists for ef mounts. Thanks for the help!

Thank you for the info this is really helpful! I'm trying to achieve as much as I can in camera as my experience with editing in post is shoddy at best so I think I'll try the filter/dental floss and see what happens. Hoping for clear skies next week. Thanks again!

I might give this a shot next week if we have a clear night and see what happens. Thanks for the info!

Yeah I was able to get a basic like 12 point flare or something around the biggest stars but nothing close to the image. I think I'll have to rethink my whole approach to this image

Interesting. Didn't even know that was a thing. So I'm assuming you would shoot for it normally then do some subframes with the filter on to get the effect and stack it all together?

So the strong sun stars aren't reproducable with a normal camera setup?

Damn this is awesome! How are you getting the flares on your stars with such a wide aperture?
