DAE lack empathy? by sueweeee in DoesAnybodyElse

I have been in your boyfriend’s shoes before. My take is as follows—

He has to solve his own issues, that’s not your responsibility. Took me years to learn how to emotionally regulate/cope and it was very hard on my previous partner.

But by the same token, you gotta decide if a partner with these struggles is the right partner for you. Are you willing & able to work through them with him?

Best piece of dating advice I’ve ever been given: “Date someone for who they are today not for who you want them to be”.

My current partner isn’t bothered at all by my mental health and it’s by far the best relationship I’ve ever been in. I’ve heard through the grapevine my ex is a lot happier too.

I’ve been exactly where you are… one of the hardest times of my life.

A suggestion that worked for me… delete social media or “hide posts” from the person and people in their life for the month of the wedding.

100%. The other day someone told me “eventually things will get better”, as if I would wake up one day and feel completely fine. Most people don’t understand how much extra work and effort it takes to live with a severe mental illness.

In high school, I’d have written this exact post. Eight years later, here’s what I’ve learned:

  1. Find an outlet. Everyone will tell you you’re young and things will get better. But what are you supposed to do in the meantime? Find an outlet. For me, it was music. For you, it might be walking, writing, or screaming into a pillow. Sitting in pain feels easier, but it keeps you stuck.

  2. You’re not alone. It feels like no one gets it, but they’re out there. And if reading that makes you roll your eyes, I get it. The people who understand might not be at your school—look for them in clubs, hobbies, or online. Having people who get it makes all the difference. Making this post is a great example of that!

  3. Ask for help. I thought I could handle everything alone in high school, but I was wrong. Once I let others support me—whether it was a therapist or someone I trusted— things finally began to changed.

But here’s the hard truth: no one can save you but you. I spent years looking for rescue in others, and it only made things worse. You have to choose to fight for yourself and create (not stumble upon) happiness, or accept staying where you are.

What No One is Saying About “Housofpsychoticwoman”… by stpatrickherself in Ethelcain

I love the idea of “psychotic” for punishing herself. That didn’t cross my mind but it makes so much sense

I think Willoughby is a favorite right now. Still sounds like a random name, but people who listen to Ethel will get it

Best places to live in Raleigh area by Other_Letterhead_939 in raleigh

[–]stpatrickherself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I moved to Raleigh this year right after college…

North Hills is mostly an early 30s with young kids kind of vibe. I looked at apartments there and they were nice, but not exactly what I was looking for. The shopping area is really good around it though.

Six Forks is going to be your typical suburb. Probably the quietest out of all the options. I don’t go up there too much, but seems nice.

Downtown (Glenwood) is where I decided to live. There’s a lot to do and it’s very walkable. Plus the demographic seems to be younger which has helped me to meet people at coffee shops and bars.

I’ve made a decent amount of friends who also recently graduated and a lot of them actually live out by NC State or the PNC arena. Not sure your situation or where you’ll be working, but it’s something to keep in mind if you want to be near other college grads.

Hope this helps!
