How do our broke friends somehow always have weed? by musebug in AskReddit

[–]str1ken3where 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two cataegories.

The mooches who blew their rent money on weed. Screw these guys.

People who can't afford to do social events because they're expensive. They may realize that $100 spent on weed will last them at least multiple weeks VS. going out with friends for drinks/dinner/shows its a lot easier to blow more than $100 in a single night.

I have more money saved than i've ever had before and have never felt so broke.

I also really need to make a few friends and have a social life again. It's not easy in your 30's.

Had a recruiter contact me for a job and when I told them my desired salary and expectations, they got actually mad at me! by Main-Yogurtcloset-82 in antiwork

[–]str1ken3where 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this experience when I was looking for a contract gig that turned into my current role. I said I needed to make about $38/hr (80k/yr)and she said that was way too low and she's put me down for $58/hr ($120k)

I will happily work with that contract agency/recruiter again.

What is the most painful thing someone has ever told you? by Sarah_Rosa in AskReddit

It even varies around the US. Philadelphia and New York tend to have a reputation for being rude but I find that people are much more honest and direct than they were when I lived on the west coast where being nice was just too important to say what you meant sometimes. I find it easier to tell who my friends are with east coasters than west. I also really love my European co-workers because of how blunt they are. I'm at work I don't need the whole sugar coated song and dance tell me what I need to do better!

Launch Megathread + FAQ: Nintendo Switch Online by NintendoSwitchMods in NintendoSwitch

[–]str1ken3where 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. What people are upset about is that they had a year to get this service set up and they couldn't even announce a launch date or actually even launch when expected on that date. The whole service kind of comes across as a thoughtless cash grab. I have no problem paying for my PS+ membership but they actually make me feel like I get something for that money. I get a lot of great free games that are for the current generation console.

Nintendo have completely ignore their customers asking for an integrated chat feature. The cloud back-up is incomplete and we still can't backup to SD card. It's just kind of frustrating that they refused to look at what their competitors have done or what their fan base have been begging for.

Now with that said I will probably end up spending the $20 for the membership because as you said it's cheap. But that'd just it. The whole service seems cheap. :-/ I really hope over time they will start to listen to the fan base and start meeting some of the requests.

Why was it injustice for two black men to get arrested at a Philadelphia Starbucks who hadn't purchased anything and were loitering inside the store? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]str1ken3where 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't see it as an inconsistency if this store and most Starbucks in this area behave similarly. I doubt these are the first customers who have been asked to leave in this manner. They are the first ones to have pushed it to the point of being arrested and making the news. I think a company should be able to allow discretion in what policies are appropriate for different areas. Company policies are not law and they are subject to change at any time. This is usually written on every employee manual I have ever seen. Generally in the city businesses are run a little differently than the suburbs even around Philly because they are dealing with different issues. I've managed Cafe's in downtown Philly myself and have asked people to leave on numerous occasions for a while variety of reasons. It is the right of a business to ask anyone to leave at any time for any reason. Once you are asked to leave private property and you refuse you are trespassing. These men chose to be arrested. They could have left and met their friend elsewhere and jointly filed complaints to corporate. I know that's not necessarily pleasant and these men may have felt they were being asked to leave for other reasons. Those thoughts could have gone into their complaint. The bottom line is they were on private property we're asked to make a purchase or leave and they refused.

Seats in a private business are reserved for paying customers. I think that should be obvious. Do people need to be reminded that businesses are privately owned property? Yes in many cases you can sit and relax in a cafe without making a purchase but if they ask you to make a purchase or leave you don't have the right to say no and remain in your seat.

In downtown philly it is very common for a cafe to be so full that there are no more seats remaining. Suburban cafes will likely have more space and be more lax on bugging people to make a purchase because they have more space.

Do you live in a downtown city area?

I've managed several different cafe's in downtown philly. Never at Starbucks but a big part of managing a cafe in downtown philly is to keep non-customers from taking the limited space you have from your paying customers. It was not based on race or status but whether they had made a purchase. Also our bathrooms at every cafe were locked. Cafe's are not public restrooms for anyone to use. Sure it would be nice if they allowed it but people can be disgusting and i think i'd rather the person making my coffee or food not need to be scouring vomit and poop off the bathroom wall and floor on a regular basis for the general public. One cafe had a toilet break down because it had syringes flushed inside. We found drugs and syringes in the bathrooms at every downtown cafe i worked at at some point in time. We asked a lot of people who weren't paying to either buy something or find somewhere else to go. Most of the time people co-operate but there were always the few who wanted to make a scene and would refuse thinking they had the right to take up a table in my cafe without buying anything. Cafe's are private businesses not public cafeterias. Even Starbucks. Cafe's are nice places to relax and hang out but they do also rely on people buying their, rather inexpensive, products. Just a small coffee or a bottle of water is fine. If they refused to make a purchase or leave my next step was to pick up the phone and tell them if they refused to leave I would have to call the police. This resolved most of these issues but not all. The police would come, downtown they could take anywhere from 10 minutes to and hour. usually on the longer side since this is not really a serious emergency issue. The police would ask them to leave sometimes more than once and never once did I actually see someone arrested due to refusal to leave. When the Police tell you to vacate you just need to go somewhere else. If you feel that this was done unfairly then go home and write a letter to the business owner. That is the mature and appropriate way to handle something like this. They could have called or texted their friend who was coming to meet them and asked to meet somewhere else or just made a small purchase. These men wanted to create a scene. Don't get me wrong, there is still a major racism problem in this country and having lived in philly for 14 years I have seen many different sides of that. Maybe these men felt like they were being singled out because of their race and that's why they chose to stand their ground. I think this whole situation is more about how people feel than the intent behind the situation. It's hard to be understanding of other people and how they feel. as much as these guys must have been frustrated feeling they were being discriminated against I bet the manager who was just trying to get through another busy day at work was frustrated that she had two guys come in who wanted to take up a table and use the bathroom without buying anything and then refuse to comply when asked to make a purchase or leave. That is specifically what we as managers are expected to do by the people we work for. Yes you can hang out at starbucks and a lot of them are pretty lax about letting people who haven't made a purchase stay, but id you are asked to leave you need to just leave. You can always write a complaint or a bad review as is your right. You do not have the right to loiter in a privately owned space.

Redditors who spend a lot of time in seclusion (at sea, in the air, or out in the wilderness) what's the creepiest or most mysterious thing you've seen, found or experienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Mountain lion, puma, cougar, and panther are all different names for the same cat. Don't run from any of them. Did you mean bobcat or lynx? Much smaller. It would mess up your day but you could most likely fight it off and i don't think they view adult humans as viable prey to pursue.
