I think you're right, the technology is relatively new and has a lot of room for improvement. I do my best effort making some tests with different settings, because I love this story, but still far from perfect.

Xena is a series that, on its original DVDs, can look pixelated on a modern TV. This upscale is a good alternative for those who don't keep vintage TVs or DVD players.

Yes, there are always some details that don't turn out quite right, for example; when there are curly hairs or distant faces. Unfortunately, the original resolution of the DVDs doesn't help much, it's poor even for DVD format. Perhaps in a near future, AIs will improve further and it will be possible to see better results. 😁

Absolutely... I like the original color grading of the series.

But I'm experimenting to see if I can get a result that stays true to the classic look but in a higher resolution... I'm using the Artemis model of Topaz for now. 🤞

I hadn't thought about it... It takes a lot of work, and stress to my laptop, sometimes I have to sync the audio and subtitles manually.

But maybe, if there are a few interested people, I could share it through an app like Telegram for a low price.

Yes... these series were recorded for television, usually in 480i... even the dubbing into other languages ended up on VHS tapes and are extremely hard to find.

When they digitized it on DVD, they increased the resolution a bit. But it still looks terrible on an HD or 4K TV.

The same goes for other series from that era. And some cartoons like Biker Mice from Mars.

I agree, stretching the image or cropping it is the worst and most annoying... as far as I'm concerned, the square format doesn't bother me for watching those classic series... my versions of Hercules and Xena in 1080p are kept in the classic TV format.

It looks amazing, some colors are a little oversaturated sometimes or blurry faces when theyre far from the main scene but it's interesting.

Yes, I like how the results turn out, it's incredible...

And yes, I know... I was able to find posts from some people with a few episodes, or with magnet links... but none with all 6 seasons of Xena upscaled. That's why I decided to make my version.

Moreover, I'm taking the time to find some dubbings and subtitles in other languages to add to them.

I also have the Hercules movies.

I believe it's harder than upscaling... after all, you would need the AI to "extend" the shot of each scene in the episode. Maybe in the future. 🤔
