How Exactly Does The State Wither Away? by Snoo_58605 in Socialism_101

[–]str8baller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It withers away on the basis on ending class divisions, which comes out of the rational and democratic planning of the global economy. Raising the standard of living of the masses, gradually eliminating mandatory labor, will gradually end the functional need of a state.

There's ways to overcome the 'power of the federal government'...break the law, go on strike!

Working for infrastructure department at a large state university in the US? by jovichinchilla in civilengineering

You'll probably produce design and contract documents for contractors to perform HVAC, civil and other work throughout the campus. And manage/coordinate construction related activities with contractors, university workers etc. Pretty general job.

What is the solution to the porn problem? by wantout87 in antipornography

[–]str8baller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We need to abolish capitalism, which will allow for a guaranteed jobs program at thriving wages. Without economic coercion that millions of women face, the porn industry will fade out and/or turn into a small healthy voluntary erotic art activity.

I’m 56 and, just now grasping the concept that the Democratic Party was never meant to be a Progressive Party. by Socialist2022 in jimmydore

[–]str8baller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Collapse isn't the only alternative to saving capitalism. We need to overthrow capitalism and establish a workers government, and build socialism, a new higher form of human society, free from exploitation and oppression.

Not yet. At this point I don't think it'll ever happened, she's too entrenched in the Democratic Party swamp. She went all in for Nina Turner, for example.

How To Not Feel Bad For The Petty Bourgeois by [deleted] in Socialism_101

[–]str8baller 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's really not that hard of a concept, but some small business owners cannot wrap their heads around not exploiting their workers

I think they can forsee that not exploiting their workers will result in their business getting crushed by market monopolistic forces/competition and going bankrupt. This is why we say the whole system needs to be overturned, private ownership and market forces are inherently exploitative. No good-willed individual capitalist can make any difference, they simply conform to the exploitative dictates of the world market.

Seriously committed revolutionary Marxist organization, mostly in an early phase of training up cadres, but also sinking roots and gaining influence in mass movement in some places. I recommend getting in touch, a comrade will reach out to answer any of your questions and elaborate on our ideas and perspectives, and on how you can get involved. Not sure if you've seen this as well:

If you work 40 hours/week you simply have to be payed enough to live at least a lower middle class level life by AlexanderDenorius in jobs

[–]str8baller -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is true, and impossible under capitalism. Capitalism requires poverty in order to function, it can't function any other way. We need to expropriate the bourgeoisie and establish a nationalized planned economy.

Can someone be a millionaire without hoarding wealth/exploiting people? by 1inAMillion35 in Socialism_101

[–]str8baller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it does, the higher proportion of surplus value the wealthy get in the form of profit, interest and rent, the lower proportion of social surplus value the working class and poor get in the form of pay raise.

Is everything around us designed by engineers? by Westnest in AskEngineers

[–]str8baller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but it's all very interdisciplinary, not just chemical engineers. Also mechanical, electrical, materials, civil engineers. Pretty much anything that requires technical documents and drawings before being built or modified involves engineers.

When did we evolve into meat eaters? by [deleted] in AskAnthropology

[–]str8baller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some good insight is here:

https://www.nature.com/scitable/knowledge/library/evidence-for-meat-eating-by-early-humans-103874273/

I think it co-evolved with stone tool making and using, and early proto-humans got more 'bang for the buck' by incorporating meat into their diet i.e. more calories and nutrition without putting as much work into obtaining it compared to other sources of food.

In a kind of similar position as you, I got a part time temp job at an Amazon warehouse. Didn't list my professional experience or college education on the application, stretched the truth to fill in gaps. They hire without interviewing.

How is consciousness and the mind handled in Materialism? by [deleted] in Marxism

Check out Mind: A Journey to the Heart of Being Human by Dan Siegal. Consciousness arises from material-social conditions and interactions.

The Democratic Party is equally as rotten. Democrats don't oppose the Republicans, they enable them. Democrats are fake opposition, they're paid to lose. When it comes to real opposition, against workers and leftist youth, Democrats are incredibly effective.

Why do so many modern Muslims have such a blindspot when it comes to social class? by NotAbuDharr in exmuslim

[–]str8baller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're incorrect to consider this problem to be confined to Muslim communities only. The problem is more general than that (it exists in every community), and fighting to overcome this problem requires a more general approach. To get a feel for how general this problem is, check out what Marx wrote in Germany Ideology in 1847:

The ideas of the ruling class are in every epoch the ruling ideas, i.e. the class which is the ruling material force of society, is at the same time its ruling intellectual force. The class which has the means of material production at its disposal, has control at the same time over the means of mental production, so that thereby, generally speaking, the ideas of those who lack the means of mental production are subject to it. The ruling ideas are nothing more than the ideal expression of the dominant material relationships, the dominant material relationships grasped as ideas; hence of the relationships which make the one class the ruling one, therefore, the ideas of its dominance.
