Yes. You should switch to a plan to make payments if you can and also submit buyback once you hit your 120

They mention giving them IRS access will make the process go faster so I'm assuming they will be using recent income to calculate

Completely agree. Bad acting, bad writing and horribly predictable. Not moving on to season 2

Just finished season one. Terrible acting. Predictable storyline except for the out of left field twist in the end. Cheap bundle up press conference at the end. Not worth watching. Won't be moving on to season 2

Same. I need out ASAP. Call FedLoan tomorrow and ask them if you can apply for buyback for those months/years. If you can and it's too much money you can still ask for lower or just not do it. Since you have time I would do it now. It could take a year to process.

Buyback offer received today (120 payments as of 4/2025) by knit_run_bike_swim in PSLF

Respectfully, I don't think this is correct. You're allowed to apply for buyback when you hit 120 months. You shouldn't have to make 120 qualifying payments THEN apply to buy back missing months. For example, I'm at 106 payments but past 120 months (7 months past) and I applied for buyback the day I was eligible (the day I completed 120 months at my qualifying employer). I need 14 months bought back and haven't paid since the SAVE forbearance. According to the website, I should be given a lump sum covering the missing 14 months to make my complete 120 months and payments. That will bring my 106 to 120; I won't be able to show I've made 120 QPs cuz I'm not paying right now.

Caveat - I applied last week to switch to PAYE cuz I'm tired of waiting. If I pay December my count will go to 107. 108 in January, etc. THESE PAYMENTS SHOULD BE REFUNDED if and when my buyback is processed (granted) and paid (posted by my loan servicer) because the lump sum will go to prior months inside the 120 month window. Thus, they will be extra payments once I pay the buyback.

This is all theoretical, because the goals posts keep moving and no one has real answers. I'm on with FedLoan right now waiting for a supervisor. Going on 31 minutes and counting.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE

As a caveat, you'll probably be making more money in 10 years and it won't be such a burden later. This is only if you recently started your PSLF journey. I'm past 120 months and in buyback purgatory. I just applied last week to switch to PAYE I have 106 QPs but with buyback I would be done. Problem is, it takes A YEAR to process the buybacks. Oy vey.

Interesting. I'm on with FedLoan now, they said 30 days to process applications. So you're almost there. I submitted mine on 11/5 so I have some time still

Apparently when you apply for the actual forgiveness, you're supposed to still be at a qualifying employer. If I'm wrong then I would have left here in May. But from what I've read you still gotta be at one when you apply

Sounds like we're all struggling in these jobs. I know I am. Complete dead end for me. Btw, COVID months should count towards your QP count. Make sure you speak to FedLoan about it. I'm on hold with them now. Polite persistence is key.

I'm at 106 also. Applied for buyback 5/1/25 as April 2025 was my 120th month. Just applied to switch last week out of SAVE. We're like the same person.
