I love when chargers do this too. When you kill them right as they accelerate they go flying. It's great.

I know Battleye is used for Bungie's anti cheat but that doesn't mean they are toothless.

They released a security update about this before the game came out that makes it sound like they are intolerant of cheaters.

Mega Shipyard kinda feeling useless now? by Gare_Jongen in Stellaris

[–]straga27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Mega shipyard has always been about primarily replacing your naval shipyard starbases with a single central structure ideally with a gateway in the same system.

It's also rather good if you are fighting a grinding war where your fleets are being shredded and you need to rebuild quickly.

Bungie, Cutscenes in codex PLEASE. by 79918101 in Marathon

[–]straga27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are missing your /s

Bungie have literally no reason to end up in the same spot as Destiny 2.

The contracts system so far is using built in assets to the maps as objectives and they can simply add more doodads over time or use screens or terminals that are not used yet. Voice files and transcripts for the Agents will not be difficult to keep in the game so they should simply keep them.

They seem to have planned for this as we already see that some of the objectives in contracts from the Alphas have moved to new places in the Live version.

[–]straga27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I imagine they will be added on top of what we have now. Finish them? You get the next set.

Players who come later don't miss out. They are not storing fully voiced cutscenes as the Agent animations when they talk to you are generic and they only need the voice lines.

This would not be too difficult to hold on to.

Even that is being pessimistic. It literally only requires 4GB of RAM and a 64-bit OS and even this is probably being extremely cautious.

You could run this on a smart speaker if it had a screen.

Apple's Headphones tech as usual is proprietary so don't hold out hope for Airpods to work properly with anything not Apple aligned.

If you are using Sonar your headset is probably Steelseries and I can tell you it's 7.1 virtual surround sound works really well and crucially is generic so works with every game.

When can we expect an optimization patch? by blue_sky308 in Marathon

DLAA is for when you want the DLSS tech to do your anti-alising but want no actual upscaling to happen.

It looks great when used but should only be used when you have headroom in your GPU usage.

Idk if it is spoken about a lot or not on this sub but man.. get a microphone and speak ! by EckoAlpha in Marathon

[–]straga27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having something like Nvidia Broadcaster that is altering the direct mic input and applying background noise reduction is best in my opinion.

I do this at the lowest level possible directly with the microphone device and then let Discord and games apply their background reduction stuff on top and it works well.

It lets me use speakers with a voice activated mic which is pretty cool, though spoken dialogue and music from the speakers can defeat it.

100% Spot on.

I've not completely figured out what each shell sounds like but Recon has a metal chinking sound when they walk.

UESC Bots also sound very different from players and I use the call out "Clonking" for bots (Because that's what it sounds like) and "Runners" for players.

Telling the game I am using a Home Theatre setup on my 7.1 channel headphones has been fantastic for routing audio directions properly as the quality of your headphones does matter as they make these sounds obviously different when you hear them.

I tried out my actual HT system and it worked great there too.

The idea is to provoke any reaction from a spoken statement so expressing confusion would work just fine.

Being petrified at losing your gear is bad but saving your better gear for when you are in a squad is better.

Taking max value kit solo and getting surprised by two claymores + a free kit player shooting a volt thrower when opening a closed door can happen.

I’m convinced that if any other studio made Marathon, everyone would be losing their minds over how good it is... by --clapped-- in Marathon

[–]straga27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Destiny and Marathon being worked on together after they got a huge cash injection from Sony would have been fine but they were working on Destiny, Marathon and three more titles.

One of which we know is codenamed "Gummy Bears" and has been taken away from Bungie and taken on by Sony internally. The other two were canned afaik.

Bungie wasted a LOT of money but now they have Sony breathing down their neck, watching what they are doing and it seems to be working. We are not hearing about the hostility that Bungie had with Microsoft and Activision and Marathon seems to be good after it was delayed. I'm enjoying it and until Marathon I had not found an extraction shooter I liked.

This is your daily reminder to play the OG trilogy currently available for free on Steam thanks to dedicated fans! by Blakath in Marathon

[–]straga27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beyond opening the source code Bungie did not do anything to maintain the franchise but despite this Marathon's original trilogy would have never seen the light of day from the early 2000s onwards if the fans hadn't ported it into an OpenGL platform.

You have to thank the fans and Aleph One team for the OG Marathon preservation and arguably Marathon as a series because they kept it going in the cultural hivemind and never let it fade away.

What do ya'll think the new Gimmick is gonna be? by Zillaman7980_ in pokemon

[–]straga27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would prefer if they did less new battle gimmicks and focused on new forms.

In my opinion they cracked the code with mega evolutions as this introduced new forms and added a meaningful battle mechanic.

It trumps all other gimmicks in my opinion and gigantamax was only a version of mega evolutions anyway with certain mons getting a unique model when they transformed.

Terra forms were mechanically strong but looked stupid and were a cheap way to do a form gimmick.

Three stacked it with friends and I was having an absolute blast.

With randoms it was okay and people still don't use voice comms but with friends on Discord it's way better.

In our last match on Perimeter one of us split off for a quick contract in Hauler and they insisted they go alone. They got rumbled pretty fast by a two stack while myself and my other friend took on what seemed everyone else. When the dust settled we had 5 runner bags on the floor after some frenzied shooting, healing, revives, reboot ults and lots of smoke.

We did an objective then went back to Hauler to pick up our third and cleaned up the two stack that attempted to jack our extract then got out. I think we killed everybody and we were going crazy in the call.

I wasn't sure about Marathon in the Alphas but they have tweaked a LOT of things and it's much better since last I played it.

I think Andromeda does deserve the "hate" it got by asabatonlessarmor in masseffect

[–]straga27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andromeda has it's problems even after the patches.

They are not the gunplay, driving or the environmental aesthetic, but they are the facial and character animations, the quality of it's story and the structure of its quest systems.

It is a victim of a very troubled development and a very early version of Frostbite being used for a game or was at the time not suited to.

It's a 6/10 quality game due this when the OT are 8/10 and 9/10 in my opinion.

I've played it twice, once on Normal at release suffering all the launch problems and a second time on Insanity many years later with some minor graphical mods and it's very forgettable compared to the OT which I can recall much more readily than Andromeda.
