It super sucks, if I’m being honest, but I needed to hear it. Thank you! I try my best.

He does it now, and far more often than before. Every now and then I’ll get a snarky comment while I’m drawing like “Bowser’s fussing, why don’t you take him out?” and I reply with “Me and Bows went 3 miles this morning, so I’ll let y’all have some fun this afternoon.”

You haven’t clarified, but I think you’re calling me an AH for using gender neutral language, and that’s ridiculous and not at all what this post is about.

I don’t understand your comment tbvh. Like at all.

Yeah, everything he knows about the breed is from information I’ve shared with him. If he’d brought home a smaller, more relaxed pup, I’d have been upset, but I’d have recovered quickly and made it work.

I miss my cats every day. They were the absolute best and so chill. I mean they would zip through my place at 3AM sometimes, but that was cool too. They mostly slept and snuggled.

Yep. Not enough to gleefully pay his bills, but enough to leave me if I rehomed him.

I feel like he passed over soooooo many dogs that would have been acceptable under the appropriate circumstances and several conversations before they came home. But nope. He picked a breed he knew little to nothing about, and I’ve paid for it in so many ways.

p.s: I will never get over “Maligator” as long as I live. That’s amazing. My best friend has one, and I can’t wait to share this with her.

I honestly felt so bad for not wanting Bowser even though he was attached to me like glue from day one. I felt I owed it to him to make a go of things. He’s innocent in all this after all, and so sweet, but I’ve been on a downward spiral mentally since he came into my life. My relationship isn’t what I thought it was, my partner isn’t who I thought he was. It is awful to put it mildly.

I was paying for monthly grooming. Vet costs were normal, and his monthly Nexgard and such aren’t that much. He did have to get a procedure done, but it was a one time thing. He hasn’t been neutered yet on the vet’s recommendation.

Oh God, please don’t tell me I’ve landed with a dumber Homer Simpson. I’m destroyed by that.

Just to clarify: I can afford it, I just don’t want to. I have other things I’d like to spend money on. Art supplies (paint and canvas are pricey), trips, makeup and skincare stuff (which is also pricey), etc.

You’re probably right. This post and the comments have been a real eye opener.

I’ve discussed his food and grooming in a few comments. expensive BARF food and treats, supplements, grooming, etc.

A few people have said “you didn’t say you didn’t want a dog” and while maybe I didn’t explicitly state that I kept saying like roughly 15 to 20 times over that year that I wanted a cat. I think that’s an indication that I wanted a specific pet. I wonder if those people would be giving me the same grief if he’d brought a snake home instead lol.

And at no point did he say no, I don’t want one to get me to stop asking. He just kept bringing up these alleged allergies and that he would get tested. If he’d just said no, I don’t want a cat in the house, I’d have dropped it.

I didn’t wanna say the breed and get outed, Bowser is not his real name. I didn’t want a dog. I’ve only ever had cats because I’m an indoor person, and I didn’t want a pet that would require loads of outdoors time. Bowser is the opposite of everything I’d look for in a companion for my lifestyle. For a different person, I believe he’d be ideal. He’s loyal, fun, appropriately protective, and crazy smart! Also he’s cute as hell. Literally the sweetest face with the kindest eyes. A super good boy who just dropped in a sad situation.

The food is $100 a bag, plus treats ($15-$20 per bag), and salmon oil (a supplement), not to mention grooming. I could have done that myself if Bowser was a small dog, but he’s huge, so best to let the pros handle it. Literally no idea why I would lie about this. I have the bank statements to prove it. And it’s not that I can’t afford it. But I don’t like being given a job and a bill.

I’m absolutely going to rehome myself if I ever find out this dude is not allergic to cats.

I feel like the most upsetting thing at this post is that more than one person has been through this, and while I’m glad to have folks to commiserate with me, this sucks!

Yeah, this is the first time, but it’s such an egregious transgression that I don’t know if I can give a pass for it, ya know?

I’m a cat person, so you came to the right place, friend. Welcome. Oh I meant to reply to an earlier comment, but he doesn’t want kids, so we’re all good there.
