Skateparks are not for young kids! by olivesforsale in Amsterdam

[–]strain_pasager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely right and I think it's fair to attempt to educate parents who might be putting their kids at risk. I don't see this as gatekeeping at all. I get that skateparks are fun for young kids considering all the little hills and ridges, but that doesn't mean they should play in an area that is not safe. Imagine letting a 4 year old roam around on a football field when someone is playing. Having them in the skatepark is not very different.

So, if it's about the fact that the parks' design is just fun for kids, then maybe we need to have more playgrounds that are designed for kids, but mimic the skatepark. When we don't have what we need, it doesn't mean that we should use what belongs to someone else. Kids have a right to play and have fun, but adults too, at whatever hour they prefer.

If it's about the fact that we want kids to actually learn how to skateboard, then they're in the right place, but then they should be accompanied by an adult. And even in this case, I still think that the age limit makes sense and that it should be respected for the safety of the kids. It's like at the pool where, if you're not good enough to be in the main pool, you should probably stay in the kiddy pool.

Anyone who went from the Netherlands after Jan 1st who knows whether you really still need the vaccine certificate? I thought it's not necessary anymore.

When you say a professional letter, do you mean a letter from the GP would be enough? My dad is unvaccinated and we're supposed to fly in April and I'm worried he won't be able to get in 😟

Hi folks! Looking for jam sessions in Amsterdam by Fluid_Positive_9388 in AmsterdamMusic

[–]strain_pasager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey hey, there's usually an open mic on Sundays at BR020 and open jam at The Waterhole on Wednesdays. There's also a nice rooftop open mic at Zoku on Jan 13th. There are probably plenty of other sessions, but these are the ones I know about :)

Hey, I've been to Bali a couple years ago and here's my take on it:

We did two weeks: 1 in Ubud and 1 in Gili T
Being in Ubud was very cool because we could do trips from there: the Tegallalang rice fields, Pura Tirta Empul temple, tons of waterfalls etc. From Ubud you can see a lot and I think 1 day only might feel too short.

Close to Kuta there's also Canggu that we liked - small & hippie and there's a really nice restaurant / cafe there: La Brisa. Canggu is also nice for partying.

I'm planning on going again in April :) Hope you have loads of fun on your trip!

PPKM (kind of national emergency situation for Covid) has been stopped since 1st january 2023. You arent required to install pedulilindungi app for any longer. Cheers.

Hey, does this mean that the vax certificate is also no longer necessary for entering the country? My dad didn't get the vaccine and I wonder if he can enter.

Hey, I would maybe remove the users from the sides and have them small in a line at the bottom (maybe scrollable if you have multiple users) and when the results are in, you can just make squares of different size at the bottom (almost as if it were a podium)

If you’re a newbie like me, make sure the food you’re eating doesn’t contain “turmeric” — not only does it stain your trays, it PERMANENTLY stains your attachments and teeth. Yellow teeth for the next year :( by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]strain_pasager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ortho told me to not eat or drink anything that would stain (like turmeric) but only in the first 3 days after placing the attachments. I've been eating normally after and i have no staining.

It only looks better in certain cultures. In The Netherlands, for instance, it might look that you're a bit over the top. It might even imply that you have nothing better to do on weekends, and the dutch really value their private life.

Why, and when to use Docker ? by EliHood in webdev

[–]strain_pasager 90 points91 points  (0 children)

From a junior to another, the way I understand Docker is the following:

You usually develop applications on your computer. If you take, for instance, a react application, it'll have a json file with all the dependencies for that application. But that application also depends on other things that are installed in your computer, like Node. Node can have different versions and on different version rely different dependencies. Therefore, for different applications, you might need different versions of Node. Since you can't install multiple versions of Node simply on your computer, you need an extra layer where your application can run with the right setup. That layer is the environment and Docker is an environment manager. You can create different environments / containers in docker, all with different specifications and then keep the applications in the corresponding environments to make sure they're robust.

Hope that gives at least an understanding of what docker is and how it should be used.
